Re: Lightening re-do
Thanks, Bruce. I'm not disagreeing with you, but a halo does not exist for me on the "interface." I can detect a very subtle lighter tone across the horizon behind the trees. I suspect it's at least partially due to the common lighter sky tone seen just above the horizon. In any case, I'm going to allow it to exist undisturbed. Again, your comments are appreciated, Bruce. Re: The brassing will cost you extra.
I have no idea who Lenny Kravitz is, nor do I care to. And there's no way I'd pay that kind of silly money for a cosmetic special edition like this—although I have nothing against it in principle, it's just not worth it to me. But I do think the camera is attractive. If it were a standard finish option, I might go for it just like I'd go for an antiqued chest of drawers or a set of 1960s style living room furniture to complete a particular aesthetic in home decor. I'd use the furniture too, just like I'd use the camera. Such little specials cost Leica practically nothing to produce, net lots of marketing visibility and a little extra cash, and help them keep selling every one of their standard production units. So what's bad about that? It's not like they're taking my money to do it... :-) G -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

This is the kind of human interest photo that used to be the staple of small town newspapers which sadly won't even be reported in the local rag these days. Somebody sculpted a replica of the Great Pyramid in the center of the New Haven Green. http://petapixel.com/2015/02/24/this-leica-m-p-correspondent-edition-was-designed-by-lenny-kravitz/ I think I still have a very well used black Spotmatic body that was part of my first big Takumar kit purchase that has some wonderful brassing on it. (That kit, formerly owned by a doctor in Canada, contained a super rare 1957 Takumar 100mm f3.5 preset and the sale of that to a European collector pushed me down the slippery slope of LBA). I hope I didn't toss it. Need to take some pics of that body. Re: which speedlight mounts for light stands
I've got some generic lightstand mounts and 5/8 studs with 1/4-20 threads on them, so I bought a couple of these: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/764546-REG/Nisha_HTS_D_Deluxe_Mult_Purpose_Hot_Shoe.html They're like the ones John posted, but for a dollar more you get a mail PC plug also. Basically either a 1/4-20 to hot shoe or 5/8 stud to hot shoe adapter? Both Camera stores here in Raleigh carry generic Hot Shoe/Tripod Mount adapters (with PC connector): http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/764588-REG/Nisha_HTS_T_Hot_Shoe_Tripod_Mount.html If you're looking for tilt/swivel adapters, look for metal at the locking screws. I have one of these: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/298709-REG/Impact_3117_Umbrella_Bracket.html The problem with it is that when I unintentionally tightened the lower mounting screw a little too tight and that plastic base split. Now it won't tighten at all. Better is something like this one, which is all metal: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/501169-REG/Westcott_5015_Shoe_Mount_for_Mini.html Which is what I replaced the broken one with. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Reflections on packing for a trip
Carlos - that is correct, I was referring to the new HD 1.4x. I have not done any laboratory bench-tests etc. with this lens + converter so I can’t give definitive answers. I suspect that if you work from a tripod, mirror-up, remote trigger with appropriately high-enough shutter speed, you might see some image degradation from using the converter. Under my normal shooting conditions, hand-held, careful-but-not-obsessive steady shooting, I cannot tell which images were shot with or without the extender attached. And I noticed no impact on focusing speed; I suspect that older cameras with less well developed AF systems might slow a bit due to the reduced light through the extender but not an issue that I noticed with the K-3. In short, my only issue with the HD 1.4x is that they should have given this to us 5-10 years ago. stan On Feb 25, 2015, at 6:22 AM, Carlos R. wrote: > Hi Stan. If I'm not mistaken there are a few on the PDML that have gone this route. I'm not clear on whether BOTH IR-Cut filter and the AA filter is removed as part of the process. With a Canon these are essentially sandwiched together (at least the Canon Digital Rebel XSi (450D), XS (1000D), T1i (500D)& T2i (550D) according to this page: http://dslrmodifications.com/rebelmod450d4.html This page has an illustration (a ways down) of a similar look at the K-5 II and I'm assuming that is similar to the K-01 http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/pentax-k5-ii/pentax-k5-iiA.HTM Those of you that have had Full Spectrum conversion done, do you know what material was used as the clear window in your conversion? If your converted camera has Live View, I'm curious as to whether there is enough light to focus with an IR filter (or some such) in the optical path and using Live View. If that is possible, then I think that the K-01 is an excellent candidate for putting a filter inside the body (no mirror to worry about). I also *just* discovered that you can use the PC/AV OUT on the K-01 like this: http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/138-pentax-k-01/227354-probs-med-k-01-life-view-ext-tv.html#post2420487 That example is using video recording to make its point and I've just sent the poster a question to see if it works with Focus Peaking on still shots as well. If so, I'd like to get an external LCD monitor to aid in focusing for astrophotography. Or maybe just figure out how to hook it up to a laptop? I'm sorta dumb about these adapter questions. >>> >>> -- >>> Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) >>> >>> >>> -- >>> PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List >>> PDML@pdml.net >>> http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net >>> to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and >>> follow the directions. >> >> -- >> PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List >> PDML@pdml.net >> http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net >> to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and >> follow the directions. > > > > -- > Life is too short to put up with bad bokeh. > > -- > PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List > PDML@pdml.net > http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net > to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visi
Re: PESO - Carnival in Venice
That should be labeled a GESO, rather a PESO. That is a fascinating collection of incredible images! Thanks for sharing them all. They are all masterful, but my favorites are 1034, 1058 and 1065. Re: Reflections on packing for a trip
Hi Stan. I suppose that the 1.4 extender you used with your 50-135 is the new HD 1.4 converter. If that's the case, how do you find the resulting IQ and focusing speed of the HD 1.4x + 50-135mm combo? I am mulling the purchase of that converter to use it mainly with the mentioned lens and your first hand experience report would be very valuable.
