The last decent printed manual that came with a camera I bought was the K7. I think the later printed manuals are very poor. I would sooner pay a little more and get a decent printed manual that I can sit down and read, than download it and sit in front of a computer. I've had the pleasure of trying out other manufacturers cameras in recent months and all the high end cameras are (I think) sensibly laid out. The feedback I've had from friends using the K3 is that it is 'OK' for getting to get to know the way around it. I've found every Pentax very straightforward to use; even going from an LX to an *ist D. .Thanks ann. I thought about you and your geological past while I was over there. The twisting and folding of the very stratified limestone rocks is very spectacular indeed. I'm no geologist, so I could be very wrong, but I always thought the Alps were the fault of Italy crashing into France, and the mountains of eastern America the result of Africa colliding with America, which would make them much older than the Alps. I think also that Scotland used to be part of America, gained its independence and floated gently into union with Britain. The river with the waterfall is the Lance, which I think is a tributary of the Verdon. The Verdon has cut the deep gorges, which are the longest and I think deepest in Europe. I've heard that they are also the longest and deepest in the world after the Grand Canyon, but I'm not convinced of that as I've been in the Blue Nile Gorge in Ethiopia and that seems deeper to me. Bizarrely given its spectacular size and dramatic nature the gorge was not really known outside the local area until 1905 - an indication of how unexplored parts of France were until relatively recently. OT - PESO - and and explanation
Here's a PESO I sent last week: http://knarfdummyblog.blogspot.ca/2015/10/shades-of-autumnal-splendor.html?m=1 No one saw it because it was sent from my new phone. I set up K9 but didn't set it to plain text. So I've been responding and commenting to every PESO, from Ken's ice to Bob's French weekend to Marco's soft box to Jack's autumnal scene and wondering why every other commenter was thanked but me. LOL. So I'll go back and comment later. But I will post this photo taken at Etobicoke Creek earlier in the week. The leaves are beautiful this Thanksgiving long weekend - just that nice mix of bright colours with green. Hope this is seen this time and hope you enjoy. Comment if you will. Also ruffians in Rome may think it is just a Lunch Bag and keep off - I had a tryst with one such ruffian in Rome. A small catch though, I sewed 3-loops from nylon webbing aka trouser belt style - one at the bottom and two at the sides. Passed the remainder nylon webbing with 2-eyelets formed by folding over and sewing the ends, thru the 3-loops on the bag. Then attached an old Targus Belt Lug from a Laptop Bag. It took me some 2 Hours of leisure time. Here in Bangalore I could have got it done by a Cobbler with materials for just $ 5 or 6 (or $ 3 by chaps on the road side). Thanks for looking. Regards. Bipin. PS: I am a DIY chap + a master mechanic. I also have a Pro Camera Sling Bag + a Back Pack with rain protection. I have a Fastpack 250 *NOT* the AW, and even though the computer pocket is not really large enough for my 17" laptop, I can still get it in there. The camera gear compartments don't have enough carrying capacity & they're not real convenient for getting stuff in and out. I also have a Mini Trekker AW that has plenty of carrying capacity & my photo gear is really accessible when I need it. But it doesn't have a computer pocket. The almost perfect solution (for me) would be if I could somehow graft the Fastpack 250's computer pocket onto the back of the Mini Trekker AW. -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for. An enjoyable day and now I understand the appeal of superzooms...
Different tools for different purposes... Spent an enjoyable day with my Nikon shooting birding sister. We started the day in a Crane Trust blind before sunrise and ended at Rowe Sanctuary near Gibbon, NE which is a great facility. My sister is amazing at seeing birds where I'm obivious. It was great "exercise" for me and a got a few keepers (but nothing special). We had a pair of coyotes come into frame while shooting Great Blue Herons on the Platte River. Unfortunately, on the opposite shore. A middle morning visit to Fort Kearny turned up little, but good exercise trying to capture fast-moving Ruby Throated Kinglets eating the last elderberries on a bush/tree. Also a single cormorant keeping his distance in the Platte River. Later, on the way to Rowe we had a photogenic posing adult Osprey and an immature Bald Eagle enjoying lunch at the top of a tall power pole. At Rowe we discovered some deluxe blinds on the river and a tall above the trees blind, open to the public (Filed for future use.) We also got a distant shot of a Kingfisher, some black terns and our closest view of a Great Blue Heron in the river. Used multiple techniques (AF, MF, etc.) and learned a lot. I certainly see the appeal of the superzooms like the Nikon P900 with its 2000mm equiv (search YouTube for HD video from it). With the K-3 and an extreme crop I"m only using a fraction of the sensor anyway... plus the lightness of the P900 would be a real plus.Unfortunately, no RAW... JPEG only... but still... -- Life is too short to put up with bad bokeh. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Contact cleaner doesn't help with the K-X shutter button? -p On 10/11/2015 10:31 PM, Larry Colen wrote: My K-5 II just took a very small bump, a few inches to a plastic folding table. While I can put it in MF mode with the switch, and adjust with other buttons and dials, I cannot do anything that requires use of info, menu, or the five way switch. With 140,000+ activations on the shutter, I suspect that the camera is now pretty much spare parts. My K-x still mostly works, but the shutter button is rather flakey. I have a strong suspicion that simply disassembling it, cleaning it, and reassembling it would be sufficient to repair it. Re: An enjoyable day and now I understand the appeal of superzooms...
To finish my thought... my sister and I both had zooms with a 500mm long end. The Nikon Coolpix P900 would bring things 4x as close, with a lot less weight. Nikon sort of blew away the field with the 83x of the P900. Even Nikon Coolpix forum members are getting sick of people raving about it. Anybody have repair/disassembly instructions for a K-x?
My K-5 II just took a very small bump, a few inches to a plastic folding table.
