Internet Volume Control
Greetings All, I just purchased a Toshiba laptop using Windows 8 to replace my old workhorse computer. I really like it but I have a problem I hope someone can help me with here. I'm using Jaws 14 but whenever I access audio on the internet meaning radio etc, the audio almost drowns out Jaws completely. I found the system volume controls and to hear Jaws reasonably well, I have to turn the internet volume control down to between 15 and 20% with everything else maxed out at 100%. My problem is, I can't seem to find a way to save the internet volume setting. Whether I use Escape or Alt-F4 to close the volume controls window, the next time I access audio on the internet, the volume is right back at 100% with all the other volumes. I've never encountered this problem before as I've always had multiple sound cards in my computers, one for Jaws and one for recording playing, etc. So, how can I save the internet volume control setting once and for all or what do those of you who have single sound cards do to balance volume so you can stream audio and use Jaws at the same time. Thanks in advance for any help. Lee Mounger To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
cannot find play control left right slider in volume control
All my volume settings check out on my XP computer, and the right speaker is on. But when playing through headphones it is only showing in the left ear. There was a setting called play/control but I'm not seeing it, and I'm wondering if this missing item is set to a low level on up/down and/or left/right slider. I have an SB Audigy 1040 card. I have also tested these headphones on another computer and the right side comes out fine, so these are not mono headphones. I don't know if something in sound card can be repaired, but any help would be appreciated. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Total Recorder 7 PE and solution to Driver installation problem (Fw: About Drivers, Sound Card Volume Control, and Screen Reader Compatibility)
Hello List! I solved the problem of TR7PE's drivers muting or turning down my sound system after installing TR7PE. Well, it was the driver of TR7PE causing the problem. With WXPPro, the TR7PE Kernal Driver does not work and should not be installed. It is okay to install regular TR driver. The kernal driver may work with Vista, but I don't know, as I have not tried it. Highcriteria's response to my question is attached to this email. Thanks for all your help and suggestions. James Robinson - Original Message - From: Jardata Central (Jardatabiz) To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2008 7:37 PM Subject: Fw: About Drivers, Sound Card Volume Control, and Screen Reader Compatibility - Original Message - From: HighCriteriaSupport To: 'Jardata Central (Jardatabiz)' Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2008 5:28 AM Subject: RE: About Drivers, Sound Card Volume Control, and Screen Reader Compatibility Hello James Robinson, The major difference between versions 6.1 and 7.0 of Total Recorder is that version 7.0 is supplied with two audio drivers of different types: user-mode audio driver (one used in version 6.1) and kernel-mode. The main advantage of new kernel-mode audio driver is that it is fully compatible with Windows Vista and programs using DirectSound (e.g. Skype 3.x), however it also has its disadvantages. One of them is that after installing Total Recorder you may begin experiencing problems with sound level. This problem is also described in the following Total Recorder FAQ section: http://www.totalrecorder.com/faq_tr.htm#49b For more information on selecting the type of driver to be installed and used with Total Recorder you may wish to refer to the following link: http://www.totalrecorder.com/tr_drivers.htm > Version 61PE and all previous versions have always worked flawlessly for me In your situation we would suggest you install Total Recorder without its kernel-mode audio driver. To install or uninstall a driver, you must reinstall Total Recorder over the installed instance and select the appropriate driver options during installation. All of Total Recorder's configuration settings and registration information are preserved. If after this you experience problems with Skype (or any other application using Direct Sound) you will be able to set Total Recorder not to use its user-mode driver with it (menu Options-> Settings, Driver tab-> Troubleshooting settings...). Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance to you. Regards, High Criteria Support Team. Version 61PE and all previous versions have always worked flawlessly for me; however, after installing TR7PE, I am experiencing trouble with my volume control. I have set my default sound drivers as the one I want to use, as I always have been using; TR7Pe works fine while it is running or as long as I don't reboot the system. the problem I am experiencing is that, the program, for some unexplainable reason to me, keeps turning down my volume control and, no matter what I do, it has to be reset each time the system comes on. Now, I use screen readers on my machine, specifically JAWS 9 Professional. I think the problem is somewhere with the TR7Pe drivers and how it handles the volume controls. You see, the screenreader has to be heard so I can know what log-in info the system wants. You know, I think the Screen Reader is actually working, but it is way down (completedly at zero I believe. In the meantime, I put a quick mix file in my start-up folder that automatically turns the volume controls back to their original state. Thids works, but I want the other programs to work properly. Other programs use the sound card too (Skype, Windows Messenger) and, of course, my screen reader. Could you give me some input on how to keep the volume controls as the system is set. Like I say, I have used TR for many years and never experienced this situation. It is probably some setting I haven't thought of, but I hope you can tell me what it is. For example, during installation, there are two drivers, with check boxes, to install or not install, which I have installed, but disabled I think, as I have my sound card as my default player and recorder. Re: my bass and trebel wettings under my volume control
High Casey, what you have there with the low bass and such, are a set of DFX controls. I don't know much about Window Eyes, but in any screen reader, you should be able to get at those. If you have no use for them, there is an optional button that will let you turn those off and on. My first Windows XP computer which was an IBM system, I had to ask my wife to help me set my sound card up the way I wanted it because some parts of it Jaws didn't and wouldn't read them to me. 4.1 surround sound anyone? This is what DFX will give you from only a pare of stereo speakers. I myself if I wanted that, I would download the plug in for whatever media player I'm using, and I'd still get the DFX controls. Long story short, you will need a pare of seeing eyes to bell you out of that one. My best regards. Now there is also a high bass or treble but I try to get the low part of that to go away and just say bass track bar 215 and treble track bar 255 and it doesn't do that. Overdubbing delay, volume control & more
Hey, Guys! Okay, I understand the whole thing about why there is a delay between the input signal that you are recording (overdubbing) and the playback audio that you are listening to, but am clueless as to how to compensate for it. At first, I thought I could make an adjustment in the Windows volume control, but am finding that I can either: 1) record from either my sound card input, or my microphone,, but can only listen from my sound card output. In my 2 inch tape days, we could listen from the record head, so this was not a problem, but in the digital world, there seems to be something that I am not understanding. Is this a shortcoming of my RealTek sound card? Is it a setting found in my N-Track recording program? Is it indeed a Windows volume control issue? One point of interest... I used to be able to do this in Audacity, but cannot do it anymore, which leads me to believe that I have changed something affecting this feature in every recording program. Any ideas? Does anyone mind going through the painstaking task of telling me exactly how it should be configured, or where I can find such instructions? Thanks! Hi, Does anyone know if there is a way to make it so the real player volume control does not control the entire system volume? No Its not hidden. Its there and there are dos applications in this folder that i have run. And these applications run and just say finished and I can't use the window to do anything else. Its just the original dos window I can't get to come up. I have checked out many help topics on the net but I haven't figured it out yet. off topic ms dosRe: off topicRe: creative Volume Control
Here is the message I get when I type command in run. Cannot find the file 'C:\WINDOWS\'. Make sure that the file exists on your system and that the path and filename are correct. This is when I have CMD C:\WINDOWS\ in the cmd line edit edit box. The other edit boxes are blank. As I said before the other boxes are working and batch file this is the same message comes up when I enter on ms dos prompt. Hope this sheds some light on the problem. Re: Winamp & Volume control
Hi Marsha, do you have the appropriate box checked in the output section of the Winamp preferences? To check if you do, what you'll need to do is open the preferences, control plus p. In the tree view, select output, and in the list of plugins, you'll need to select Nullsoft waveout. Next, tab to the configure button. In that dialogue, there *should* be a checkbox that says, volume control enable. If this box is not checked, you'll need to check it. Next there's a checkbox that says volume control alt. setting method slow. If both these boxes are checked, then you should be able to at least control the volume of Winamp independent of your software speech. I don't know if this extends to the hotkeys for any application in windows, but this is a starting point at least. Hope that gets you somewhere. Not sure if it'll fix the problem with the hotkeys like I said but it's a start. At 03:21 PM 6/10/2006, you wrote: > I just downloaded Winamp 523. I just downloaded Winamp 523. There doesn't seem to be a way to change the volume in Winamp. The Global (?) short cut keys said to use "Alt+control+up or down" to control the volume from any application. This doesn't seem to work. Does it work for others? What settings would be helpful? Hi Josh, Download and install quick mix from: www.jfwlite.com/programs You can save your mixer settings, and then place the file in your startup group, so your mixer settings will be the same at startup every time. Or, you can take your machine back to the person that worked on it, and have them correct the problem they created. Re: finding the microphone volume in the volume control
You must make sure to check it under properties for ither adjust volume for play back, and or adjust volume for recording. You do that by sellecting ither radio button, and tab and you should see a listview of options, make sure you check the correct ones so they will show up. I successfully signed up to listen to college basketball on Yahoo. Unfortunately, when I click on a game, the volume is at the lowest possible setting, even though my pc-s volume is set fine. Using Windoweyes, I am unable to access the volume up and volume down controls in Yahoo's player, even though these controls are visible and accessible by a sighted person using the mouse. This is extremely frustrating. I'm using the latest version of windoweyes with windows XP Sp-2.Can anybody give me any tips re accessing the volume so I can listen to ncaa sports? I am also trying to change my default to realplayer as opposed to windows media player. Even though I've changed this in Media Helper, Yahoo always seems to default back to windows media player. confused about mic settings and volume control
Hi listers, I should know this but it's early, so hopefully someone can clear the fog in my brain . I was trying to figure out what if anything I can do to increase my mic volume in a chat room. In going into the volume controls for SB Live, I'm not seeing anything for microphone under playback, is this correct? Assuming there should be a mic option under playback, what do I have to do to fix this? In the record controls I found that the mic volume was down to 11pc though everything else seemed to be where I expected. I have increased it to 71pc but wondered if this will solve my problem in the chat room? also, I find the recording settings a bit confusing since it seems that only one thing can be checked at a time, right? I want to keep my settings as constant as possible and to save them in Quikmix but want to besure I have them optimally configured, so could someone advise me on this? can't adjust record volume control in windows xp
Hi, I have a creative sound blaster PCI and windows xp, when I go in to the adjust volume for record I can adjust the mic volume numbers, but they don't mean a thing. When I record in gold wave, the volume remains the same whether the number is 0, 500 or anything in between. The only way the volume can be adjusted is with the track bar when I'm in an I vocalize chat room. If I go out of the chat room, the volume snaps back to the original unchangeable level. The numbers lie! I even tried unchecking microphone boost, that's in playback though, and it didn't do any good. It's very odd. Shawn > __ > Do you Yahoo!? > New and Improved Yahoo!
