Well, I live in the heart of Silicon Valley & Google & Yahoo are BOTH
local companies. All I can say is, if G-List has as much trouble with
Google Lists as folks have had with Yahoo lists in the past, (like them
not recognizing your legitimate user name & pass word, even sometimes
ones THEY have assigned you) we are going to lose a lot os members.
Now, I will say that Yahoo HAS improved. I guess they got tired of
folks referring to them as "Yapoo". LOL

I have not seen the reason discussed on the List as to WHY we are
switching, but presume the List Nannies have a valid reason. However,
being an "old-time" mid-Westerner who came to "Silicon Valley" when it
was still "Santa Clara Valley" ( the Valley of Heart's Delight was it's
nickname then, not Silicon Valley), I am still of the opinion that "If
it ain't broke, don't fix it".

The way Gogle's IPO took off, it better do a good job!!! LOL

Well I do know that you don't need to use gmail in order to use Google
Groups. I have my Google Groups account set for one of my email addresses
that I have through my ISP and I check my email using Eudora.

I have subscribed to the Vintage Macs list, the OS 9 list and the PowerBooks
list so far and I am getting messages from the PowerBooks list and the
Vintage Macs list. I am going to check on the OS 9 list, maybe it just isn't
active.

What is the name of the list on Google Groups that is going to replace this
list?

Someone should know I am sure. :-}

I don't have a gmail account and haven't tried to access gmail as yet, so I

the iCab 3.82beta and try this version of iCab out.

Let us know what your results are after you try gmail with the iCab 3.82beta.

Receiving the email is not the issue it is rather that unless one is running
OS X or you use a PC there doesn't seem a way to create an account for Google
Groups or to login to Google Groups.

What one can do is to send an email to Google Groups and subscribe, but that
only works for individual messages and then one can not configure anything or
read the email in the Google Groups web page or do any of the things touted
by Dan Knight as advantages.

I would conclude that Dan didn't do any checking with a browser running OS 9
when he set up the Google Groups lists. Nice huh? Yeah there is a Vintage Mac
list and an OS 9 list, etc., but you have to use OS X or a PC to actually
have any advantages that I can see.

I think is the same thing that happen when you get into the login window of
Google's social network site Orkut . The solution for
me is to type the username and password very quickly and press "Return",
asking the site to remember my username, all of this before the "frozen
clock of death" appear...

Anyway, it shoul be noted that all of this isn't necessary on iCab, that
support GMail/Orkut/Google login whithout this kind of bug.

I dont know yet what will happen with them new fancy google lists

but I wrote alexander that designs icab and this is his reply:

In general gmail does work with iCab. But because google ignores almost all
web standards in their web services and uses badly written browser sniffers
to decide which proprietary browser feature it can use, it's a little bit
difficult to configure iCab in a way so that it can bypass the bad browser
sniffer code.

Also google changes the code of their web services from time to time so this
is another problem. Because when I find a way to bypass the bad browser
sniffer code and google changes their code afterwards, I may have to find
another way to bypass their browser sniffer code again. Hopefully the gmail
code will be more stable when it is out of "beta" state.

Well, I can log in OK using Netscape 7.02 and OS 9.2.2, though it often
hangs after the group opens. The title at the top of the screen on
Google Groups does say "Beta" so perhaps the whole problem isn't on
Netscape's side.

I wanted to note that I can't log in to Google Groups with my main browser
Netscape 7.02 under OS 9 at all, each time I try to enter my password I get a
watch cursor that will not go away.

Anyone else have any experiences with their browser one way or the other?
