burning data files on to dvd

2011-02-16 Thread brian parker
Hi, i have been trying to put some data files on to dvd blanks. on my
old computer using, nero7, i never had any trouble. now however, i am
having plenty. i have tried using express burn, and whe windows
sseven system, with the same result. it tells me, that there errors
in some files, and won't burn them. unfortuanately, by the time that
message comes up, the disc is ruined. the files involved are all
files i have listened to, without being aware that there was anything
wrong with them. once it said, that the errors were non critical, but
no burn took place. i have today ruined three discs, as if i put any
of them in i am informed that, they are not rewritable discs, and are
not empty. does anyone know of any programme that can check files, to
see if they are error free. brian.

soundforge question

2010-10-03 Thread brian parker
Hi list, i am using soundforge 7 with windows 7 and wineyes 72.
wineyes users who use soundforge and wineyes know, after a recording
is made, if it is played for a few seconds, and stopped, going to the
bottom of the screen with the mouse pad, useful information can be
got, such as to where one is in a file, and above that, rate of the
recording like, negative 3, or whatever. i was using this
successfully, until yesterday. now, when i go to the bottom of the
screen with the mousepad, and come up one movement, i get the start
button, and can't get the usual information. i have tried focus
window, user window, and active window. as i haven't made any
changes, i can't work out what has happened. has anyone else run in
to this problem, and what did you do about it. any help would
be appreciated. brian.

2010-01-29 Thread brian parker
Hi, i have just bought a machine called, ion tape to pc. it is
supposed to copy cassettes in to my computer and change the input in
to mp3. it uses software called, ezconverter and itunes. so far i
have got nowhere. firstly, i am using wineyes, and can't get into the
menu for ezconverter. so, i have to have sighted assistance to even
reach record, in ezconverter as i have no vision at all. also,
although i have connected the ion through its USD port, i can't even
hear any music coming through. in the past, i have used a
straightforward cassette recorder, and soundforge. if i could only
hear something coming from the ion machine, i would be happy to make
my own mp3 or whatever with soundforge. if anyone is using this
device, or the ezconverter and itunes soft ware who could help, i
would be glad to hear from you. brian.

for cdex users

2009-02-07 Thread brian parker
Hi list, has anyone run in to this problem. in cdex151, if one wishes
to, one can change ogg files in to mp3. in cdex160, and cdex170, the
same facility seems to be available, but after changing the ogg file
to mp3, it will give a value in bytes, and if opened in foobar, will
give a value of lenhth in minutes. but, although it will play if done
in cdex151, it won't play if done in cdex160 or cdex170. has anyone
found a way round this. cdex170 is much quicker at ripping discs than
cdex151 or cdex160, so for me it is preferable. if anyone is
wondering why i would wisht to change ogg to mp3, i don't wish to for
myself, but for a friend who wants mp3. brian.

re soundforge

2008-02-02 Thread brian parker
hi list, i am using soundforge seven. lately, i have come across a
rather odd result in my recordings. i am using a a p h to record two
tracks at once in soundforge. i then have to reverse one of them to
save them. the problem is, that when i am feeding the a p h in to
soundforge, and have it set for sterio, i can hear the tracks going
in to separate speakers. when i want to save the tracks, i press tab,
but instead of getting one track, i get both tracks coming out of one
speaker. if i press tab again, i get both tracks coming out of the
other speaker. i can't work out what is the trouble. obviously, it
isn't my lead, or i wouldn't hear the two tracks coming out of the
speakers, one in to the left hand speaker and the other track in to
the right speaker. if anyone has ever had this trouble, perhaps you
found out the problem. i have been using this method of recording
from the a p h for some time, ever since someone told me how to
separate the tracks, using it satisfactorily. it is only lately, that
i have run in to trouble. brian.

re can't record in soundforge

2007-08-09 Thread brian parker
Hi, i don't know whether you are recording from a recorder input and
using line-in, or from a radio stream and are using stereo-mix. it is
possible that which you were using, may have come unchecked if you
have been using some other application such as skype. whenever i use
skype, i have to check the line-in or stereo mix box, depending on
what i wish to record. go to start, enter run programme, key in
sndvol32.exe /r.and press enter.

question about cdex

2007-08-02 Thread brian parker
Hi list, i am using cdex160. if i convert an mp3 file to ogg, all is
well. but, if i convert an ogg file to mp3, although the convertion
takes place,if i then open the mp3 file in foobar, it won't play.
foobar wil give all the details of the file, the length and the rates
that are the attributes of the file.
also, if i use the right arrow to move along the file as i would if i
was listening to it, and wanted to jump ahead, the position reading
changes. by the way, i am still using the beta version of cdex 160.
tthanks, brian.

re mp3 software

2007-05-18 Thread brian parker
Hi rick, i use foobar. if you open a file in foobar, play it for some
time, then close it down, and then open it again, by activiating
foobar, it will take you ba ck to the file were playing, and to the
spot where you were listening. i can't remember where i got it, but i
presume you could find it through google. if not, i could send it to
you direct by attachment. let me know how you get on. if you have any
trouble, call me direct. brian.

re mp3gain

2006-03-11 Thread brian parker
Hi Kevin, thanks, i found your instructions quite easy to follow, as i only
want to bring to the same level, files in a chosen folder. is there any
circumstances, when it won't work with some mp3files. i tried to do a test
with two files, which were 01.mp3 and 03.mp3, and it didn't work too well.
also, is there anyway of telling when it has finished. on the site, there
was a message that says that it should give a beep. i haven't found out how
to bring this alive. mike, i got my version from mp3gain.sourceforge.net brian.

re soungforge7

2005-08-03 Thread brian parker
Hi list, those of you who use soundforge, know that one uses control r to
bring up the sound record box. then, alt r, to start the recording. since
my computer crashed, had to be repaired, and i had to re-install
soundforge, this r, from alt r, comes out so loud when i start the
sounndforge file running, that it practically blasts me out of the room. of
course, i delete it anyway, as i don't want it on the final recording when
i save it. does anyone know, where in the record volumes i can lower the
volume of this letter r, without of lowering the input of whatever i am
recording. brian.

re creative muvo

2004-11-11 Thread brian parker
Hi list, I need a good samaritan. I have just bought a creative mp3 player,
but so far, have failed to transfer any files in to it. I have put in the
software, and my computer recognises it as a drive, but does not recognise
that there is a mp3 file on it, which there is. it comes with a demo file,
and i can play this if i use the player not plugged in to my computer. this
player is the 128 megabyte player. the copy files instructions are written
for a sighted person, and are mouse oriented using drag and drop. I tried
first to do the transfer through the clipboard, and it didn't work. i
received an error message, saying the the player couldn't find the
specified file, although it named the file concerned. it asked that i
checked the path and name of the file. I found this rather strange, as i
hadn't typed in the name of the file, so how did it know what file it
couldn't find. I then tried to use the drag and drop method, which can be
done with wineyes, which is my screen reader. i got the same result. i then
made a drag and drop transfer between two of my other drives, just to make
sure that i had the method correct. i did four transfers, and they worked
perfectly. If anyone out there is familiar with this particular player, i
would be glad of his help.
My son, who has the advantage of being able to see, couldn't transfer any
files to it either. if anyone can help please do. i am using windows xp.
brian.

the player is removed from the u s b port, one is instructed not to put it
back in to the case holding the battery with the player switched on.
unfortunately, while it is plugged in to the computer, there seems to be no
way of turning it off, either by closing the drive which it has now become,
or by pressing the off button on the player. so, i need to no whether just
unplugging it, in fact puts it in to the off mode. Brian.

HI, and thanks. i can't find anything in nero menus for doing a format,
only erase disc, which i have tried. and i don't know what

merely using the clipboard and pasting. then when the temporary files were
set up, entering file menu and entering on write these files. where in
nero, does it let one format a disc. according to properties, my rewrite

rewrite problem

2004-08-06 Thread brian parker
Hi list, i have deep trouble. i can't get any of my rewrite cds to work. i
can't even open them. i have been trying to use nero, and it was only
yesterday, that i got a message saying, that i was making a transfer in a
format that some computers would not be able to read. the files i was
transferring were mp3 files. i can only assume, that i must have used some
similar format, and ruined all five of the rewrite discs i have. does
anyone know how i can put these discs right. i don't know whether it is
possible to format a disc or not, it may be that i will have to discard
these discs. but until i find what ruined them in the first place, i
daren't get some new ones. I don't even know whether it was my careless use
of nero that did the damage. any help would be gratefully accepted. Brian.

hiss while recording

2004-06-03 Thread brian parker
Hi list, a couple of days ago, I raised a query on this list,
because I couldn't any longer record from radio streams. Well, the answers
I got helped me to solve that problem, so thanks to mike mote and others. I
now have another problem regarding noise. before i had my trouble recording
streaming, i could make pretty good recordings from either radio, or from
tape. Now, i can't make recordings from either, without getting a lot of
hiss. i have mucked about with the volumes in both
sndvol32.exe and sndvol32.exe /r
but can't get rid of the trouble. this isn't a case of noise reduction
afterwards, but how to stop the hiss getting in to the recording in the
first place. any help would be appreciated. Brian.
