Crackling & Problems With The Creative X-FI Card?

2006-03-13 Thread Brian Hansen
I'm currently running into problems with the Creative Labs X-FI card. It
seems that when ever Windows makes a sound while JFW is speaking, there will
be a popping noise at the beginning of the sound. I'll also get a crackling
noise from JFW when arrowing fast through a list. I'm also getting this
crackling noise when I've got the "Open dialog" on the Screen in Sound
Forge, and I'm arrowing down through each item in the list to see which one
I want to open. Plus, when I tap the spacebar in SF, I'll get the popping
and crackling at the beginning of playback. Is anyone else having any
problems with this, and has anyone found a fix for this? I've been on the
phone with Creative, and tried everything they've suggested, but there's
been no joy in Muddville. I thought by going all Intel this time on my new
system for the processor and chip set, I'd avoid the problems of the past,
but I'm running into problems all over again. Plus, this card wasn't one of
the cheapest ones on the market. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Blessings,

Brian

Re: Crackling & Problems With The Creative X-FI Card?

2006-03-13 Thread Rick Harmon
Hi,

I get some slight clicks and pops from my Audigy 2 card when moveing quickly
through things or typing quickly but I think you can't get rid of every
single pop and click on JFW. I think part of it may be the low sample rate
of the speech and its being upsampled to 48khz for output from the audio
card. I tend to just ignore it. Now on my other system I have a SB Live
value card and it has a lot mor noticeable popping and clicking on it and I
don't prefer it at all and will probably replace it with an Audigy 2 Value
card in the near future.

Hi,

I do not believe there is any way to not upsample. My SBLive is in a Intel

I had a lot of crackling with Eloquence when I got this new computer and
it's onboard Realtek sound chip. This was fixed by two driver updates. To
bad Creative isn't as good with updates. You would think by now they would
understand text-to-speech.

I understand it shouldn't make a difference if you are using AMD or Intell.
It is the motherboard chip set that is more important. There is info about
the best chip sets and motherboards on the Creative and other audio forums.

Re: Crackling & Problems With The Creative X-FI Card?

2006-03-13 Thread Bobcat
I had a lot of crackling with Eloquence when I got this new computer and
it's onboard Realtek sound chip. This was fixed by two driver updates. The
first fixed slight crackling during playback of any media. The second got
rid of clicks at the beginning of sounds and speech.

The only audio problem I'm having now is while recording with Sound Forge 5.
I still get a bit of glitching even after following all the advice to tune
up SF and my computer. I just got a free upgrade to SF7 from Sony so will
see if this is better.

I'm a bit worried that the chipset on my motherboard may not be good for
audio and midi, especially multi-track recording and latency.

I understand it really doesn't matter whether you have an AMD or Intel
processor. What matters are the controller chip sets on the motherboard.

I'd suggest going to the Creative user forums and finding out what's up.

I was thinking of getting an X-Fi my self as a second audio only card
because I wanted the "SoundFont" technology. However, I think I'll get a
M-Audio card instead.

To bad Creative isn't as good with their updates as Realtek. You would
think by now they would
understand text-to-speech. since the old AWE32 came with a special version
of DecTalk which was tuned for their onboard DSP.

Hi,
check if:
1. There are new drivers available.
2. If you can move your sound card to another slot in the machine.

Re: Crackling & Problems With The Creative X-FI Card?

2006-03-14 Thread Brian Hansen
I've got the most up-to-date drivers available, and moving the card isn't an
option. According to the Asus motherboard manual, the slot I've got the
Creative in shares an IRQ with the Firewire port, so I've even disabled the
Firewire port in the BIOS to make sure that the X-FI is the only thing on
that IRQ.

Blessings,

Brian

Re: Crackling & Problems With The Creative X-FI Card?

2006-03-14 Thread Brian Olesen
Hi,
Oh what asus board does only have one available pci slot?
Never mind. I think it's the way elloquenze is switching sample rate.
You should really try moving your card to another slot.

Best regards
Brian
