Re: Lexar SD Card for the K-3f - Lexar SDXC Professional 1000x - 64GB
I always use Lexar cards and have never had this problem, though I should say I don’t use the speed level you state below. I’m assuming you formatted both cards in the K-3. Perhaps they are damaged and you can return them. Sorry this is not much help. KEH.com changed their website once again and it sux.
Yes, that's right I said it. Last time they made a change, I wasn't happy, and used the proffered old style site as long as it was available. This time they're not offering a "classic" view, and this time they really need it. The new design looks good but navigation is just awful. Before one could browse a category, and find things that might be of interest without actually looking for a specific item. The new site makes that much more difficult. I'd take their survey and explain everything that's wrong with their site, but the survey is closed, and they don't even give a link to an e-mail so I could leave constructive criticism. -- I don't want to achieve immortality through my work; I want to achieve immortality through not dying. -- Woody Allen -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I find I have to keep the lens at my eye and aimed toward the target to get any decent shots.. After 20 minutes or so, that lens can get quite heavy.} I’ve had to spend a lot of time sitting outside to get the birds used to me being there again. i had quit shooting when I had to care for my wife 24/7, and the birds forgot me. When I first tried to shoot again, they would scatter upon seeing me and not return. They’re starting to become accustomed to my presence again. All at f5.6, ISO 3200 and shutter speeds form 1/250th to 1/640th. The light wasn’t good, but the temperature was moderate, so I could afford to be patient. It seems odd (with that size difference) that the Nikon is only 60 grams heavier. That would seem to indicate it is made of lighter stuff. Does it have a magnesium frame inside like the Pentax? Re: PESO ~ Tilt
Your original post was pithy and quite satisfactory, and the image is quite attractive and a real attention grabber, not to mention technically superb. Perhaps it is my old physics training coming out, but when I saw the prop, "inclined plane immediately came to mind, and it seemed to me a perfect title for the image, because of the various connotations "Inclined" has relative both to the model and to the viewer (and I presume the photographer). There are levels of meaning [pun intended] in the word inclined, which also brings to mind "recline," "decline" and "supine." It is your image, of course, so the title that occurred to you is the proper one, not the one that occurred to me. Re: big lens, little birds
I can't afford it either :-). And Jack gets great results with his 50-300. I only bought this because I'm going to need it for my car shoots with the full frame camera. (Editors love that pull.) Pixsy.com - Tool for finding your images being used illegally
You may have heard about the photographer discovering that one of his images had been appropriated by ISIS for propaganda purposes. What you may not have paid attention to is the service that alerted him of the violation: Pixsy http://www.pixsy.com/what-to-do-when-isis-steals-your-photo/ I had signed up some time ago for a Pixsy invite but apparently missed it when it came. However today I noticed a reminder email from them and used the invitation. I am very impressed with their algorithm's ability to find where your images are posted. I just fed them my Flickr account and they (very quickly) about 25 pages full of links with my image and the suspected image. There were a lot of images that they found on places where I had posted them (like forum.mflenses.com, pentaxforums.com, etc.) and there were a lot of inexplicable false positives, they also found a good number of actual unauthorized uses by businesses and organizations. What was ESPECIALLY impressive was that their algorithm found my image inside composite images that had been made by the infringer, one case where the infringed usage of the image was somewhat cropped, and another where it was used in a slider graphic and faded out to one side (in otherwords, my image, but modified by the infinger. This was pretty impressive! You can submit a claim with Pixsy and they will negotiate a licensing fee with the infringer and pay the photographer 50%. However, since they are new, I can't find any info on how much those negotitated fees might actually be. So for now, I plan to use Pixsy simply as my "bloodhound" and turn the infringements over to a real copyright/photo attorney. It may be slower, but I don't think attorney's charge THAT much unless they actually go to court, and being attorneys I'll bet they get higher amounts than Pixsy will. (At least two of my infringers are pretty big name web sites). Here is the Pixsy blog: https://www.pixsy.com/blog/ An article from fstoppers from back in March: https://fstoppers.com/business/exclusive-sneak-peek-inside-pixsy-beta-60219 https://www.pixsy.com/sign-up/ In addition to negotiation licenses, you can also quickly issue a DCMA takedown notice using images that Pixsy finds that belong to you.

Re: KEH.com changed their website once again and it sux.
What real difference would it make. They paid a designer to update their site. A complaint from an sometimes customer isn't going to get them to roll it back. I just visited again, and a link to the "classic" site has appeared, that works. So I'll browse using that until it disappears. The sad part is the last update from a few years ago actually made things better for the customer. This seems to be a step backward and sideways. I like this very much, Ken! The angle features nicely the implied motion of the hood ornament! I might like to see a bit more punch to the rendering, but that's just personal preference. PDML in Clerkenwell (London)
We had a fine meet-up with the ever-quotable Bob W. and Chris & Karin Mitchell last night. Started with some nice Belgian ale at a pub noted for its, well, nice Belgian ale, then went to dinner at a sort of hip, fusion restaurant. Earlier in the day, Lisa and I took in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibit at the Natural History Museum. Some amazing photography on display there, as usual. One of the shots in the "Urban" category was of... cormorants! Shockingly, it wasn't taken with a Pentax. How inappropriate. In terms of equipment, I noted that two of the 100 photos in the exhibit were taken on medium format digital, one with a GoPro (in the "Time Lapse" category), one with a Panasonic compact (it was inserted into a carcass to take shots of vultures by remote control!) and all the rest were Canikon variations (about half a dozen APS-C and the rest - the vast majority of the exhibit - full-frame; interestingly, there didn't seem to be any mirrorless cameras represented). I was very curious about how the judging was done, how many judges there were and what criteria they used. With over 42,000 entries this year I expect there must have been some kind of initial filtering before the four main judges chose the 100 winners but no one could tell me the specifics. It also seemed to me that the scientific significance of the images captured must have counted in the judges' ranking as some category winners were clearly not the best from an artistic standpoint, but again no one could clarify that for me. Still a great exhibit. We also visited the Hunterian Museum of fascinating/gruesome medical specimens where Lisa found several misdiagnosed bone tumors (and is setting about getting them corrected, of course). They don't allow photography in there which is a pity because I think it would be fascinating to get pictures of people observing the specimens on display. Today we'll be hitting some more book shops and perhaps another medical museum, followed by a classical concert at St. Martin in the Fields tonight. Then on Sunday we're off to Oxford for the day to meet up with Cotty the soon-to-be hat eater. More later. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: dang 600mm lens
That baby is from the 645 lineup. Having once played with it on the 645D, my brief and shallow impression is that fringing is not an issue on the crop format 645D, and a total non-starter when coupled to a K-mount camera. You'd have a harder time living with the sheer weight of the thing. Jostein Den 2016-01-08 05:47, skrev J.C. O'Connell: fringing would be less of an issue on a ff digital.
