Looking for sequencing software
Hi there, I hope this is an appropriate question for this list. If not, I apologize. I'm looking for two pieces of software that can help me. I am totally blind and use a PC computer with the JAWS screen reader. First, I'm looking for some kind of free sequencing software that can help me manipulate Midi files. What I need to do with some of these files that are being sent to me is to loop them while practicing, change the tempo, and replay them if necessary. Someone recommended QWS (Quick Windows Sequencer) but I can't figure it out for anything. Second, I wonder if there's a similar program that can do the same with mp3's. Mainly for that one, it would be nice to change tempos and even keys. For instance, the group with whom I play made some recordings of songs for me to practice. Now they've changed those songs to a different key, but rather than ask them to record them again in the new keys, it would be nice to find a software package that could do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Jim To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Re: Looking for sequencing software
Hi. Well QWS is a very accessible free piece of software. It's a good idea to look over the manual though. I don't think you'll find anything better without buying something like cakewalk. As far as looping and changing tempos of mp3's I'd have to reccomend goldwave as a lot of folks do here on this list. It's not free but it has a nice demo to play with and if you like it, it's only 49 dollars with free updates. The programmer has been very good about accessibility. www.goldwave.com - Original Message - From: Jim Portillo portillo@gmail.com To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, May 15, 2012 1:09 AM Subject: Looking for sequencing software Hi there, I hope this is an appropriate question for this list. So, does QWS loop at all? It says it does, but I can't seem to get it looping. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Brett Boyer Sent: Tuesday, May 15, 2012 10:07 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Looking for sequencing software Hi. Re: Looking for sequencing software
Hi Jim. To be honest I've never looped. I've overdubbed, I've quantized, I've edited out things I didn't want but I've never looped with it. If it says it can than I believe it. Don't give up I promise you it's one of the most accessible free sequencers I've seen. If all else fails you might be able to copy and paste the same part multiple times as a cheap work around but I'm afraid I don't have much experience looping with the software. bb - Original Message - From: Jim Portillo portillo@gmail.com To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, May 15, 2012 11:20 AM Subject: RE: Looking for sequencing software So, does QWS loop at all? Re: sequencing software
Dean! Sonar by Cakewalk is really what most of the professionals are using for sequencing on Windows systems. Input music different ways both through audio and through MIDI, no need for a MIDI keyboard. There are a couple of options but we're talking about a serious financial investment starting at $349.00 then another $289.00 for JFW scripts to make it friendly. Some people use it with Window Eyes right out of the box. Check out Sonar at www.chirpingbat.com/sonar.shtml. At any rate there are plenty of screen reader users using Sonar both professionally and as a hobby who are anxious to bring you up to speed on it. Is there accessible, easy-to-learn software to sequence music? A friend of mine wants to know. Thanks, Dean I personally know someone who literally is older than dirt.
