Re: Boris PESO #06 - Haifa Bay
Mark, Thank you for your kind words. I tend to think that this tilted feeling (that I often experience myself) has to do with the fact that this image has two shorelines that are not parallel. So, they kind of grab your attention and since they are not straight and not parallel, they induce this strange feeling. Even more interesting is that when I apply "Auto" lens correction in Lightroom (which normally takes care of all things straight), it produces badly tilted image. So, it seems, you and I are not alone in this confusion. Fascinating indeed. Re: Used Lens Test
Well, I don't know exactly what to tell you. If it were an old style K or A lens I'd say check to make sure the aperture is snappy, and that the focus is smooth,(same with zoom). Take a few shots and make sure the lens is sharp across the frame, at various focal lengths apertures and distances. Look out especially for decrementing, which shows up as one side or the other of the frame being in focus while the other isn't. It can happen in manufacturing and not be caught by quality control, or if the lens has taken a few hard knocks. Other than that I can't tell you. Re: GESO ~ Vintage unmentionables
These nylons, at least the teal ones (blueish) are the real deal. They don't stretch like today's fabrics and like silk have to be carefully pulled on to avoid tearing. Luckily the pair the stylist owns fit our model. On Tue, Feb 16, 2016 at 2:05 PM, P.J. Alling wrote: > Of course nylons are real, and vintage late 40's and early 50's > pre-pantyhose. Interesting image - when I look at it closely I really enjoy the detail, the sense of activity and the lighting. But when I look at the whole frame it has an odd out of balance feeling to it. Mind you, I'm not saying that I could do better, but I find as a theme those shadows distract my attention from other, more pleasing aspects of the photos. Re: GESO ~ Vintage unmentionables
Hey, Larry, thanks! I agree with you re distracting hard edged shadows. As always with my shoots I experiment and push my boundaries. In this shoot I wanted to purposely mix soft and hard light and the risk is that I'd end up with some fishy shadows. It depends on the angle of the light, the pose, and what surface is opposite the subject from the light source. In some shots it was all perfect, but in many I was not so lucky. I tried to arrange the spill from the key hard light to land out of the scene, but not always possible in a small set like we had. But as it happens, this style of lighting is favoured by the fans of this vintage genre, so they won't notice so much. And the better shots were submitted to the mag. Most of them worked out better than these ones did. I learned much from this shoot and I'll be refining my technique for the next, you can be sure. :) On Mon, Feb 15, 2016 at 9:57 PM, Larry Colen wrote: > > > Bruce Walker wrote: >> >> Tiny, full-figured pin-up model Holly Harlott wears vintage bullet >> bras, girdles, real nylons, and other dainties in this fun shoot I did >> last Monday. OT: BACK IN THE FOLD
What a relief. My e-mail problem is resolved - inappropriate spam filters I was told - they worked so well, 99% of mails were blocked. Strangely enough, not from gmail. No indication of how the problem started in the first place at noon last Friday. The annoying thing is that the ISP initially said only I had the problem but today said they were working through all the accounts & resetting the filters. Doug, to be on the safe side I'll only unsub. the other addresses after a couple of days. PESO Ladybug
It was a beautiful sunny day today and things are starting to bloom in the garden. I've got no idea what most of them are, so I got some quick and dirty photos to ask for help identifying them. While I was photographing one flower, I saw a ladybug on the plant and got this photo: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/25036022396/in/album-72157664157515210/ If you want to take a look and help me ID them, the whole set is at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157664157515210 Some of them are Kenilworth Ivy, others may be lupin, there are also some California Bay Laurel aka oregon myrtle. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) http://red4est.com/lrc -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
