Hi there,

It is a Windows Mobile phone. Yes it has a querty keyboard and the
buttons are a bit small. This might present a small problem for folks
with bigger fingers, but one can get use to it.

Hope this helps.

Is the Ozone a SmartPhone or a Windows Mobile phone? By that I mean
which Mobile Speak screen reader works with it? Also, am I correct that
the Ozone does not have a standard keypad at all but only a qwerty
keyboard? Thanks.

I also called numerous time to Verizon and it seems the Talks for the
Ozone only allows you to do email, texting and navigating through
menus, but not the Internet. At least, they say the Internet is not
mentioned, like Gary said, and so we are all assuming that you cannot
surf with the Talks version for the Verizon phone. If ATTO allowed me

to get reception where I am, I would opt for the Iphone, which
apparently is fully accessible, but alas, Verizon enables me to get
 reception.

Why do you say the Talks that Verizon sells is not the full working
 version?
What are you comparing it to? I believe it's the only Talks sold for
 the
Windows Mobile platform, so I think it is the fully working version.

Just as Code Factory has different products for the Symbian, Windows
Mobile and Pocket PC platforms, Nuance has different products for the

 Symbian
 and
now Windows Mobile platform. I think people need to be careful when
talking about Talks that they're clear to specify the Symbian versus
 Windows Mobile version.

I'm also not sure why you're saying Verizon is getting away with
 anything
selling Talks for $99. ATT sells Mobile Speak for $89, and I think
 that's
the same product you'd get from Code Factory for quite a bit more. I
suspect the price is more the result of a deal made between Nuance
 and Verizon
 or
ATT and code Factory than it is the fact that a stripped down
 version
 of
the screen reader is being sold.

 Hi Lauren,

I think the version of Talks Verizon sells for the $99.00 would work
 for
most functions, but it is not the full working version. That is
 probably
why they get away with selling it for the price they do.

Mobile Speaks does not work at this time for the Black Berry phones,
 but
 it
does work quite well with the Ozone, that is the phone I have.

You might talk to Verizon and they may let you have the good price on
 the
Ozone, I believe it was $49.00 with a 2 year contract. If you can
 afford
it, I would get the Ozone without speech, and then you can purchase
 Mobile
Speaks. I realize it is pricy, but you can transfer the software to
 other
Smart phones in the future should you decide at some point to get
 another
phone. Of course, you can only run the software on
1 phone at a time, but when you need to, the transfer is quite
simple.

Also, you get a fully functional 30-day trial before you have to
 purchase,
which allows you some time to acquire the funds. The company that I
purchased my Mobile Speaks from has a 6 or 12 month purchase plan.
 They
 do
charge a small fee for this, but it makes things a little easier if
 you
can't get the money at once.

You are able to access the Internet fine from this phone. You do
 however,
need to have good cell service in the area in which you live.
You can set the phone up to retrieve your Internet E-mail, and it is
 not
difficult to read texts or E-mails. I wouldn't use a phone as my
main source for surfing the net, but the feature is there should one
 need
 it.

 Any other questions are welcomed.

Hi Chris,

You may have a point here. I guess the reason I thought this was that
Talks seemed, when I compared the functions to Mobile Speaks, to be very
sluggish. Also there didn't seem to be the same application access. I
used Talks 2 different times for about 15 days each. And again it may
be how each software package was written, and the platform they are
written for.

I have found out recently that ATT is selling Mobile Speaks for the
$89.00 that you mentioned. I would be very curious to find out if it is
the fully functioning MSS and whether the license can be transferred to
other devices.

Have a good day.

RE: Talks question

Good morning List,

Here is the promised information.

A few months ago I started hearing talk of a Smart Phone that was fully
accessible to blind people. This phone was from Verizon and contained
the Talks program. The phone was a Motorola Q-9C and with the speech
program cost $249 with a 2 year contract. According to Verizon, the
Moto phone was the only one they offered that would do this. Of course
I was eager to have a phone that would allow me complete access to all
it had to offer. I was currently using the Env 2 and I could read and
compose text messages, but as far as simple things like setting an alarm
or leaving myself a note, and many other things, it just wouldn't
happen.

I purchased the phone and found it to work fairly well, but it had a few
issues. It came with Pocket Word that wasn't accessible with the Talks
program. This left me a bit frustrated because I wanted full use of all
the features of this phone, and so I began to inquire of other types of
phones and different speech programs. Through my searching, I
discovered that the Talks program Verizon sells and on the Moto phone
was not the fully functioning version of the program.

I was able to return the Moto Q to Verizon for a full refund after
hearing of a program called: Mobile Speaks. This program can be used
on Smart Phones running Windows Mobile along with Pocket PC's. It works
with several different service providers and costs about $300.00. I was
able to purchase the Moto Q-9C from an individual and used the Mobile
Speaks program for a 30-day trial to make sure I liked all it had to
offer. This program works great, and I'm able to use features on a
different new phone I've purchased which is called the Ozone from
Verizon. I kept the Moto to use as a spare, but I wanted a brand-new
phone.

Since all of this, I found out that the Talks program, like Mobile
Speaks is a fully functioning program, but doesn't work with as many
smart phones and with as many carriers.

I might also point out that when you purchase a Smart Phone from Verizon
that has come out after November of last year, that you must have a Data
package with your current plan. A Data package gives you access to the
Internet and E-mail from your phone. This is not meant for everyone,
but if you think there might be a reason for this function, then a
Windows Mobile device running a speech program might be what you need.

If anyone has any questions, they can keep the thread going on this list
or contact me off list at:

tim.mar...@state.nm.us

Here is the link to where you can get a trial of the Mobile Speaks
software.

http://www.codefactory.es

To get a good detailed tutorial on installing and using this program,
also a place to purchase once you've used the trial of Mobile Speaks:

Hope all this helps.

Sincerely,
Tim Martin

  Hi,

It depends on the version of talks.

if the ozone is a series two handset then you might have some

Having said this talks does allow for email, texting and internet

Are you buying talks for the phone or are they selling you the ozone

RE: Has anyone used songselect.com?

2009-06-22 Thread Martin, Tim A., NMDOT
Hi there,

I used to use CCLI when it was loaded on ones computer. Haven't used
the web version.

Are you the one that is going to distribute the chord sheets and set up
the media projecting? If so, I think it can get a bit complicated for
you...But not to say it is impossible! This would depend on your level
of progress with computer programs and speech software.

As far as playing keyboard in church, most worship music is quite easy
to learn. Unlike the hymns, most songs now a days have just a few
chords and if you have an ear for music, should be easy for you.

I lead worship in my church and we do a great amount of the modern
worship songs, and I don't have any problem with them. I play guitar
and piano depending on the song. I have to give chord charts to the
rest of the musicians, but I memorize both words and chord progressions.

Right now I'm leading the faster choruses from the drums and the worship
choruses from either keyboard or acoustic guitar.

If you can't access the chords and would like my help on anything,
please don't hesitate to contact me off list.

RE: sonar

Jed,

Chris is correct. Cake Talking is supposed to work great with Sonar.

I am a WE user and have had quite a bit of experience with the program.

I don't know the price of JAWS or Cake Talking, but you can get Sonar
from Musicians Friend for a good price.

RE: World's best ear-bud headphones?

2009-04-27 Thread Martin, Tim A., NMDOT
Hi there,

I have these same Shure ear-buds and they are great. I also have some
good Sony's which work great.

Mainly what you want are buds that fit at the entrance of the ear canal
to get the best bass response, and this will cut out external noise.

My Sony's cost me about $60 and the Shure's were about $120. Don't
settle for low priced ones, because the quality won't be very good, and
most folks can tell the difference.

Hope this helps.

Hi listers,

I just downloaded a couple of audio books, and unfortunately, the person
who converted these books didn't convert the files into a single file
for each cd, but left all the tracks converted as individual tracks. All
I want to do is to take these files, and place them in their proper
order, and making one mp3 file for each cd.

As of a few minutes ago, I took a look at the batch processing options
in Goldwave, but can find no one step way to select all these files, and
consolidate all these mp3 files into one file. Is there a way to do
this, or must I copy each file, one after the other, adding them to the
last mp3 file created in a manual fashion. Surely there has to be an
easier way to do this. If some one can instruct me in the best way to go
about what it is I am trying to do, I would really appreciate the help.

The reason I would like to accomplish this particular task, is to make
it easier to listen to these files on my Victor Stream, rather than the
Victor classic, because fast forwarding, and rewind are so much better
on the stream.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Larry

RE: R09HR, Zoom H2, or Zoom H4?

2009-01-07 Thread Martin, Tim A., NMDOT
Hi Brad,

The Sony is usable as far as simple operation. You will need someone to
help you get the date and time set when you first turn on the machine.
Once this is done, you should be able to record and playback with ease.
As far as the menus, it is like any non-talking machine, takes quite a
lot of memorizing. It has both an input and output volume knob, which
is quite nice. I just received mine Saturday, and had my 10 year old
help me with setting date and time. He also told me the name of each
button and jac. Besides having great recording quality, the moment you
plug it in to the USB on the computer, you have access to all of the
folders.

Any more questions, let me know.

Well, I own the Zoom H2, and can' complain.

The Zoom isn't really that accessible, although Neal Ewers has a rather
valuable tutorial up at blindcooltech about it.
However, if you really want to go for the quality option, I would
recommend the Sony PCM D50 (not included in your list, quite expensive,
but well worth every cent).

I went to the Try It site for Replay converter at
http://www.replay-converter.com/replay-converter/demo.php, and it said:

Try Replay Converter before you buy! Download Replay Converter right
now, and use all the program features. This demo is fully functional,
except for a watermark added to videos, and audio conversions are
limited to 90 seconds. Version 3 will burn DVD's, has faster conversions
than version 2, and more.

You can still download version 2.8, but I don't think it's free. I think
it has a trial with the same kind of limitations. It did when I
downloaded it before 3.1 came out. Therefore, I don't think it's free,
but you can definitely try it out.

I can confirm that you can do this with Replay Converter 3.12 from
Applian Technologies. I am not sure if it is out to the public this
version. When the new Replay AV 8 is released it will include Replay 3

 also.

The Replay Converter 3 interface is not quirky in my opinion. When you

land on convert audio button just arrow down 2 times and press your
spacebar then tab one time for the available options. Works very well
here. If you have any further questions please ask them

RE: skype problem

2008-09-26 Thread Martin, Tim A., NMDOT
Hi Joe,

You will need to have the mic and anything else you want to view in
volume control selected in the playback area of volume control.

When you are in volume control, hit the Alt key and use your arrow up
key to go to properties.

After selecting properties, tab over a couple times and you will have a
list of items you can choose from.

The items checked are what will show up under playback in volume
control.

You will need to check the mic in, then tab to OK, and see if it is
there.

You can do the same for recording.

You would go to properties and hit enter.

Then tab once where you will hear playback. You can hit down arrow
and you should hear record.

If you tab again, you will hear a list of items, some checked, and some
not checked, but these are in the recording area of volume control.

Hope this helps.

Trying to help,
Tim

Where did you get the Xitle and how much did it cost? Does it just do

Thanks much,

I just bought the 4 gb model of this player for my wife. All I had to
do was plug it in and wait for the thing to be recognised. When it's
recognised, and you open the drive in explorer, you'll find a folder
called storage or something like that. Open that folder and you'll
find Music, Recordings, Pictures, etc. Open the one you want and then
copy and past contents into the folder.

I haven't tried adding things on an external memory card though. Does
it use, standard sd or mini or micro sd cards?

The advantage of using MP3GAIN over programs such as Sound Forge and
Goldwave is that the changes MP3Gain makes are completely lossless.
There is no quality lost in the change because the program adjusts the
mp3 file directly, without decoding and re-encoding.

It is free and you can download it from
http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net

Note that it won't normalise your wave files.

Hello,
Don't own sound fordge but there is a program named MP3gain that does
exactly what you want. You can point it to a folder of mp3's and it
will normalize them all.

I'm not sure about sound forge, but in gold wave, when you do a batch

probably
a way to normalize it, too. Not sure about sound forge- does it have a

 something similar.

Hope that helps, sorry I don't have sound forge (too expensive for me

RE: Digital Recorders Revisited

2008-05-16 Thread Martin, Tim A., NMDOT
Hi Don,

This is Tim. Does the recorder you wrote about have a power adaptor
jack where you can run it without having to use batteries?

Also, is it possible to move the recorded files to a PC via the USB? It
sounds like a good recorder. I read the specs on the 50 along with the
30, and the main differences seem to be memory...256 mb over 1 gb.

I've attached some information on the 30 if anyone wants to read up on
it...See below.

This is a copy from the sight where I found the information. Make sure
and read the entire document.
