Re: watching tv on my computer?

2013-06-29 Thread Gary King

Juan,
The suggestions to use Windows Media Center with a TV tuner seem reasonable
until you do some research on this solution. Put DirecTV and Windows Media
Center in a Google search and read through the results. You will quickly
see how sighted folks have struggled with various combinations of hardware
and software to make this work. The accessibility of some of this software
may also be a problem. I have DirecTV, but I don't consider trying to make
it work with Media Center worth the effort.

Yeah, my main problem seemed to be Comcast pretending they didn't know
anything about how to do this. But this OT. I just wanted to expand on what
you were saying a bit. I do still want and intend to do it though.

You're using Windows 7, do you know what version of Windows 7 you're using?

If you're using Windows 7 Premium and above then you can use the built-in
Windows Media Center tool, its quite accessible with Window-Eyes.

All very much depends on what sort of hardware you're running, the Direct TV
box may have a USB socket in which case a cable is run between the computer and
the box.

I take it that by Direct TV we're referring to some sort of cable or
satellite box right?

 Hello:
I only have windows 7 home.
That's why I was hoping for a third party software or firm-ware that I
 could use.
Direct tv is a us tv provider.
 I'd appreciate your input
 Thanks.

You're using Windows 7, do you know what version of Windows 7 you're
 using?

If you're using Windows 7 Premium and above then you can use the
built-in Windows Media Center tool, its quite accessible with Window-Eyes.

You connect the PC to a TV tooner card instead of a TV. In other words, for
this, think of your PC as a TV. You all need a TV tooner for this.

Yeah, that's the thing. We'll just have to see if he means home basic, or
Home Premium. If he means Basic, then you're right. If it's Premium, then he
has it and all he needs do after connecting the TV box to the toner, is hit
ALT Windows Inter In other words, we're lacking some info here..

gOkay, well you'll need to get extra software then as Windows Media
Center doesn't come with Windows 7 Home Edition.
