Hi there! My reply to the original post didn’t come through so I’ll try again. Rather than fiddling around I suggest your first port of call be the Total Recorder web site, I’m willing to bet that this topic will be covered in one of the FAQ sheets there. > On 18 Nov 2014, at 7:59 am, Aidan wrote: > > I assume vox is an driver spisific feature? Total Recorder Question
I have Total Recorder 8.2 with JAWS 11 and Windows XP Pro. TR is working fine; recording streams and stuff. However I must have VOX turned on because recording stops on quiet passages. Anyone know how to turn VOX off and record everything? Thanks. Howard

You can edit mp3 files with TR without reencoding. I'm not sure about other formats. I plan to check into that some time in the near future. Hi Don. I highly recommend the kernel mode filter driver if you are using 8.x. The reason is you can use the same features with software recording without an actual driver present on the system. Hope this helps. From Chris H in Derbyshire Please check out my blog at http://chrishallsworth.klangoblog.net. Many thanks. On 21/09/2010 19:07, Donald L. not at all! that's what we're all here for . Total Recorder and Goldwave I have to say are probably some of the most amazingly priced titles in the audio tools shopping basket I've ever seen for Windows. I can't comment on Total Recorder Standard edition because I've never used it but I can say that Total Recorder Professional is an incredibly powerful and flexible application, not just for recording now but for editing, adding effects, processing and converting audio, all that for $35.00. goldwave is just value for money handed to you on a plate if you're doing professional audio editing, combined with the Multiquence software you have a studio in the palm of your hand for less than $100.00. Tom, Let me ask you this, do you know what is the file extention that you are trying to open in Total Recorder? Do you know where the file is saved and how to navigate to the file when you use the Open File option under the file menu? Is your copy of Total Recorder a Registered copy? I don't think you have answered these questions so that people on the list can help you better. Re: A Total Recorder Question
Right so now we know where we're at , yes you can do that but you'll need to alter a few settings, some of this has already been addressed. Load your file into Total Recorder first if its a wav, mp3, Flac, or whatever then Total Recorder should be able to handle it. Now from the file menu select "Save as", enter a file name and tab to the "change" button, here's where you make changes to sampling rate, format and so on, there are already some presets there by default but you may need to create an entirely new one for your specific purposes, once done get out of that dialogue box and press the "Save" button, saves you having to record from Windows Media Player or, Winamp or anything else. Hope this helps. If this can be done in Total Recorder 7 (standard)..what do I do to make this magic happen? Tom Kaufman To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

No, he doesn't have two sound cards it seems, I'm just wondering if he has the wrong input selected somehow and that's not hard to do either as Total Recorder's methods can be a little tricky to deal with at times, it seems to me that the "What You Hear" option may be selected in which case you either unselect that and select something else in Total Recorder or you manually select the input in your "Volume Control" settings, use "properties" in "Volume control" to adjust your sound card or devices "Record" settings. First, make sure you have lane_enc.dll set up in this folder: C:\WINDOWS\system\Lame_Enc.Dll Next, go into the Recording Source and Perameters dialog, and make sure Convert using "Recording format" specified below is checked. then hit space on the Change button to open the dialog to set the recording format. You will have a combo box to choose the file format, also various presets for common formats. Hope this helps. Re: Total recorder question
Hi, Don. I finally tested that Total Recorder problem, to review, we're in the advanced dialog of the Auto-stop recording feature telling the program when to stop recording. The second check box lets us say that if nothing is recorded for a given number of seconds, the recording should end. I first cleared the value that was automatically inserted in the duration field, then went into the advanced dialog where this checkbox is found. It worked perfectly. I told TR to quit if nothing was recorded for 40 seconds, and to shut down Winamp when it was done. I launched a sound in Winamp, stopped the sound and less than a minute later it did what I told it to do. Again, I haven't tried 5.2, though it doesn't seem likely this would be broken. I think a key is making sure that initial duration field is cleared. Re: Total recorder question
Dean, Thanks for your prompt response. In your response, you stated: I haven't moved to 5.2, still using 5.1. I hadn't poked my head into the auto-stop recordingdialog, so thanks for the opportunity. Using JFW, I don't see the problem you report. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, not unlikely. In advanced stop recording conditions, there are three checkboxes, each of which expands when checked so that relevant data can be offered. The first limits the recording to a size, the second says that if nothing has been recorded for a given length of time, stop, and the third lets you be more elaborate, saying that if the sound threshold does not exceed a given percentage for a given period of time, we stop, as long as a certain specified minimum recording length has been achieved. I haven't looked at the dialog with WE. Dean, Window-Eyes reds the text the same as JFW. Believe me, I have tried it as I have a demo of JFW 6.2 on my system. The problem is that if one selects that second check box and specifies a period of time, Total Recorder continues to record, long after the specified amount of time has elapsed. Please test this and let me know what you find. Don Roberts -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. It has removed 214 spam emails to date. Don, good mystery. I think the culprit here may be phantom information from a screen reader. In sum, I'm going to suggest that you write to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the question, explaining that you use a screen reader, then please share your answer with me. They are very responsive. Total recorder question
When I initially posted this approximately three weeks ago, it did not elicit a single response. So I thought I would try again. - Original Message - From: "Donald L. Roberts" I am using Total Recorder professional, version 5.2. My question, however, centers on a segment of Total Recorder which is fundamentally the same since version 4. Pardon the length of this; however, I want to make it clear what I am trying to find out. Suppose one is making a recording in Total Recorder professional. I want to select the conditions when Total Recorder will automatically stop recording. So after commencing recording, I click on auto stop recording, set the duration, and then click on advance stop recording conditions. There are three check boxes under this. The first allows one to tell T R to stop recording if the file size exceeds a designated number of megabytes. The third check box allows the user to instruct T R to stop recording if the sound thresh hold is not exceeded for a user specified number of seconds. There is also a combo box which allows the user to designate a minimum number of seconds of recording, before which T R will not shut down. So now for the question. I mentioned the uses for check boxes 1 and 3. But specifically what is the purpose for the second check box. By its wording, it would appear to duplicate that of check box #3. But I am certain that this is not the case. So just what is the use for check box #2? Thanks for responses. Don Roberts -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. RE: Total Recorder Question on Setting Bit Rate
Sylvester, When you open Total Recorder, you should have focus on the Recording source & Parameters button. Press space on this button and then shift+tab four times to get to the Change button. Press space on Change and you will be in the area where you can choose the output parameters for your file. You can choose from one of the pre-defined formats, such as MP3 near high quality, or choose your own parameters and save your choices as a new format. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Here's how I have my settings if this is any help to you, I have no trouble here. Firstly, I have Total Recorder as my default playback and recording driver, this I set upnder Audio Devices, under Sounds in the Windows Control Panel. Try setting the following options under the Total Recorder Options Menu under System Settings and see how you get on, you probably have many of them set already. Make sure that the Turn Off System Sounds check-box is checked. Set the playback and recording device to your Sound card. Check the Use directly check-box for both playback and recording For the preferred audio devices radio button, check the use total recorder driver when total recorder isn't active. check the High Priority check-box Under the restrictions page disable the accellarated recording unless you have real need of this function. Now go into Winamp and go into Preferences, arrown down the tree and select the plug-ins branch and then select output plug-ins. Press tab twice to get to the list of output plug-ins available. Select the waveout plug-in from the list box and tab to the configure button. Press tab a few times itll you get to the output device combo-box and be sure! that this is set to your sound card rather than the Microsoft Sound Mapper, Playback through Total recorder etc , press ok when done and press the close button to get out of the preferences dialog. total recorder question
Hi listers, Due to some audio issues I recently changed my Total Recorder settings and cannot remember how they should be. I have the wavout selected through my Soundblaster Live card, the checkboxes for using preferred devices are unchecked, and the Total Recorder driver box is checked. The problem is that this creates a conflict in Winamp with the wavout plugin so that I cannot use JAWSwith Eloquence while running Winamp or else get an error message because the TR driver tries to take over. I have the Direct Sound plugin which I think addresses this, but when I tried to configure it I received an error message about a bad driver or something. I hope this makes sense and that someone familiar with Total Recorder can remind me how to fix this. I'm using JFW 4.02 and Windows 98 and Winamp 2.95. Many thanks in advance. Total Recorder question
I apologize for the cross posting, but I wanted to try to get an answer as soon as possible. I found the place, in Total Recorder, Professional Edition to schedule a recording time. I've set that up. But, I made a mistake with this, in the past and don't want to do the same this time. Should Total Recorder be open at the time of recording, in order to begin recording? I messed up the last time, but I don't remember if I closed the program and it should have been open to begin recording, or the other way around. Thanks. Re: total recorder question
I don't think that would matter. are you listening to it as you record? or are you doing the sped up recording. Re: Total recorder question.
Hello The easiest way to get your registration code back for Total Recorder is to go to the High Criteria web cite. When my email changed I had to do this. There is a place to contact support. You should send them your email address. They will contact you with your registration code for the product if you request it. - Original Message - From: "Mike Mote" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. I'm trying to clone my desktop setup on my lap top, and I need to find the total recorder registration code. Does anyone know where that might be stored. I have it written down and saved on a computer that is not hooked up right now, and I hate to hook it up just to get one number off of it. Is there an easier way to do this? Total Recorder question
I actually have two questions. I believe there's a way in Total Recorder to set it so it will not begin recording until the sound begins. I haven't been able to find that. Also, once recorded, how can I cut out a lot of silence at the beginning of the file? Cindy "Determine that the thing can and shall be done, and then...find the way."
