I like the accessable page and It is so much easier to use than the main page. Original message: As far as I can tell, the so-called accessible site is just a page that was created as a work-around for the 3 items with the new submenus at the top of the regular home page, namely, your greeting, Library, and Shop Audible. The accessible page displays the links that you would find on these submenus if they worked consistently with your screen reader. Unfortunately, these submenus do not work consistently with a screen reader even when you follow the spoken instructions. This is why it is necessary to use the accessible page. If you want to use all of the features of Audible though, you will need to use both the regular home page and the accessible page, whichever works best in a particular situation. Also, be aware that on the regular home page, the My Library link is now shortened to Library; on some other Audible pages, it is still displayed as My Library. The only problems I've had with downloading books are slower download speeds and quite a few stops and restarts. Consequently (and maybe Tapin didn't do this) but somehow, since I have upgraded, those files have disappeared! So my suggestion would be this: if you plan to upgrade to the latest version of Tapin Radio (if you have any files that you have recorded that you still have in the Record folder, better move them or they may be gone once you upgrade! BTW-I see they've moved the record folder back to the file menu, as opposed to the record menu as it was before. You do get a free trial for 7 days, I think. Then you have to subscribe weather it is online or getting a radio and such. I had Sirius for a few years until we moved into a place where there was no signal. Now, We will have to wait for a place where we can have a signal and hopefully some day the folks at Sirius/XM. will pull there head out of there behinds and make the online site accessible again. It reall;y ticked me off when the ideots made the service unaccessable. Hi. You can't convert .RAR files to MP3. .RAR files are a kind of digital envelope. It is a compression tool for multiple file types. If you have say 100 files you want to send to a friend, some might be WAVE, some mp3, others might be .AVI or Flac etc. The point is you can compress all these files into one zipped file and in the process it compresses the files to a smaller over all size making it easier and more convenient to upload. To compress and then extract the files you need a programme called either .zip or 7zip or winrar. Windows XP has a built in basic compression tool as does windows 7. Didn't you say you weren't a jaws user, or am I getting you confused with someone else? lol One obvious improvement though is, as I said before, that now the filenames will speak. It is faster to tab through the dialogues, but I'm not sure how to fix this in window-eyes. I am going to post to the gwmicro-info list to see if people have suggestions for this one so I can explain it to the developer of goldwave. Feel free to correct me on any of this, and even tell me if I'm flatout wrong. I just want to help make this program the most accessible sound editor out there because it has been on that path for some time now. This Chris guy also seems to have his heart in the right place as far as listening to suggestions from me about accessability. And I don't have to be the only mediator either, it would be nice to have more people email him on the accessability front. apologies for the longwinded message, but I wanted to spell out what I thought were the primary concerns. I'd rather give too much info than not enough. Dave C. Bahr On 12/31/2011 2:21 AM, JM Casey wrote: Hey Dave. As far as I know much of this functionality was due more or less directly to the scripts. Maybe I am wrong? It seems to me that GoldWave's developers have done a pretty ace job of making their software screenreader-friendly up until now. However certain elements like the reading of time intervalss, filenames, selection areas, etc, simply don't speak anymore. If I can grab GW 5.57 and test it without scripts, I will do so. But it seems that some blind users are having success with this? Are they simply used to not having this information read for them, though it would seem fairly essential and necessary? I don't know. If nobody's around to update them anymore and the layout changes, there goes that functionality. Perhaps someone else can take over? It seems to me that whatever modifications are needed ought to be pretty simple, but I lack the requisite knowledge myself (always the excuse isn't it?) I should add that there's still some voice feedbackrecord, play etc buttons still speak and the active control read command works along with some of the others not native to GW (at least I don't think they are). At any rate, I used to get plenty of feedback messages from the programme, which would speak the name of the file that was open if I, for example, alt-tabbed over to the goldwave window, or used alt-f6 to switch between files. I could also get JAWS to speak the name of the file by hitting alt-shift-o, the file format, cursor position, markers, etc. I noticed I was having some problems with the scripts, which would seem to hang the programme whenever I hit insert-h or used some other commands. So, I searched around and realised I wasn't using the most up-to-date version. The laatest I found was 1.60. Installed these, and I'm still getting very little voice feedback, though there doesn't seem to be any more hanging issue. Everything in the programme seems to work fine, but if I select a piece of sound from a file, and copy it to the clipboard, jaws will say nothing selected. This is simply untrue as I've tested and know for a fact that a selection has happened, but for some reason JAWS and/or scripts are just not tracking things correctly. None of the information keys seem to work; I can't even get the time of the current file, and using alt-shift-o to speak the current open filename only results in the word file being read. I can see the information is there on the screen using the jaws cursor, but I don't want to have to do this every time. It's particularly annoying when moving between files because I don't always know which one is open. I've turned off visual metres, and all other elements that I think might be getting in the way of proper functionality. What's going on here? Has the layout with GoldWave 5.61 changed so much that JAWS simply can't find the relevant information anymore to read? Can I adjust anything to make it work? Do I have to regress back to GW 5.57 if I want my status read? I realise that the scripts are not really essential but I got used to being able to quickly check things like open file status, elapsed time, marker positions, etc, and editing will take a whole lot longer and involve more guesswork if I can't do this like I used to. I keep thinking I'm missing some obvious setting. Any ideas at all? I'm using jaws 11 by the way, which worked fine with v5.57 and even the older scripts. Thanks. The programme itself is probably not to blame; it seems to me they've gone above and beyond to make the software accessible. However, we simply got used to the functionality of the scripts. Just seems that any keystroke to do with time selection or file information no longer reads the required information. I bet those Olympus recorders cost an arm and a leg and a few fingers. LOL. All jokes aside, they do cost quite a bit of money and it is hard for someone who is on a limited income to purchase one. Hi! My favourite subject smile, I've been down that road before. I use Fire Field recorder though it hasn't been updated for quite some time. Now here's where things become a little tricky. If you're using Fire Field Recorder for quality recordings you'll want some external microphones and inputs, that's fine! as those devices exist but when all boiled down, its going to cost you a little money, not expensive mind but a little money. If I had my time over again, I would not have bothered buying the extra attachments for my IOS device, they're nice sure! but for nearly the same amount of money I could have bought a portable recorder which does far more than the IOS device I had was capable of doing, I'm talking of course of the Zoom H1 portable recorder. No, it doesn't have talking this or talking that, no it doesn't have bells and whistles to write home to Mum about but it is! a very high quality and easy to use recorder which handles MP3 and Wave format, encoding quality for MP3 can be set along with sampling and bit rate for Wave. I wrote to an audio engineer friend of mine - who also happens to be totally blind - about the problem and he suggested that I use Stand-alone links that actually launch a player of choice for my radio streams and he gave me what appears to be a good site full of these links. The pages at http://www.mikesradioworld.com are full of Stand-alone links to radio streams from all over the world and I'm sure this is only 1 of dozens of sites that contain vast collections. Some of the combo boxes were hard to read the headers from, but maybe they don't have to have headers and are context sensative. So the short answer is, no I haven't had time to play with it. Seems pretty usable though from the brief overview I gave it the other day. If you're a window-eyes user, it's important to reclass the custom controls in the meter window of the control properties so that they are buttons, saves you a keystroke or two. Wiring up is simple enough, each of the speakers and control panel plug into sockets via cables on the sub-woofer, it appears that all the plugs are different so their's no chance of plugging the wrong speaker into the wrong socket, plugging the control panel into one of the speaker sockets etc. So upon turning the system on I heard sweet sweet sound so time to control the system with the control panel to hear just what the system offered my ears. The panel has 3 buttons and a rotary know, when this is turned as a volume knob it increases or decreases the volume and here's where things become interesting. If you turn the knob slightly then volume increases or decreases gradually, turn the knob a little more then the rate of volume adjustment increases so be prepared for a few shocks. 1 button on the panel changes the knob for volume adjustment to bass adjustment, another changes from volume to treble adjustment and the small button in the middle of the panel turns the system on and off - there's a main power switch on the back of the sub-woofer which turns everything off. If there are any scripts, that would be awsem. Hello Randy and Joe, Spotify is not that accessible, as Joe rightly said, you can type in what you want and then listen to things but you can't hear the search results, however I did find that if you press the read line or title bar hotkey, it will read out the song you are listening to. Also, you can join Spotify without being invited, and the free service allows you to listen to songs only 5 times and there is a time limit. They only recently changed their free service. Spotify unlimited, which allows you to listen to limitless songs without adds costs £4.99. I think an ap could be written for Window-Eyes, and I'm not sure if there are scripts for Jaws available for it. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Joe Giovanelli Sent: 20 October 2011 15:43 To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Subject: Re: How accessible is spotify? Hello, Spottify is a service by which you can listen to an almost limitless selection of songs in a wide range of genras. As far as I could tell, there's no ability to listen to radio stations. You can only join Spotify if someone who is already a member sends you an invitation. When you are accepted, there are two levels of entry. The free one gives you access to everything but there are ads. I don't remember what the fee is but it's worth it if you need to access lots of songs. You are given an edit box in which you place your search term. The problem for me was that, having done that, I couldn't read the search results. It appears to me that the list generated from the search is printed in a non ASCII form. I hope someone finds a way around the access issue because it's a great service. No, you cannot download; you'd have to record the song. The best place to get this cd and dvd burning program is through www.ninite.com I suggest that you not go to the program through the autostart when you put a blank disc in the drive but start it from the desktop. When starting from the desktop you will have a number of buttons you can tab through. Just enter on the one that describes what you want to create. By default the explorer panel is checked in the view menu. I recommend going into the view menu and entering on explorer view to uncheck it. Now there are just two areas you can tab between. One is the list of files to burn and the other tells you how much space is left on the disc. If you hear minus that means there is too much to fit on the disc. to delete a file from the list of files to burn, just arrow to the file and hit the delete key.In JAWS this is the decimal point on the numpad. To add files you want to burn hit control + j. To add folders you want to burn hit control + k. With both of these you will end up with a dialog that is like the Windows dialogs. Once you are ready to burn the disc hit control + b. The burn tab will come up. Tab through the options and select what you want. If you want no space between tracks hit alt + o. If you want space between tracks hit alt + s. Tab to the burn disc button and hit enter. You will hear a cancel button but this is while it is configuring the files to be burned. So just sit still and wait for it to work. Next it will bring up a page where you can see how long it has taken and will take to burn the disc. When it is through it will bring up a page that tells you it was successful. It willl bring up an OK button so enter on it. On the next page tab to the close button and hit enter. You are now in the original part of the program. If you want to burn a disc of other material hit alt + e then c to clear the list of files to burn. It willl ask if you are sure you want to clear all the files. If you do then enter on yes. I use CDEX for this purpose, and I think that was the program we used when I was on the phone with you. You'll run into the same problem that you had before, if it won't recognize the cd info. It will make a folder called no artist, with a folder called no title inside of it, if you set it up this way. Then you'll need to rename the folders, but the ID3 tags won't be filled in properly, though you could tab through and fill in the artist and title info before you hit f9 to extract into mp3. F8 extracts to .wav, by the way.. If you take the time to do the filling in of the info before extracting, then the folders that are created will be relevant. If you still use Windows 2000/XP and are aware of any issues in this beta, please report them before development shifts away from those versions of Windows. This will be the last beta update. The next update will be a stable version. New Features · Playback/Recording This version of GoldWave contains significant changes to the playback and recording code. By default, the new Windows Vista/7 Core Audio/WASAPI is used. Previous versions of GoldWave used DirectX (DirectSound) for all audio input and output. However DirectX has been the source of many problems and has been deprecated on Windows Vista/7 where it no longer provides direct access to the audio hardware. DirectSound support is still included as an option in GoldWave and is used by default for Windows 2000/XP. · Media Foundation This version of GoldWave uses the new Media Foundation in Windows 7 to access system decoders to handle a wider range of audio and video files. Previous versions of GoldWave used DirectShow to access system decoders. That functionality has not been removed but it is used only if Media Foundation is unable to open a file or on older versions of Windows that do no have Media Foundation. · iTunes M4A GoldWave can now open and save iTunes M4A files through Media Foundation on Windows 7. Currently there appears to be a flaw in the way Media Foundation handles cover art and copyright metadata. Although cover art can be read from a file, any attempt to write cover art results in all metadata being wiped from the file. To avoid this problem, the only metadata GoldWave writes is text. Cover art cannot be saved in an M4A file for now. · Covert Art Cover art is shown under File | Information. Click on the image to replace the artwork with another image. · Open URL A new File | Open URL command has been added to open a file directly from a website using Media Foundation on Window 7. · Window Layering In previous versions of GoldWave, windows and dialogs could appear on top of other applications. Changes have been made to avoid that. However further testing is needed to ensure that windows and dialogs appear correctly on top of GoldWave's Main window and not behind it, which would make the program appear frozen. · VST The first beta version of the VST plug-in is included. However, there appear to be numerous stability issues with VST plug-ins. Many plug-ins violate the VST specification in a variety of ways and the specification itself has issues. Changes in v5.63 · Enhanced Batch Processing window · Comments in Batch Processing process list · One click recording (Create new file option) · Fixes (see WhatsNew.txt) Changes in v5.62 · Improved ID3 v2.2 tag support (reading only) · Enhanced /new command line parameter · Enhanced CD title prefix option · Improved metadata extraction from iTunes/M4A files · New key codes for media/browser buttons · Fixes (see WhatsNew.txt) Changes in v5.61 · Improved ID3 v2.4 tag support (reading only) · Volume controls in Stereo Center effect · Stricter control of when Open URL command is available · Device Shared mode move to Quality list · Fixes (see WhatsNew.txt) What Needs Testing · USB microphones (mono and stereo) · Very long file/path names (longer than 255 characters). · Batch Processing comments and new layout · Reading of ID3 v2.2, v2.3, v2.4 tags. · Reading of metadata in iTunes and other MPEG4 audio files. · Playback and Recording Make sure you have the latest sound driver from the manufacturer! Using the Update Driver button in Windows is not a reliable way to get the latest driver. If you don't know how to obtain and install the latest driver, please do not install the beta. · M4A open and save Cover art and copyright metadata will not be supported until Microsoft fixes Media Foundation or at least provides sufficient documentation to explain how to write cover art to a new file without destroying

Re: mp4 files
Is audacity free, or do I have to pay for it? Does winamp play MP4 files and does Gold Wave play them as well? Also, how would I convert MP4 files to MP3? I can't check right at the moment, but i'm pretty sure the latest version of Audacity can handle mp4 files. You might have to download an extra decoder plugin, but that should be readily available. - Original Message - From: kim kelly kim...@cableone.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, June 12, 2011 2:49 PM Subject: Re: mp4 files My cell phone does the same thing.
