Re: sound Card question

2015-06-15 Thread Dane Trethowan
I posted an e-Mail regarding this topic around 18 hours ago, the email
has been bouncing ever since smile. so I’ll try again.

The question was, could analogue 2.1 speaker systems be connected to a
5.1 channel sound card?

Usually the case is yes given that most 5.1 or greater channel sound
cards have analogue outputs thus will accept an analogue 2.1 speaker
system which only requires the connection of the standard front left and
right channel.

I’m buying another sound card which I’ll detail in my next email, it has
outputs for the standard analogue speakers - line-out - as well as
outputs for read, centre and SBW speakers so you can fully customise the
system..

On the other hand - if you want to skip all of that and make things
plain and simple - then perhaps you might just get some speakers that
plug directly into the USB connection of your computer, the Logitech Z20
I think they’re called, I bought half a dozen pairs of these last year,
worth every bit of $20 per pair.

For their size they sound very nice, excellent audio quality for speech
and not too bad for music.

Bowers And Wilkins have a similar pair - similar meaning that they too
connect to a USB connection - but they sound a thousand times better
than the Logitech speaker system I described above, they cost somewhat
more too smile but a very worthwhile investment if you want sound
quality on your desktop.

I know with WMP 'Windows media Player' you can direct it to your external
sound card if needed. Do alt+t fot tools within WM Player choose options.
Find the Devices tab. Then tab to a list. For me a first hear my DVD drive

Press tab two times and enter. You will hear something like Direct Sound

My suggestion is to choose your sound card for music and high quality
audio and select it as your primary sound card. then direct JAWS to
only use the other sound card. I have found no need to then configure
multiple players such as Winamp, windows Media, and Quicktimes along
with itunes. I did configure Winamp though to ensure it uses my
roland sound card and not the internal one because I use Winamp a lot.

Re: Sound card question

2014-07-29 Thread Petro Giannakopoulos
If you tell Windows to use the external sound card in its settings for both
playback and recording it will always use the external sound card for you
for your media. You must tell your screen reader to use the other / internal
sound card in its settings. For JAWS you can do insert j then u then o then
review the list of available sound cards. In that list you choose the
internal sound card with enter key. It will have a check mark or will say in
speech checked. This is what i do here.

What card is this? I should think the PC would just see it so have some
speakers connected to it. The only thing the software may or may not do is
have controls for it, and some cool effects like making yourself sound like

the software is sadly inaccessible. Like it is in the case of the X FI

24/96 documentation was different. The biggest concept I faced is
that recording uses one interface configuration and optimal playing of
sound uses another interface configuration. Additionally, the card is
adjusted on the fourth device slot rather than the first, which threw
me for a loop at first.

I have been extremely pleased with this card and find it delivers far
superior sound compared to one of the Creative cards, which I had with

High Less,
They have all of their sound cards and other products posted on their
website.

http://www.m-audio.com/
I'm thinking about the Audio Phial-2496 because I'm getting 2 for the price
of 1.

I get RCA inputs and outputs.
And plus, I get a mixer that is integrated in to the control panel.
Most everyday sound cards don't have that.
And plus, I get a very big brake from the norm.
My music and movies will sound a whole lot better then they do with my
odyssey 4 series sound card made by Creative Labs.

Also, my recordings will sound a whole lot better too as well.
The only drawback is, there are no mike in jacks, so you'll need a preamp
for your mike.

My best regards.
 John.

I'm thinking about the Audio Phial-2496 because I'm getting 2 for the
price of 1.

John,

I have two Windows XP computers using the Audiophile 24/96 card from
M-Audio. No, Jaws scripts are not needed to use them successfully and
fully accessibly. The manual is not well written and I needed to read
it five times or so very thoroughly before I fully understood what I
needed. I also had a sighted person describe the interface on three
different times before I got the hang of it. I say all of this
because I am used to reading manuals all the time and figuring
products out. I also am highly comfortable picking through legal
statutes and regulations and analyzing them. Somehow the Audiophile
24/96 documentation was different. The biggest concept I faced is
that recording uses one interface configuration and optimal playing of
sound uses another interface configuration. Additionally, the card is
adjusted on the fourth device slot rather than the first, which threw
me for a loop at first.

I have been extremely pleased with this card and find it delivers far
superior sound compared to one of the Creative cards, which I had with
my first couple of computers.

Hello Frank,
According to what I read about them on their website, the answer to that
question is no.
I don't know this for sure, but there is a strong possibility that some of
them may have XLR jacks on them.

Because the website talks about balanced and unbalanced outputs and inputs.
But what kind of configurations are those balanced and unbalanced outputs
and inputs in, are anyone's guess.

Re: M AUDIO SOUND CARD QUESTION REPOST

2010-05-02 Thread Kelly Pierce
The Audiophile 24/96 was introduced in the early 2000s. When I was
shopping for a sound card in the mid-2000s, the M-Audio cards in
higher price ranges had RCA, digital and quarter inch jack output and
inputs. After plowing thousands of dollars into Windows hardware and
software and thousands of hours learning it all, I’m a Windows guy
totally so I have no information on Mac compatibility.

Regarding which high-quality sound card to get today, Jonathan
certainly had a few ideas several weeks ago. I used as my guide the
sound card selected by Dancing Dots for their digital workstation. I
figured they already analyzed the competing issues of accessibility,
price and sound quality and chose a card that fit within this nexus.
When I purchased the Audiophile 24/96, this was the card used in those
workstations. Now Dancing Dots has moved onto another card I believe.
I found this choice to be perfect for my needs and would use the same
method again.

I don't remember exactly what model of M Audio sound card I had, but it was
in an old Windows 95 machine.
I had to get someone to right JFW scripts for the control panel in order for
me to use it.

Again, thinks a whole bunch!
My best regards.
 John.
PS. How would the Audio Phial-2496 work with Voice Over which is the screen
reader on Macintosh systems?

Hello,
Appologies if this has already been covered in this thread. Open the
Windows Volume Control and press the alt keyto get to the options menu.
Arrow down past the properties dialog and you'll hit the advanced
controls
checkbox. Make sure this is checked. Depending on the card you'll
either

get tone controls or the ability to boost your mic gain by 10db. It
varies with the card and I have come across both. HTH.

hello, most likely the reason why there might not be tone controlls on alot
of soundcards is because in whatever media player you use to play music they
give you eq's. i use itunes and its very accessible. and its completely
free. i am getting absolutely killer sound from using itunes. because there
eq gives you pre-sets and also you can create your own personal settings and
save them as defaults. very simple and easy to use.

With some of those creative cards you also have to set your speaker type to

Joe,
What you need to do is to switch the headphones on. Somewhere in the
creative menu there is a settings option. When you go into this, there is a
headphones tab. You first have to check the headphones checkbox, then you
need to decide whether when using headphones, the sound comes out of the
speakers as well. Quirky I know, but that's creative for you.
My memory is not that good, but if you get stuck, I still have a machine
with this module set up, and I guess I'll fire it up, and be able to tell
you exactly which option to choose.

Hi Joe,
Sorry to take so long getting back, but have been rehearsing all day,
(it takes me all day to get Because you're mine right). However, it
sounds like you have the same module I have, and in whichcase, there
should have been a disk with it. Yes, it is plug and play, but if you
want to fiddle with it, then you need to install the software.
Once done, you can go into Device control in the Soundblaster menu, and
check the box which says Monitor.
Job done,

If you have trouble finding the disk, I'll try to find some way of
getting you the software.

RE: sound card question

2007-09-28 Thread Cornell Ligon
hi Joe,
Yes, go into properties of the sound card once it's plugged in and go to tab
that says update drivers:
my computer - select drive card is on - shift plus F-10 for properties...
You may have to alt tab to the driver section.

Best Regards,
Cornell

RE: sound card question

2007-09-27 Thread David Reynolds
Joe,
What you need to do is to switch the headphones on. Somewhere in the
creative menu there is a settings option. When you go into this, there
is a headphones tab. You first have to check the headphones checkbox,
then you need to decide whether when using headphones, the sound comes
out of the speakers as well. Quirky I know, but that's creative for you.
My memory is not that good, but if you get stuck, I still have a machine
with this module set up, and I guess I'll fire it up, and be able to
tell you exactly which option to choose.

Best,

Dave.

sound card question

2007-02-10 Thread Joe
Can anyone tell me if there are still any sound cards made that have both a
line and Mick jack? Turtle beach made the montego II card in 2000 that did and
its a great card but it doesn't have drivers for xp. My new pc has a good sound
blaster card but it shares Mick and line on the same jack. When I use a y cable
to make it possible to have Mick and turntable hooked up at the same time it
combines both left and right channels for the line and I lose stereo. Is there
any way around this without buying a new card? Thanks, Joe.

Also, what works is an external sound card.
We have 2. external sound cards from Sound Blaster; they work really well.
Especially for a lap-top computer.
I use the internal sound card, but if I have problems I can use the sound
blaster external card For my IBM THINK-PAD lap-top. and it has a separate
mich and head phone jack.

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a good sound card where it doesn't come with it's own

windows xp. Is the sound blaster live Audigy SE good for what I'm looking for?
Easy instalation, no high end noise, that kind of thing?

Hello. Currently I have a Soundmax integrated sound card and a
Soundblaster Audigy PCI internal card. I'm wanting to replace the
Soundmax with another PCI card due to the problems I'm having with the
Soundmax's volume going way low. My question is if there are any
problems in getting a second Soundblaster. Will there be conflicts if I
have two similar cards in the same machine or should I just get a
different brand? Since I'm just needing it for basic voice chat, Windows
sounds, and software speech the replacement sound card need not have a
lot of bells and whistles.

Re: replacement sound card question

2006-03-30 Thread Brent Harding
My guess would be that most cards will fight with running 2 of the same
type. Since both use the same device driver, the system wouldn't know which
one it's talking to. To make matters worse, the same resources would be
likely assigned to both. I heard some really expensive cards can be run more
than one per machine, but not sure what kind. I thought someone told me they
cost around $700. I would just get another brand, but it has to not use any
of the drivers you already have.

USB Sound Card question

2006-03-13 Thread Larry N
My new computer includes a 5.1 surround sound chip. It offers 1 plugg each
for mike, speakers and line in. The store that sold it to me claims that I
cannot do better with - a USB sound card, or an autigy 2ZS which offers
jacks on both the front and back. This is a great computer in all other
respects, but it's my feeling that I can do better than a 5.1 chip without
breaking the bank. Does anyone have an opinion on the subject.

By the way, most of my recording is line in, and it would certainly help to
have more than 1 line in jack along with convenient access. I'm using bothe
Window Eyes 5.5 and Jaws 7.0.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Larry

Re: USB Sound Card question

2006-03-08 Thread Brent Harding
You don't have the noise of the internal parts of the machine in it as much,
I'm sure. Otherwise they're probably not necessarily any better but could be
depending on what the system came with.

Re: USB Sound Card question

2006-03-08 Thread Kevin Lloyd
Hi Gerry.

The only time I'd disagree with this is if you're using a laptop. An
external USB soundcard is an absolute must if connecting to a hi-fi.

Regards.

USB Sound Card question

2006-03-07 Thread Gary Schindler
How does one hear what is coming through a USB soundcard? Must you plug in
another set of speakers into the soundcard? the reason I ask is that I have
a USB Logitech Microphone, and when I use it, I don't hear anything coming
through the speakers that are hooked up to the computer soundcard itself!

Hello Gary,

On Tuesday, March 7, 2006, 11:38:35 AM, you bellowed the following:
How does one hear what is coming through a USB soundcard? Must you plug in
another set of speakers into the soundcard?

Either that, or you could be cheap and patch a USB soundcard into the
line in of a sound card that already has speakers on it's output,
assuming you have a line in available (usually not the case with
laptops).
Also, many multimedia speaker sets have two inputs on them for just this
purpose.

One could probably patch the digital out in if the line jack is already
used. I think most onboard cards now even have some sort of digital in.

JAWS and sound card question.

2004-09-23 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hi Gang:

I recently tested a USB Audigy soundcard on Windows XP using JFW and found that I was
getting the same clicking affect that was prevelent with the SoundBlaster live card.

Is this a known issue?

Can someone recommend a good soundcard to use for jaws and voice over IP applications?

I do have a delta soundcard; however, they do not work well with Jaws or voice over
IP. Therefore, I need a second card.

Thanks all over the place gang.
