Now the K 30mm f2.8 is better optically than almost all of the 28mm lenses Pentax made. There is a 28mm M/A at f2.0 and a K version with a different optical formula. God knows what those sell for they are pretty rare as well as being pretty fast for wide angle lenses. Also the 30 is supposed to be optically superior to them all. The f3.5 versions in the 28mm lenses in K,M,A are also supposed to be better then the f2.8 versions, though I've not ever handled any of them. I have both an A 24mm f2.8 and a K as well, both sell for three or more times more than the 28mm lenses, I bought them both when they were still relatively inexpensive. If you're looking for sharper, the f3.5 versions are that even wide open, and they are about the same price as their f2.8 brethren. However using an f3.5 manual focus wide angle lens without focusing aids makes critical focus difficult to achieve. I say that from experience as I have a 35mm f3.5 SMC Takumar that while beautifully made, and very sharp, makes looking through any viewfinder very dim, and even dimmer on those cameras actually made for them, it's really best to set hyper-focal distance and aperture on it and shoot that way. Trade-offs, trade-offs, trade-offs. Always a lot to think about. Thanks for giving me places to start, though at the moment the dizziness is such as to make me want to throw up my hands and say, “The A 28/2.8 is good enough.” But as you say, it’s effectively normal, and I’ve definitely experienced occasions on which I would like to have had a little wider field of view. -- Eric Weir Decatur, GA USA eew...@bellsouth.net You keep on learning and learning, and pretty soon you learn something no one has learned before. - Richard Feynman -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- Rob Studdert (Digital Image Studio) Tel: +61-418-166-870 UTC +10 Hours Gmail, eBay, Skype, Twitter, Facebook, Picasa: distudio -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- -bmw -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Pentax has over the years seemed to become the most Japanese of the Japanese camera companies. This camera (K-S1) seems intent on recapturing the smallest, lightest DSLR crown. Lightness seems to be a big thing at Pentax. Unbelievably small-size and light-weight interchangeable lenses that are no burden to carry is one of the 5 reasons to purchase Pentax on the Ricoh Imaging web site: http://www.us.ricoh-imaging.com/products/five_reasons_to_choose_pentax Pentax also seems sensitive to the Japanese love of all things small and also of whimsical colors (particularly typified by the Q line). The thing that nobdy has really talked about is the interesting features seen on the BACK of the camera. It appears to have the first touchscreen LCD in Pentax history. The right side of the LCD looks like the familiar 4-way button. http://www.photographybay.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/pentax_k-s1_b001.jpg Meanwhile the familiar 4-way button has been replaced by a much more complicated button/dial combination. Right-click on it and Remove? http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/help/create-folders.html#delete_folders I would expect removing the folder (and hence the photos) from the Lightroom catalog would also allow it to re-import. Well I was right-clicking on the parent folder and no menu appears. When I just now right-clicked on the also missing child folder I was able to delete that, and so the parent disappeared too. Pentax K-S1
Something midway between the design of the old film K-1000 SLR and the K-30 DSLR, a tilt screen, 24 MP Sensor w/o the Anti Aliasing Filter + the software of the Nikon D5300 should be a strong selling point of Ricoh - Pentax. The K-S1 truly looks like an Ass of a DSLR. Can't say the same about the capability and software as it is still not made available. I do hope the built in flash integration is well implemented, both as a Fill Main Light - Pentax's weak point. I recall my 1978 K-1000 SE (Japan) + the Braun Hobby 23BC Flash gave perfectly exposed photos 94% of the time under almost any condition. Regards. Re: OT Sigma 18-35/1.8
Eric, You should look up the focal length rule. Its generally 1.5/FL = shutter speed minimum for APS-C. SR will give you a couple stops more, but its a good idea to not really count on that if possible. I usually go for just 1/FL and find that pretty sufficient with SR. You'll find with wide lenses (under 28mm) that you can shoot at fairly slow speeds with proper technique. Re: Lightroom Question
Lightroom recognizes any storage volume which is laid out with the DCIM directory structure as a camera or camera card. Re: Lightroom Question
In my experience, it's much more likely that the card had some issue with its file system at that time. It hardly matters, but in every case like this I've examined when I was teaching and doing client support, the issues were never resolved to be a LR fault, they were always something in the card, the camera, the cable, the reader, etc. If LR allowed Move or In Place mode operations, something about the card or in the chain of operations that mounted it did not inform LR that it was a DCIM storage device. It would be interesting to know what that was. :-) Godfrey On Aug 20, 2014, at 1:14 PM, Bruce Walker bruce.wal...@gmail.com wrote: This card came out of a K-5. Lr apparently glitched. I'm expecting that the 4-way controls will select different modes for the row of LEDs. Eg: Rave Mode will use the video mic to turn the LED string into a VU meter that pulses to the music. And Cylon / Knight Rider KITT mode will do that cool back and forth thing. Re: Pentax K-S1
I think it's a soft keys display. When the function mode of the four way controller changes it will display the new functions on the back panel. That makes some sense if those keys are programmable, weather the camera has a touch screen or not. On the other hand if like on all previous Pentas DSLRs there are really only two modes for the four way controller plus menu navigation, I see little point to that display. Maybe it is but the inner ring of the main control dial seems to have the standard 4-way button arrangement. In Lightroom, library mode, grid view, select the files. Then drag them to the folder in the Folders panel you want them to be located in.
