Subject: total recorder and napster

Hi all. I hope I'm not asking a crazy question here. I have Total Recorder
downloaded, and am a subscriber of Napster. I'm, however essentially
renting all my tracks from Napster. Is it possible for me to run my Napster
files through Total Recorder, and then make them transferable to compact
flash cards, or Cds? The email support at Total Recorder told me that it is
possible, but I'm not sure they understood my question. I hope this came
across clear enough. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,

Dustin

RE: total recorder and napster

2008-11-11 Thread dean martineau
The answer should be yes. It will be easier if you run Xp than it would be
if you run Vista, but even with Vista it can be done. Try a track and see
what results you get. If it doesn't work, then we'll have to discuss your
settings.

Zen Stone Not Playing Napster Files

2008-04-01 Thread Samuel Wilkins
Hello, I've been having problems playing a WMA file I got from Napster on the
Zen Stone. I charged it up and used Windows Explorer to put the file on the
player, but when I tried playing it, it lit up saying the file type wasn't
recognised. The Windows Media Player version I'm using is version 11. What is
the problem? The Zen Stone is playing MP3 files.

with jaws if it is not focusing on the combo box, which is what it does
 for
me, use the jaws cursor to click one of the items in the box. Hopefully
 this
should bring you to the main screen. then when you tab the first box is
 the
edit field, which becomes a list box as you make more searches. the
 next
tab would be the search button then the library button. You should also
 be
able to see the library button with the jaws cursor on the left side of

get this figured out if I can. When I open Napster, using Jaws, if I
 tab
once, I get the combo box with artist, title and so on. If I tab again
 I'm
taken to the Napster home page where they push featured downloads and
recommend artists. I'm not seeing any buttons. When tabbing with
 Window-eyes
I get the artist/title box, and then with the next tab I hear list
 box.
 It
is, at this point, an undefined list box. Any idea what I'm doing

with jaws if it is not focusing on the combo box, which is what it does
 for
me, use the jaws cursor to click one of the items in the box. Hopefully
 this
should bring you to the main screen. then when you tab the first box is
 the
edit field, which becomes a list box as you make more searches. the
 next
tab would be the search button then the library button. You should also
 be
able to see the library button with the jaws cursor on the left side of

2008-03-28 Thread Larry N
Hi. Napster is a service that allows users to purchase individual songs and
full albums. Membership at a higher level allows you to download tracks and
in some cases albums which you may keep on your harddrive as long as you
continue to pay the monthly fee.

I hope this helps.

Re: Napster Question

2008-03-28 Thread Samuel Wilkins
Hello, napster is a piece of software where you can download music. There
are three versions, Napster, Napster Light and Napster To Go. The difference
is that with Napster Light, you can only buy music for just about $1.35,
whereas with Napster and Napster To Go, you pay a monthly fee where you can
download music, which is yours as long as you're subscribed to the service,
and with Napster To Go,, you can keep music but the price is raised
slightly. If you have used ITunes, Napster light is very similar.

Re: Napster Question

2008-03-27 Thread Larry N
Samuel, I gather that you are using Window-Eyes. The custom control took me
to the Napster home page. The first picture link also brought me to their
home page. The second picture link took me to searches that I had not yet
cleared. To work successfully in Napster with Window-Eyes, you're going to
nee to use your mouse keys quite a lot.

with jaws if it is not focusing on the combo box, which is what it does
 for
me, use the jaws cursor to click one of the items in the box. Hopefully
 this
should bring you to the main screen. then when you tab the first box is
 the
edit field, which becomes a list box as you make more searches. the next
tab would be the search button then the library button. You should also
 be
able to see the library button with the jaws cursor on the left side of

If you are using jaws do the following
jawskey v and turn graphics to all
control jawskey g to search for known graphics
when it has found them control shift jawskeyg to align the graphics
you should then be able to arrow down to stop. Note: You will learn to be

 Hi
I've recently joined Napster. The screen is fairly accessible but I don't
know how to control the playing of the music by using the keys. Once I
start a track I've to wait till it stops itself.
Can anyone give shortcuts to help with this process? (I can't find
navigation shortcuts in the manual but perhaps I've not looked deeply
 enough.)

Hi. A few days ago someone posted a message stating that to use Napster
  with
a screen reader, it was necessary to access using their web based
  interface.
Since I'm considering giving napster a try among other services, I have a
couple of questions. First, if I'm downloading from a web based interface
rather than using their software, is there still something that I need to
download as a subscriber in order to download files? Second, When
  accessing
on the web can one do everything that other users accomplish with
  downloaded
software?

These may sound like beginner questions but my only recent downloading
experience is with Emusic. Very easy to use and super reliable, but their
selection, though interesting, eclectic and with some excellent choices
also has a ton of gaps when it comes to many major artists. So I'm looking

around. No problem paying a bit. I just want it to work.

I have found that you can subscribe for $9.95 a month, and for that
 price,
you can stream any of their massive collection at any time, create play
lists and libraries, and listen too entire albums without difficulty.

I have checked for both obscure and well known titles, and have found all
 of

Napster tutorial

2007-09-23 Thread Brian Hartgen
Hi

I have produced a brief tutorial on using the Napster program with a
screen-reader. This runs for just over 30 minutes, and contains an
introduction concerning the advantages of using Napster, a little about
installation, downloading individual tracks, viewing all tracks available by
a specific artist, viewing information about albums and downloading them,
viewing albums by various artists, and the Napster options. I also talk
about the best ways of customising your screen-reader for use with Napster.

You can visit my web site at
www.hartgen.org/miscellaneous.html
and select the downloading music heading from that page. The tutorial is
under that heading together with other resources mentioned in the item.

Updated Napster Scripts for JFW?

2007-08-31 Thread Kane Brolin
Near the end of 2003 I downloaded a short set of scripts for Napster
that were designed for Napster Client 2.0.7.2. These were offered, I
believe, on AccessiblePrograms.com, but are not any more.

Since the iTunes Music Store is largely inaccessible to me as a blind
PC user, especially when it comes to downloading or buying full
albums, I've thought recently about Napster and have gotten a trial
subscription to start with. But I've noticed the Napster client
software is up to Ver. 3.8.1.4 now, and JAWS doesn't seem to respond
to it well without scripts. Brian, I singled you out on this message
because you've written on the Blind iPod list that you use this
service and are happy with it.

But I find that I must use the JAWS cursor to do most of the
navigating; and selecting exactly what I want and getting to all the
background info and all available albums is tricky, with the Virtual
PC Cursor sometimes working and sometimes not.

Anyone have tips? I haven't seen this issue discussed on the JFW list
since 2004.

Re: Updated Napster Scripts for JFW?

2007-08-31 Thread Brian Hartgen
Hi Kane

Thank you for your message. Yes I use Napster every week and don't have any
real problems with it, here are a few things to try.

First, you have an edit field into which you can type the artist or track
you are looking for.
Next to this is a combo box containing items such as artist or track. These
are both accessible.
Once this combo box is manipulated in the way you wish, Pressing Enter wil
usually reveal a list of tracks. You can arrow down to a track, activate
the context menu and select download.
Upon activating the context menu, sometimes you will see an item view
artist page which will be the first item on the menu. You can hit enter on
this item.
Once this is done, I start exploring with the jaws cursor. You can usually
find the title of an album somewhere, or in some instances the phrase other
members downloaded or something similar. Put the jaws cursor on any of
those elements and route PC to jaws. the virtual cursor is then available,
making it possible for you to select albums by pressing enter on the
hyperlink for the album. From there, you can select the download album
link.

I did have a problem a couple of weeks ago when I downloaded an album, and
then wanted to download part of it again. However, Napster will not let you
do this because its internal database thought the tracks were in my library,
which they were not. I called Napster, and they told me which files to
delete in order to rectify that problem. I could find my notes on this and
let you have them if you wanted. They were quite helpful at Napster and
they realise there store is not completely accessible, but I have found it
to be the most accessible music service with the widest range of tracks.

Given that I have used it for about two years or more, I have a lot of
experience in using it and if I can answer anything else please do not
hesitate to ask.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but I signed up for a free trial of
napster and when I tried installing it it said that one of the files in the
c:\program files\napster directory didn't match the setup's .cab files. It
said the medium from which I was running the setup may be corrupt. I haven't
had any other problems with my machine, other than trying to install a game
from a company, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
I tried to run it from the web site instead of saving the file and
installing and got the same error. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm wondering if there are scripts available for JAWS and Napster or if I
just need to spend a little more time getting familiar with how to use the
site.

Thank you.

legal napster problems

2007-03-19 Thread blsmass
As some of you know napster took over music now so you have to convert
your membership. Well, I can't do that because of password problems and
I can't find a way to talk to napster because they have no support of any
kind. Does anybody have some ideas? Thanks. Kurt

Two Questions about Napster

2006-12-09 Thread Chris Gilland
Does anyone know firstly, if JAWS has any scripts for the Napster
application? Of corse I'm talking about the new Napster that is 100 percent
legal. I'm not that far blown. LOL! Secondly, does anyone know if there
are any compatible Napster based portible mobile devices that are at least
half way blind friendly? Thanks.

Actually, no, not true. I consulted with Napster directly, and they said

Re: Two Questions about Napster

2006-12-09 Thread Chris Gilland
Right, I knew that about the jaws cursor, which is what I've been doing.
Just didn't know if maybe they had a script that would jump me from the edit
combo box to type in my search, then if i tab over to the combo box for
artist, album, track, etc. set that then shift tab back, and hit enter to
start searching, now to get back up to the little browser window where I can
use my virtual cursor... I didn't know if maybe there was a script that
would jump me back there. I don't mind using the jaws cursor at all, but
it's just a little tedious. For what you can get though, it's worth it.

I thnk in the past week, I've literally gotten over 400 CD's. Granted, I
did it with the unlimited part of the subscription a corse, so, you're
talking no burning, and no taking it on the go with me, but that's fine as I
usually don't burn CD's anyway. I usually just listen on my pc anyway.

Re: xm napster?

2006-07-11 Thread Wes Derby
Hi Melissa.

I don't know if you've already gotten a response to this, but here goes...

I've been an XM subscriber for a couple years now, and naturally, was
curious about accessibility when XM Napster came out, and quite frankly,
when the initial Napster software was released for legal
downloading...Sadly, I've over all found the software pretty inaccessible.
I've found it's easiest to either illegally download my music or buy from
MSN Music or Buymusic.com...As far as XM Online, it's easier to just use
listen.xmradio.com for that.

Out of curiosity, how easy to use have you found the Inno? I'm thinking of
upgrading from a MyFi to an Inno (if they're not pulled from the market)
this coming Christmas, but wonder about accessibility as far as accessing my
stored content, whether it be from my MP3 collection or stored XM
programming. I like the fact that it will apparently let you record
multiple programs at once, whereas the MyFi only allows one at a time...It'd
be great to be recording Opie Anthony, but still be able to get maybe Tom
Petty's Burried Treasure, or something on Boneyard, or Bill Anderson's show
on America...And so on.

So, I guess what I'm asking is, for a blind user, is the Inno worth buying
at this point?

 Hi Gang:

Does anyone know how to select multiple tracks to purchase in Napster. I
can see how to accomplish purchasing either a single track or an entire
album but I don't know how to select multiple tracks.

Thanks all over the place gang.

Napster: How does one manage an account?

2005-12-11 Thread Michael Lang
I created a trial account yesterday. It works quite well, however I
haven't found a way to cancel my account. The FAQ says, that one can do
that by clicking on account status or something similar. On the start page,
there are only links to new releases and such. I clicked on one of the
graphics at the bottom of the screen and got to the users manual. So
there could be another graphic, which would bring me to my account
settings, but I can't find it.

Thanks

Re: napster question?

2005-10-23 Thread Ann
I've been using napster for a week or so, and it can be used if you aren't
afraid to use your Jaws cursor or Mouse Cursor, for Window-eyes, a lot.

There are vast areas for improvement in accessibility, though. I'm sure
someone with good scripting knowledge could easily script this program for
JFW, and set files writers probably could make Window-eyes set files as
well. But, that is, for the moment, beyond my basic scripting capabilities,
and I have no idea how to begin to write Set Files.

brian you probably have to use the middle usb port as it supports the media
to go functions of the player. the end port acts as a regular hard drive on
the pc and the middle port supports the digital rights management feature.
see if that helps. you may also have to reconfigure the u s b ports in the
menus. in there you will find an option for desktop or terminal support.
don't know what that is so I left it alone.

Napster Supported Players

2005-03-20 Thread Geoff Stephens
Just to let people know what I've found out so far:

I was excited about Napster but should have read a little more. Oh well--I
only have the 14-day-trial so it can't be that bad.

When I saw that napster to go supports selected players and Iriver was on
the list, I immediately signed up for the free trial. I found out later
that Napster to go only supports the newest Iriver player and not my IHP120.
Supported players can copy music to players instead of only having access on
the PC.

From what I've found so far, there may not be any backward compatibility.
At first I thought new firmware might be released to allow the older players
to work with Napster. This may still happen, but all I've seen are
complaints from people who don't have the requisite players and no one
talking about which players will e supported soon.

Has anyone else yet had any experience with Napster to go?

Does napster charge you per song that you download to your hard drive?

I thought it said you had unlimited downloads to your hard drive, but
when I was looking through a list of songs there were prices listed.

It only charges if you can buy the songs. Now, how you buy and burn
them still have me stumped. But, we are working on it.
