New podcast uploaded.

2008-05-04 Thread John Moore
Hey all. New on John Moore's Audio Blog is a podcast of a Low Mass at
Trinoty Cathedral this morning. This was a very interesting service.
The power was out through most of it, so it was done by candlelight. I
was the only one with a prayer book to actually read, and it seemed
like everyone was trying to follow me. Fr. Jackson also screwed up a
few times, which was hilarious. Expect a couple of more podcasts this
week. One from the Dixie Cafe on Tuesday, Lucky's Karaoke Bar on
Friday, and my final Mass next Sunday, where I will be confirmed. That
will be a Broad Mass recording. To listen to the file, go to
http://www.gcast.com/u/coasterfreak88/main. To subscribe, the feed is
http://www.gcast.com/u/coasterfreak88/main.xml. I apologize that the
other two recording were not up. They honored the graduating seniors
and the children't choir sang, and I tried to get a recording. One
thing I have discovered about the H2. If you drop it, it stops. That
seems to be what's been happening. It's been falling off the rail a
lot, and I can't hold it. I think that that's why it doesn't record
certain things. It started recording stufff, then when it dropped, it
stopped, and all I got was an alias. Hopefull these next three will
turn out. Enjoy, and send me your feedback. Thanks for listening.

Podcast announcement and apology

2008-04-27 Thread John Moore
For those of you who subscribe to John Moore's Audio Blog, I have a
couple of announcements. First, due to an incident with the Zoom H2,
the Low Mass at Trinity Cathedral will not be podcasted today. I will
do my best to get it to you next week, as I will stay for all the
morning services. Also, the horseback riding trip has been cancelled,
so there will be no riding podcast. However, we will have another High
Mass podcast, along with the sung Compline podcast tonight. I
appreciate your cooperation, and again, I'm very sorry.

New podcast uploaded.

2008-04-27 Thread John Moore
Well, one of the podcasts I originally planned got through. The
Confirmation class from Trinity Episcopal Cathedral went to Christ
Church, our sister parish, to walk there labyrinth. This recording is
after the labyrinth. We went into the nave for there Before Monday
service, which is a service of sung Compline. Compline is nighttime
prayer. This is an absolutely beautiful service, and you will enjoy
it. We were sitting in the transcept to the right of the choir, so you
will hear a lot of echo, but that adds to the beauty of it. There is
some silence before the service begins. This service is sung by
members of the Christ Church Choir, who you will hear on Thursday
night. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
I did not mean to sound in a bad mood this afternoon, but I was
really kind of frustrated that this morning the Zoom didn't work. To
listen to the file or download it, go to
http://www.gcast.com/u/coasterfreak88/main. To subscribe, paste this
link into your podcatcher.
http://www.gcast.com/u/coasterfreak88/main.xml. Enjoy. See you
Thursday night, when we will once again podcast from Christ Church.

Desperately need help with splitter problem.

2008-01-07 Thread John Moore
Hey all. I have a splitter with four input jacks with separate volume
controls, I also have a laptop and two mono to mono patch cords. I am
trying to rig it up so that one pair of headphones can hear both the
laptop and the desktop, and the other set can only hear the desktop.
I'm in a teaching environment, and the reason I ask is because I don't
want my student to hear the notes I take, which even with the patch
cords, is the case. Can someone tell me how to do this if it can be
done? The splitter is a listening post from APH. Thanks a lot.

Re: Question about recording a cd in goldwave.

Try both ways and see which one works. I doubt you will need to put
individual tracks into separate folders; that would be ridiculous.
However, if you have to, go ahead and do that. I would say try putting
them all in one folder first, recording one file for each track.

Subject: Some questions about the Olympus WS320M

: First off, I would like to know if the Olympus has a line-in jack for
 : my Church Audio preamp.

No, there is a stereo headphone jack and a stereo mike jack Both jacks are
1/8inch stereo jacks. However, if you learn to cut the impedance on the
mike jack it can be used as an auxiliary jack. Or, you could get a cable
with the resister inside it that will cut the signal before it hits the
 recorder.

Next, I would like to know if there are any
: stores like Circuit City or WalMart that sell it.

Most of those stores do not get into the more pricey digital recorders. The
best deal I have heard is $139 at Amazon.com.

 And finally, what is
: the highest quality an Olympus can record at?

44,100 - 16 bit - 64K bps stereo WMA.. The quality is good, but it isn't
what most would consider professional quality. However, if you are fairly
good at editing audio files you can take a good recording from it into
Goldwave or Sound Forge and make it sound mighty darn good.

  Thanks so much for the
: help. Oh, and what kind of cable will I need to get to hook the preamp
 : to the recorder.

Question regarding Church Audio mikes

2006-12-29 Thread John Moore
I just received my set of Church Audio binoral mikes. I would like to
know if they work well for sound-seeing tours and live recordings.
They seem, well, kind of bigger than I thought they would be. I plan
to record a lot of things with them and my concern is that people will
see the mikes and freak out. Is there a way of camouflaging them? The
recorder will be in my pocket the whole time. I got these for $114. I
think they are the stealth ones. The site says Stereo microphones and
preamps for minidisc dat mp3. That is what I got. Thanks for the
help.

I'm not sure, whether Chris Church sells in-ear binaurals. The SP-TFB2

They're mentioned in the FAQ of www.blindcooltech.com, so Larry uses
them too. Perhaps the Church audio ones come with clips, so that one can
put them onto a t-shirt or something similar? I don't know these mics.

Did you perhaps get the standard sized ones? If so, you could ask Chris,

How accessible are the RCA recorders?

2006-12-25 Thread John Moore
I got an RCA MP3 voice recorder to use with the Chrch Audio binoral
mikes I will be getting soon. If there is anybody with an RCA recorder
out there, how easy are they to use as a blind person? Will I have to
install inaccessible software to get it to work and will I need to
memorize menus on the device? I hope my parents made the right choice.
I can't afford an Edirol or an Olympus right now. Also, what is the
best way to wear binoral mikes? Mine will clip to my collar and I want
to make them as inconspicuous as possible and somehow hide the battery
box and the preamp. Thanks for the help.

Audio problems. Please help.

2006-12-05 Thread John Moore
I am using a mixer to talk on Skype. It worked flawlessly until a few
days ago when, I accidentally screwed up the sound devices because
Skype was being slow and not letting me make phone calls. It turned
out to be the connection. Now, I have tried everything to get it back
to normal. I have it set on Windows default devices for both playback
and recording, which are the correct ones. I have two sound cards, and
before this happened, it had no problem telling what card did what.
Now, even checking the box to let Skype adjust the settings, it still
isn't working. I unchecked the box and it still isn't working. I even
checked to see if the cards were still programmed right, which they
were. Can somebody please help? Thanks.

Re: Using 2 sound cards

So that's how they did it. They edited an .ini file. I hope Jaws 5.10
uses that as I am trying to get JFW to use my C-mMedia card and
everything else onto my Sound Max. I think your best bet is to put
playback on one, then recording on the other. That is the easiest way
of putting JFW onto one and having it not interfere with recording.

It used to be possible to do it by editing a file called JFW.INI but Jaws

Does anyone know how this can be done with Jaws 7.1?

 Microsoft Officially Unveils Zune
 By Nate Mook,
 BetaNews
 September 14, 2006, 12:32 PM

As expected, Microsoft on Thursday took the wraps off its Zune
 portable media player,
set to be available in time for the holidays. Zune features a 30GB
 hard drive, wireless
connectivity and will come in three colors. But pricing has not been
 decided.
Microsoft confirmed a number of expected features about its new
 player, which is
being manufactured by Toshiba and has become one of the worst kept
 secrets in the
technology industry. Zune sports a three-inch LCD display that can be
 viewed in portrait
or landscape mode, and includes a built-in FM tuner.

The device will be available in three styles -- black, brown and
 white -- and the
interface can be customized with pictures.

But connectivity is what Microsoft hopes will set Zune apart from its
 competitors,
and give it a shot at lessening Apple's dominance in digital music.
 With built-in
802.11b/g Wi-Fi, users will be able to share selected full-length
 sample tracks,
homemade recordings, playlists and pictures with other Zune users
 wirelessly. Not
all songs will support sharing, however.

The digital music entertainment revolution is just beginning,
 remarked Zune lead
J Allard. With Zune, we are not simply delivering a portable device,
 we are introducing
a new platform that helps bring artists closer to their audiences and
 helps people
find new music and develop new social connections.

Songs shared with others can be listened to up to three times in
 three days. The
idea, of course, is that if a user likes a track their friend has
 sent them, he or
she will go purchase it from the Zune Marketplace. The Marketplace is
 Microsoft's
new online music store that will offer a la carte downloads and a
 subscription service
 called Zune Pass.

 Zune Marketplace will also support
Microsoft Points, which were developed for the Xbox Live Marketplace
and can be purchased as gift
cards at a variety of retail outlets.

Other features of Zune include the ability to import music from
 iTunes and Windows
Media Player, although songs purchased from Apple will not be
 compatible with the
player. Software upgrades will also be provided by Microsoft, which
 says the future
is filled with possibilities due to the built-in wireless capability.

Zune is slated to go on sale in the coming months, but no specific
 launch date was
announced Thursday. Also noticeably missing from the Zune unveiling
 was a price.
But Microsoft did announce three accessory packs, also without
 prices: the Zune Car
Pack, A/V Pack and Travel Pack.

Re: GoldWave - DirectX plug-in

I wonder if something's wrong with Jaws. JFW has always read my preset list.

The cursor is in a list view - list view InterVideo Audio Processor checked
 1 of 1
I hit tab and JAWS says
 list view 1 of 16
 I hit Down-Arrow and JAWS doesn't say a word.
I have tried the JAWS and Invisible cursors and still nothing.
I can tab out of it and back in again and jaws reports 2 of 16 or 3 of 16
 etc. But, that's all.
What's this second list view? Can JAWS read it?

 Thanks.

New podcast uploaded.

2006-09-03 Thread John Moore
Hey all. I have updated my podcast. The current edition of John
Moore's Audio Blog talks about a documentary filmed at the Texas
School for the Blind that I saw the trailer for. I comment on how I
feel about the project and I explain why I am going to nominate the
filmmakers for an AFB award. The podcast for September 3 will be an
interesting one. I will talk about the education of blind children. I
will talk about how I feel about how blind children in regards to how
teachers treat them, using role models from my own school life as
examples. September 4 will be a very, very controversial podcast for a
lot of people. I will talk about schools for the blind and why I think
they do not work and why they are not good in educating blind
children. It will raise a lot of eyebrows and I will probably get
hounded by a lot of people. However, I need to get this off my chest.
I have been thinking about this since graduating from TSB and I feel
it is time I talked about it. To subscribe to my podcast, put the
following URL into your podcasting client:

Or, if you just want to check out the podcast main page and download
individual files, go to:

Enjoy the podcasts.

I think that you get the file open in Windows Media, then go to the

need to know how to burn with it, so I can do it myself and help a friend

files even after I have copied them to my Documents. Reel player tries to
play the files but I only get about a 2 second burst before I am told that
Reel player needs to have an update to play the files and the little 2

 Hello everyone:
If you listen to sirius Satellite radio online you will not be able to
utilize it as of this morning if you are blind. They have instituted a
autocaptcha similar to google mail before we gained access. I have
contacted their customer service and a nice gentleman wrote up my complaint
and contacted their tech support and they will be working on a fix for the
problem. I refered them to Google mail's fix for us blind guys and gals as
well as Pay pals fix. I suggest that anyone with a sirius account contact
 them

 The number is
