Re: How Does 20th Century Radio Upscale their OTR Shows?

In Sound Forge which I use, the stereoize effect is called psuedo stereo,
because it spreads the sound out and puts some milliseconds delay between the
left and right channels.

Re: How Does 20th Century Radio Upscale their OTR Shows?

2017-05-15 Thread Matthew Bullis
Although the effect sounds great initially, it's really not good to do this to
files. Most I've heard like this actually introduce a fraction of a second
delay between channels to achieve this effect. If you get a file like this and
want to fix it, you can just pan one channel to the center while muting the
other. I've heard the term stereoize to describe what you're hearing, and I try
to fix this whenever I come across a file like this. If you simply convert one
of these files to mono without muting one of the channels, then the file has a
weird sound quality to it because of the channel delay being pressed into one
channel.

I'm noticing a few of the stations (20th Century Radio for instance) seem to be

OTR shows were recorded in momo.

How are they able to get low quality momo files to sound this good?

Would love to know their secret for I have a few mystery Old Time Radio shows

Any ideas?

2016-12-01 Thread Matthew Chao
Hi, Andy. First, you don't meed a mic, as the cameras have built-in
ones, quite nice, in fact. The Hero5 series actually record in stereo.

GoPro makes attachments for wrists, arms and legs. Additionally,
there's a chest harness that you can wear. Minor problem is that the
GoPro's mics are so sentitive that you'll hear a lot of thumping when
walking - that's the sound of your feet as you plod along.

So, long story short: If you're going to get a GoPro, get the Hero5
Session. Hope this all helps.--Matt & Quill.

I accept that you were saying about the Gopro hero 5. I can find 2
models the one you suggest and a larger model, more expensive called
the Gopro Hero 5 black.

So I'd probably go with your suggestion, but which of the Hero 5 range?

Another complication is about fitments and attachments. I'd probably
need sighted assistence to look at these pages for I don't really
understand what they are, apart from a gun grip or extension pole.
I'd like something to attach it to my upper chest and perhaps a
similar attachment for my dog, for a dog's eye view of training.

The final difficulty is that I notice that the 5 has an external
mini-usb for connecting a 3D binaural microphone set up. I'd much
rather this was a quarter inch socket.

So it looks like I have quite a lot of work to do before I actually
make my purchase. But it will be the Hero 5 right enough.

Thanks again for your help.

Very best wishes.

Andy.

Hi, Andy. I had a GoPro Hero4 Silver, and yes, a blind person can
use it. However, you should have a sighted person put it into video
mode before you leave for training. You use the top button to start
the video, and to stop it. When you stop the video, you get three
beeps to know that that's what happened.

The above said, however, a GoPro Hero5 would be better, as it has
voice control. For example, you can say "GoPro start video" and
"GoPro stop recording". Suggest you buy the Hero5 Session for $299.
Hope this helps.--Matt & Quill.

I have installed it and had a look around. It indeed does support Discogs, so
that's great. One thing I can't seem to edit is the file name format. I want it
to have track number and title in the file name, not track number, artist, and
title. Although I was able to delete the data, once I did that, I couldn't find
a done or ok button and the Jaws cursor didn't reveal anything. When I reopened
the settings screen, it was at its default.

those extra vinyl perks. I've been a Sound Forge user for fifteen years, and if
this Vinyl Studio can detect the pauses between songs and pull track data from

Re: three speed turntable

2015-05-12 Thread Matthew Bullis
I don't remember the model that I bought at the Guitar Center, but it's a
Stanton. I needed to be sure that it would play 78s if I spent the extra money
to get the parts for a 78 stylus, so I asked that question at the store. We
tested this, and on the model I found, you press the 33 and 45 buttons at the
same time, and it swings up to 78rpm. Once I got that figured out, I then had
to get the 78 playing capability. The clerk looked up the particular needle I'd
need to get, and I bought an extra headshell so I could unscrew the one for 33
and put in the one for playing 78s. The thing is that you need to get the three
pieces separately. The needle fits onto the mounting bracket with the wires,
and that part gets wired into the headshell. I needed sighted help with this
project. Replacing the needle itself isn't a problem, since that just slides
off and then on again. I hope this helps. If you're not in close proximity to a
helpful store like Guitar Center, Stanton were very helpful over the phone with
their descriptions. Oh also, if you have a patch cord to run audio to your
computer, and you intend to transfer things digitally, you don't need to get a
USB model. I find that USB carries a lot of noise over its wire, so using the
standard mixer works fine if you've already got a mixer setup.

Re: beginners help with youtube?

2014-12-27 Thread Matthew Bullis
So a few things here: You can Google for the accessible alternative to Youtube.
There are also keyboard shortcuts built into Youtube. If you turn off the
virtual cursor, meaning you can't then use first letter navigation keys, you
can then use the letters j k and l to rewind, play/pause, and fast forward. If
it's Jaws, the keystroke to turn off the virtual cursor is insert Z, and again
to turn it back on. However, if you're listening to a YouTube and all you
really want to do is pause and get up from your seat for a break, then use the
pass through key, which in Jaws is insert 3 on the number row. This lets Jaws
ignore the next key press, so you could just press K to pause the video. Then
when you're ready, use the pass through key again and type K to resume playing.
As far as downloading to make mp3s, I found a nice free one from
www.DVDVideoSoft.com
and it's a program which installs on your hard drive, and you copy the link
from a YouTube and use the program's Paste button, then tab to download. This
program has ads, and sometimes it loses focus, but it will do the job nicely.

I wonder if anybody on list owns this speaker from Bose. It costs $300.
I saw one briefly last evening at the Verizon store, as I was

given the size of the box. I really haven't looked all that much in
to this sort of speaker. I have an older dock that works with the
older style iPhone connectors, and it really sounds pretty good, but
my better half has sort of taken it over for use in his class-room.
So I'd like to know from those who have experienced this equipment,
what did you think, and are there other units you'd recommend as good
competition? I like the size and the volume and depth of sound, but

When I had a similar problem with the turntable rumbling back into the
nearby speakers, I had to put a piece of foam on each of the four feet of

The pieces were at least an inch thick and not solid foam, but spongy foam.

Hello, you can install multiple versions of Sound Forge, just like you can
of Jaws. I remember one pc I had for a long time where I had versions 6 7
and 8 installed, just because I never got around to uninstalling them. I
don't know if you have used Jim's scripts for SF, but he built some for
version eleven, and his page seems to say that there's not much change in
version eleven from version ten. I know that they have not moved to the
ribbon concept though.

Re: soundforge query, converting mono to stereo?

2013-12-25 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello, if a signal is mono, you really don't want to make what's called
pseudo-stereo. I've come across some old-time radio shows where the signal
is mono, and the person, trying to make it sound better, has applied the
pseudo-stereo effect. This kind of gives it an echo effect, and it doesn't
sound natural.

Re: BlueRay Players

2013-09-24 Thread Matthew Allbones
Hi

I have been using a PS3 as a blue ray player for the last year or so.
The player is slightly bigger than the standard set top box and it has
2 buttons only, eject and on/off.

I bought a sony remote to control it and this works fine but does
depend on how much sight you have. I say this because a recent
upgrade changed the sequence of buttons i needed to press to access
the player. My kids do use it as their main games console as well so
it did make a lot of sense financially.

Will definitely need some sight for set up and orientation.

I am going to by mine next month if all goes wel. I think the new
stream could've been a bit better, but there are enough bennifits for
me at least. First off, the old stream does only charch on the
adapter. No USB charching of any kind is supported. And that is sick
in the time we live in. So now the new stream does not just support
charching via USB, but it also charch with a pere USB adapter and only
have one port wich dubble as both an charching and connection port.
The thing I like about the new interface however, is that you can now
charch and listen wile its connected to the pc. Connect it wile the
unit is turned on, and it will charch and stil be able to play and be
usable. Turn it off and connect and turn back on again and the pc will
see it as a mass storage device like the old stream did. I am also
sick and tired of stupid Samantha and tom drink to much wisky and so
the newer acapela voices are more than usable. They really are what I
can use for long hours of reading. I love the fact that now on the new
stream you can set the sleep timer in custom incriments according to
your set time, and not only the presets they always allowed. And the
way the clock works is also very unique. They seprit the clock menus
from the regular player menu. That is ausom! Also the fact that all
features are now available on the unit without the need for a softpack
installation. And now it can do line in recording. It no longer
support recording of 3gp but mp3 and wave only. That is just fine. As
far as I no about the wifi situation, you have to either type in the
network info manually, or scan for the network and add it that way.
You might be able to add an incrippted network but I doubt it can
sync. Although you can confirm that with humanware. Maybe someone on
the stream list will no more there. And they might also help with the
nls thing, I never saw any notes regarding the presents of such
adapter like the old one. And I'm not in the US, and I didn't see the
player yet. Hope this help a bit.

How do you get the Reader to sync up with an encrypted wireless connection?

I have the previous Victor Reader Stream. What makes the newer one

the newer one?

Thanks in advance for any feedback you might have.

Re: turntables

2013-08-27 Thread Matthew Bullis
I forget the model of the Stanton turntable I bought at my local Guitar Center
about a year ago, but if you press the 33 and 45 buttons at the same time, it
swings up to 78rpm. I also bought an additional headshell, which is the bit
that screws onto the arm, so that I could switch them out. This particular
turntable from Stanton has a little hole on the top face where you can sit an
extra headshell. The turntable has no automatic features, and no hard cover,
just a cloth dust cover.

So there are three pieces you need for the 78 assembly: the headshell, the
stylus itself, and the cartridge. What I had to do was find the stylus, which
is the needle itself, then I had to find a cartridge, which is the bit between
the stylus and the headshell that has wires that you connect to the headshell.
The stylus fits onto the cartridge. You'll need to do very exacting research to
make sure that you get the right things, since you may have to order one or
more of the parts online. I found that for the 78 stylus, it didn't come
mounted onto the cartridge, so that's why I had to order the cartridge and
stylus separately, and from two different places, no less. I had sighted help
to wire up the cartridge to the headshell, and then the cartridge actually had
a standard 33 needle already there, so that's for extras, and the 78 needle
just slipped on. You got all that? I hope you find what you need. The entire
investment in order to get the proper playing setup for 78s was about six
ty dollars, half for needle and half for the cartridge. I hope this info
helps. The people at my store were helpful in looking up the model numbers of
the parts I needed, but double check anyway. The output from this 78 needle is
significantly louder than that of the one for 33s, so you'll need to adjust
your volume output when transferring.

I am newly subscribed to this list and looking to finally take the
step of switching from CD to digital.I seem to ahve 3 options in front
me but don't seem to be able to find any useufl info to amek a final

1. By a DAC and link my pc directly to my amp(Arcam A85)
2. The sonata+ internet radio and an external drive (can't find out if
this would actually work and if it will suport Flac).
3. Find a mainstream music streamer with an accessible app controlled
through an android d device.

As i am trying to do this on a budget that needs factoring in as well.

All comments gratefully received.

Size on disck: for data dvds?

2013-01-21 Thread Matthew Bullis
So when organizing my file collection to put onto cd and dvd, I've figured
out that if the properties of a folder say Size On Disc: 698mb, that this is
filling up a cd with data, and that I can't really put much more data on it.
I figured this out when I used to use an old program called Stomp Record Now
Max. This program doesn't work in Windows7, so I use Express Burn. However,
Express Burn doesn't tell me if I've exceeded the maximum for a dvd. Can
anyone tell me what the Size On Disc line in the properties should read when
you can't fit any more data onto a regular 4.7gb data dvd? I realize that
even though the size on disc may say 698, the number right next to it on the
same line may say 734 megabytes, which is 34 megs beyond a normal cd, but it
seems to burn just fine.

Thanks a lot.

Changing the sound card input within Sound Forge.

2012-08-06 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello, so I got my default input settings mapped in Windows, as well as
the other sound card mapped for output settings, since I use Jaws, and the
speech from it is routed separately from the audio portion of the computer.
However, how do I tell Sound Forge about the third sound card? I'm going to
be getting a Stanton turntable which has USB output for transferring lps.
This way I can use its RCA outputs to play it through the stereo system, and
use the USB portion for putting the sound into the computer. I looked in the
preferences pages in Sound Forge, and there doesn't seem to be a way to
specify the input and output. There's a box there that says routing, but it
doesn't look like you can select anything. Can I do this more easily within
Windows itself, by maybe having settings changed in the volume mixer for
Sound Forge once SF is open? I'd like to work this problem out before I get
the turntable. The machine comes with Cakewalk software, and the manual says
that you can direct the outputs as well as the inputs through that software,
but I'm sure it's a universal thing that can be applied to Sound Forge. Any
help would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

have a cd where tracks need to be seamless, then disc at once is the option.
A live cd will flow smoothly. If you select track at once, then the tracks
will have two-second gaps between them, which would break the flow of the
live performance.

I've had to split the files with the tool inside of Sound Forge. I'd like an

Well this is coming in late to this thread, but once you get to know the
features of MP3 Tag Studio, which is a paid program by the way, it's well
worth it. If you're tagging an album's worth of files, you can go through
and set it up once to ignore the 01 - in front of the track name, go to tag
from file name, then tag by autotag and fill in the fields and it does it
all at once. It took a little time to learn the program, but I wouldn't be
without it.

If you bought the program before he instituted the activation process, then
go to

and click on resend activation. You put in your e-mail and it generates a
code which will be sent by e-mail. The latest version is 999, so it's worth
it to go and download the latest version, since the older 95 version won't
have the activation scheme in it. Just reinstall and go from there.

Something's wrong there, definitely. Try a program called WinLame. It's a

Exactly it won't say anything. If you hit insert tab it will read a song if
it is there. If it is blank it will just say playlist or something to that
effect. Also to Walter blindtunes is just for itunes. You don't really need

Hi Walter,

If you have tracks in your playlist, you can arrow up and down the list.
When you press ctrl+n, you don't get any feedback, so you
might think nothing has happened, but then try arrowing down and you will
find there is nothing there. You can use l to locate and
start adding tracks to the empty playlist.

Hi Walter,

I think your specific question has been answered, but something you might
find useful as a JAWS user is the following.

When focussed on the playlist editor:

1. Press Insert+w to get a list of shortcut keys.

2. Arrow down the list to hear each of the keys and what they do.

3, Press escape to close the window.

You can also get help about other JAWS and Winamp keystrokes by pressing
Insert+h.

Hello to all. Can someone explain to me how to create a play list in
Winamp. I'm using JAWS 12 and EXP home. I am making some progress with
this programme, slowly but the help some of you good people have provided
has been of great value.

I've tried to find something that will allow me to create a play list and
the tutorials I've found on the net contain video and the person is using a
mouse with something different from Classic skins. They also drag and drop,
not something I'm able to do, I know it can be done with JAWS but I don't
know how to do it. Their must be a simple way to create a playlist. I've
tried many times, I've resorted to banging my head against a wall but that
hasn't helped any either LOL. Hope one of you can though. Walter.

RE: Winamp, more help, please!

2011-12-12 Thread Matthew and Edgar
Ok there is a simple fix to this. When in win amp only have the main window
and playlist window checked. From the main window control tab to the
playlist window. Hit control n if there is stuff there already. This will
clear it. Add all the tracks you want with the l command. When done either
put it on shuffle by hitting the letter s or just randomize the list with
control shift r. When ready just hit enter on the first track.

want to do with the programme is have a huge playlist containing thousands
of tracks and play them continually in a random fashion. I would use VLC

to the point of resigning to the need to use something like VLC for movies,

Well this now becomes definitely off-topic, but I'll just say that
autoharps are still definitely being made, but buying one on EBay can be
dodgy, since the autoharp is very mechanical, and parts may be missing.
There's an autoharp e-mail list called the Cyberpluckers. Googling that one

Re: q-chord accessibility

An electric autoharp is a pretty good description. The autoharp is the
acoustic instrument on which the QChord was modeled, because of the chord
layout of the buttons on both instruments, and the strum plate on the
QChord, which mimicks the string bed on the autoharp. Shane Jackson did a
demo of the QChord on Blind Cool Tech, and that demo is here:

http://www.archive.org/download/ShaneJacksonbct376Qchord/bct376Qchord.mp3
I did a demo on the autoharp and its layout on BCT as well, and that link is

Ah, iTunes is a way of life! Seriously, I'm not an iTunes user, but I
went to itunes.com, clicked on the What is iTunes link and saw the
following:

Overview

All your digital media, all in one place.
iTunes Player

Where you organize, listen, watch, and play.
iTunes Store

The world's #1 music store. And more.
iTunes Everywhere

On your Mac or PC, iPhone, iPod, iPad, and Apple TV.

Play, buy, and enjoy your music, movies, TV shows, apps, and more.
Everywhere.

I'd suggest going to http://www.apple.com/itunes/what-is/ to check it
out. If you're still interested then you can download the program for
the Mac or Windows and start organizing your music, playlists and
podcasts and visiting the iTunes Store. Obviously, if you're going to
get an iPhone, iPod or iPad then iTunes is what you would use to
synchronize your content between the different devices.

RE: Update on Winamp was Winamp versus wmp...

Hello Walter. All those checkboxes for filetypes are what you want win amp
to be able to play. I usually just choose select all. From what I know
standard should be fine. Also, and this is key. If jaws ever doesn't seem to
be reading right odds are you have changed the skin by accident. You can
only use the classic skin from what I know. You can change this easily by
hitting control p for preferences and then s for skins and choose classic
and hit enter. I hope this is a good enough start and if you have any
further questions feel free to ask.

Ok folks. I have downloaded the latest version of Winamp. I thank all for

thank you all. As I said, I've downloaded the latest version and when
installing I had three choices, light, standard and full. I opted for the
full option, was that a mistake? Or would the standard or light have been a
better choice? When I launch Winamp I get the set up dialogue but I'm not
sure what it is asking me. The first thing I get is a long list of file
types with check boxes, I assume you can either accept them all or uncheck
any file type you don't want. I also get a option to "enable Winamp agent,
what is this? If someone could walk me through this I would be grateful as
I don't want to accept stuff that is unnecessary and just confuses things.
I haven't ventured from the first dialogue screen on the set up page. Your

Okay, as I remember here's what's in the Altec Lansing Expressions Ultra Box
apart from mounds of packing which is absolute proof that us humans are
descended from apes .

2 satellite 2-way speakers
1 Sub-Woofer
1 control panel
1 3.5MM-3.5MM jack lead
1 manual
1 3.5MM socket to 2 RCA jack adapter

To the control panel, its round and consists of a number of controls.

As you'll see it looks like a mini witches hat, the hat itself turns in
either direction, you'll hear or feel it click as you turn it, each time it
clicks the faster the control.

For example by default the knob controls the volume, turn it to the first
click clockwise and the volume increases slowly, turn to the next click and
volume increase is more rapid and so on.

On the top of the controller are 3 buttons, 2 which are big and a middle
button which is small.

The upper of the 2 big buttons is your treble, press once and then turn the
knob to adjust treble.

The lower button is your bass, press once and then turn knob to adjust base.

The smaller button in the middle is your "power" button, press once to turn
power on and press again to turn power off.

This button has another default, if held down for 3 seconds the speakers are
reset to their default volume, bass and treble settings.

Now their could be more options and settings I don't know about, I mentioned
that the manual isn't the readable type so everything I've mentioned here
I've found out by playing around with the system.

I did get the speakers and love them. I do need to get someone
sighted here because I basically know where the buttons are to change from
treble to base to mids but not exactly sure the difference between the mid
and the base. I can only tell two grooves so it looks like only two buttons
to me. Also does anyone have a list of exactly what comes with it? I am
paranoid. There is a little piece that looks like a splitter for input but
it is odd that it doesn't connect to a male piece. Do you need an extra

Yeah, the alternative source input did strike me too! if it is then I can
find a way to switch to the thing, problem with the Altec Lansing manuals is
that they're very graphic and I can understand that, after all when dealing

If you'll go to:

long, and as we've been discussing on this subject, he doesn't go through

OK, well if you could let us know when you do get to that, if you do, as
maybe some units, purchased from various sellers around the world, might not
be selling the unit with the latest upgrades in. If I had the unit, I would
go test this myself, but I need to wait until I get a bluetooth device yet,
which is a bit down the road for me.

Subject: Computer Speakers

Hi!

This message was sent to another list originally so I've alter the text a
little to reflect the sending of the same message to another list .

I Bought a new pair of computer speakers today as one of the pairs I was
using is finally failing though I'm not complaining about that so much, I've
had them for nearly 4 years and they only cost me $20.00.

To put it bluntly the new pair I now have are excellent value given that
they're priced for under $100.00. The system consists of 3 speakers, 2
satellites and a bass woofer, all the circuitry for the system is in the
woofer unit.

I've not sen a woofer design such as this, its a cone shape and is designed
to sit on a desk or a shelf rather than the floor. This is the first
speaker system where I've seen a bass adjustment on the woofer, extremely
handy I must say if you're wanting to do a little "midnight blasting" and
you don't want to wake the neighbours or you have the woofer sitting next to
you on your desktop.

I like the sound of this system, bass is at a level which arouses the
interest of a pair of ears but its not over baring as some cheaper speaker
systems are, certainly the Logitech system I had was dreadful in this
regard.

Mid range and top frequencies are very pronounced and perhaps the mid range
too much so.

In short, don't buy the $20.00 pair of speakers, save your money and buy
this pair and you'll be well pleased.

If you want to further fine tune your listening experience through a 2.1
channel speaker system then take your ears up to the top Altec Lansing model
in the 2.1 range which is the "Expressions Ultra", moremore about this
particular speaker package in the coming weeks.

You can read a detailed review of the Altec Lansing Expressions Plus
Speakers on my blog at which will be
available shortly, the Expressions Plus is the model I'm talking about in
this email..

Robert Carter did a brief demo of the speaker here:
http://robertcarter.posterous.com/
and he says there are some difficulties in updating the firmware with a
screen reader, though he says it's doable. I don't know what difficulties,
but the whole package does sound pretty neat, even with the updating
troubles. The audio demo is about ten minutes long.

No, you'll have to use Firefox or Internet Explorer to download the .rar
file just like you would any other file. Click on the link to download
the file, make sure you go through the dialogs to have the file saved
and know where it is going to be located on your hard drive. Then you
can use 7-Zip to extract the files from the .rar file. You can start
7-Zip and then point it at the .rar file and do the extract. I don't
have the exact instructions at the moment. I think 7-Zip will also place
an entry in your File pulldown in Windows Explorer, so you can also just
find the file in Windows Explorer and then use the context menu or the
File pull down to extract the files.

.rar files are compressed archives, similar to .zip files. You should be
able to download them just like you would any file. The trick is how to

Well I've never had to use this feature before, but I'd like to know if the

while the program I want to record is on Saturday night. If it was just
leaving for a day and returning, I'd just leave the recording going, and
trim the before and after, since I have enough hard drive space, but I don't
have that much for this project. I'd not be able to record 48 hours
straight. If the timer feature is accessible, will it let you choose a time
for the next day?

Thanks a lot.

Re: putting cds on a hard drive

2011-08-10 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello again. I use CDEX for this purpose, and I think that was the
program we used when I was on the phone with you. You'll run into the same
problem that you had before, if it won't recognize the cd info. It will make
a folder called no artist, with a folder called no title inside of it, if
you set it up this way. Then you'll need to rename the folders, but the ID3
tags won't be filled in properly, though you could tab through and fill in
the artist and title info before you hit f9 to extract into mp3. F8 extracts
to .wav, by the way.. If you take the time to do the filling in of the info
before extracting, then the folders that are created will be relevant.

You can set a time bookmark in win amp. As the list of commands say when you
hit insert h for the jaws key commands it is m to mark the time., alt shift
m to go through the list of times and control shift m to get rid of them.

Hello all. I am curious if anyone knows an inexpensive set of speakers I can
get for a netbook. They would have to be fairly portable. I have a Toshiba

headphones though. I want to also purchase this from Amazon if I can find
something. Thanks for any help. Sincerely, Matt

RE: Adjusting the volume

2011-07-07 Thread Matthew C
It is fairly easy to use. Yu can use z to go back. C to pause. V to stop. B
to go forward. I Uusually just keep the main window and the playlist window
open. There are shortcut keys for opening and closing windows in it but you
can also alt and down arrow to the nelsoft winamp sub menu and right arrow
into it. Make sure jus the main window and playlist window are checked. You
can open tracks in the playlist window. Control n wipes it clean. Also
remember if your in the main window by accident it will remove all the other
tracks and just have that one. You can go between windows with control tab.
Also r is for repeat and s is for shuffle. Control shift t gives the time
remaining and control shift r randomizes the whole playlist. This should be
good enough to get you started. Also make sure it is in classic skin or jaws
won't read it right. This can be changed in preferences with control p and
then down to skins tab and make sure it is on classic then hit enter. Any
other questions feel free to email me off list at mcare...@att.net.

In the process of resolving my low Winamp volume issue, I apparently
messed up a different setting, and obviously I don't know which one.

Although Winamp 5.61 lite is playing just fine, each stream or file
which Winamp plays is retained as if it were in a playlist. So one can
use the B or Z keys to move forward or backward among the items which
one has played, and pressing X will cause the highlighted item to play.

What I want is that no file or stream info will be retained when I close
Winamp. What must I do to accomplish this?

Thanks.

You can either go to win amp on the start menu or on the desktop and hit
applications and enter on properties. Tab into the shortcut tab and hit the
buttons you want to use to open it. Alt control and whatever else you want

Although I worked with Jed on this, and he was using WindowEyes
while I'm using Jaws, this solution might work for you. I found that when I
focused on a flash button, like the pause button on the video, then right
clicked on it with the applications key or the Jaws right click, that it
brought up a menu, two choices of which are settings and global settings.
When I went into there, I was able to up arrow and turn up the volume. This
didn't work for Jed though, but whether it was a fluke on my part, or
whether WindowEyes doesn't relate the same to the flash buttons, I don't
know. Anyhow, it's something to look into, before getting sighted

Re: recovering cd track information

2011-03-22 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hmm, perhaps this is not a store-bought cd? If it is though, then go
into the menu bar, specifically the cddb menu, and choose a few of those
options there. Each one will activate and then take you out of the menu bar,
so you'll be trying one at a time, and maybe one of those databases will
pull up the artist and title info. If you get this to work, and one database
works more than the others, then go and set that as your primary database
lookup in the settings. The settings can be easily reached by hitting F4.
Also, when you have the artist and title the way you want it, F9 extracts
the cd tracks into mp3, and F8 extracts into .wav format. You'll want to use
the settings area to customize the quality of the mp3s though, so go through
the settings pages first before extracting a cd onto the computer. One other
note though. By default, it's set to extract all of the cd tracks on the cd.
If you go exploring down the track list, it unselects everything, and only
the item you're on will then have focus. Just be aware of that, if you
actually did mean to extract all of the tracks.

Re: recovering cd track information

2011-03-22 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hmm, odd. Are you using braille input to type or format your messages? I
checked your message, and it turned my original message into the word
couldex, when my actual message said c d e x, as four distinct letters. I'd
never seen that happen before, when it made c d translate into the braille
contraction could. Anyhow, once you put a cd into the drive and start cdex
up, it will automatically pull the cd from its database, assuming it's a
regular commercial cd. It goes by the time of each track. That's how it
figures out what cd you've put in. There are a couple of places where using
the mouse cursor, or Jaws cursor will help, specifically in opening up areas
where you tell the program where to store the files. Also, you'll probably
want to read the help area inside the program that deals with the percent
signs and how to structure that format so that it puts the files in the
correct folder structure. On another unrelated note, and you may want to
respond off-list for this, but have you kept up with Ed Potter's
announcements which he continues to do? How are you doing otherwise? He said
you might be in Virginia, but also I think you're from New York as well.
We've not corresponded before, but when the archives of Playback magazine
and the underground tapes became available on mp3, I listened to the
magazine from its beginning, though I hadn't ever been aware of it
beforehand. So keep asking questions about cdex, and I'll try to help as
best I can.

You should be able to use CDEX to get this done. It pulls from the internet

RE: Presentation of Rockbox on a Talking MP3 Player

2011-03-05 Thread Matthew C
I would wonder if he could get around that by just saying he is charging for
the labor to do it? Instead of charging any money for the actual program?
Just a thought. I don't like the policy though. As you stated I believe it
is free and easy to install.

Hmm, not sure about this, bordering on going against the Rockbox open
licence agreement, as you'll see from his web site he's selling Rockbox
installed on the player.

Re: Looking for program to rip audio tracks from CD's and is easyto navigable.

2011-02-11 Thread Matthew Bullis
Out of the many I've tried over the years, I like CDEX the best. It's
open-source, and free. If you set it up correctly, and have a bit of
knowledge of how to review the screen with the mouse cursor, then you can
get at a few buttons which aren't tabbable. Read the little pop-up about how
to configure the artist backslash album backslash track name format, and you
can get it set up with folders just the way you like it. From then on, you
can extract cds quickly. I'm using Jaws, and it tends to speak the
percentages pretty monotonously, so be sure to check the box that opens the
tray after extraction. This way, you can turn Jaws off until the door opens.
I hope you like this as much as I do. I'd give the URL, but there's a
problem with the main site right now, and so a Google search seems to serve
you better.

Sound Forge hiding audio files after they're saved.

2011-02-04 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello, I've finished transferring a tape into Sound Forge, and have
saved it as c:\tape1.wav. However, neither Windows Explorer nor the command
promt show the file is there. If I load up Sound Forge and navigate to c:\,
the file is there, and can be brought back into Sound Forge. Do you think
that Sound Forge is setting the hidden or archive attribute on this file? I
thought so, and tried to use the Dos attrib command, but it couldn't find
the file. Any suggestions? I'll be able to delete these when I'm finished
extracting the songs into individual tracks, but I'd like to clear up this
problem without needing to delete the tape-long files within Sound Forge.

Thanks a lot.
Matthew
