Re: PESO and Question about colorspace limitations
Specifically, desaturate in the red since the other colors seem ok. FWIW - I spend time in-camera checking the histogram in RGB specifically to avoid this situation. Kenneth Waller http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/kennethwaller - Original Message - From: "David Mann"Subject: Re: PESO and Question about colorspace limitations Maybe desaturate it a bit to bring it back into gamut? You might even be able to do so selectively on the petals, to avoid stuffing up the rest of the photo. Cheers, Dave On Apr 3, 2016, at 11:41 AM, Igor PDML-StR wrote: What do you do when the destination colorspace does not have the color you need? Let's say you have a photo, you look at the "soft proof" in LR (or in PS), and you see that the "center-piece" color is way out of the destination gamut. For example, I have the photo of this red flower http://42graphy.org/misc/Flower_IR32063.jpg In reality, that red is more toward orange. SRGB color space does not have that color. I see how LR is going to change (you can see the result), and I can change the color mapping (colorimetric or perceptual), but it is still far from the "reality" (or what I think the reality is). I know that in some cases, especially with soft-proofing for printing, adjustments of the curve (often brightening or darkening) can help. Unfortunately, this portion of the gamut seems to be really far away from the SRGB boundary, so small tweaking of highlights and/or shadows, or the saturation or luminance of the red channel alone doesn't help. Is there some trick here that I am missing that could help adjusting the colors, or, essentially the best I can do is just leave with the conversion LR (or PS) does? Previously, I had a similar situation with the carrot-type orange. Any thoughts and suggestions? Also, - in this case, this conversion of the red makes the top petals blend together, and I cannot seem to find the "knob" to enhance the separation. All comments are very welcome! Re: Need help choosing 3 photos (GESO of a sort)
It's the third one for me - more even dispersal of the buds. The second image isn't helped by the top edge having tree trunks included in the LH corner. The third image has a more or less blank foreground missing the even dispersal of floweres in the rest of the image. Thanks for the feedback. The ultimate goal of this shoot was a cover for her next album. I tried to get a variety of styles to give her more to choose from. I'm with Rick on 1 and 4 especially... It is hard to highlight which ones I like on flicker because I can't cut and paste the numbers and I can't remember what they are... If she sings half as good as she looks she should be making a comfortable income :-) She is really quite a marvelous and sweet woman. If you are curious about her music: http://michellechappel.com/music/ For what it's worth, the cover of "shake it up" is one that I took at Don Quixote's in Felton several years ago. Having dealt with Kaspersky professionally (I helped integrate their OEM stuff into my former company's security products, and I dealt with Mr Kaspersky himself), I would recommend that _very_ highly. Super responsive to changing threats and less intrusive than many products. Since you have so many gems, I would strongly suggest dropping a couple that standout to me as not up to your standards - they look like typical photo store portraits - the ones where she is wearing the dark jacket and the lavender topand are not tight closeups especially 30522 - . I'm with Rick on 1 and 4 especially... It is hard to highlight which ones I like on flicker because I can't cut and paste the numbers and I can't remember what they are... If she sings half as good as she looks she should be making a comfortable income :-) ann On 4/4/2016 6:01 PM, Rick Womer wrote: Very nice set! Re: How to fly with a tripod
Darren, I've flown alot with my tripods (all Gitzos & big enough to handle a 600mm lens) & have either carried them onboard & stored in the overhead or shipped them with my clothes in a suitable bag (I've used duffle bags on occasion). Heads attached either way. I should have thought about this long before now, but... I've got a "normal" Manfrotto (good sized) tripod. I'm going to take the 3-way head with. I've got the Manfrotto soft (zippered) case for it. Is that good enough to trust to the gorillas that throw baggage around? I can pack with some bubble wrap in there, if that will help. Alternative suggestions? Thanks in advance. PS... Google-Fu is my superpower. :) The poster you are referring to goes by "zackiedawg" on boards.cruisecritic.com His join date was Sept 2004 and he has 2195 post there. If ThIS post is any indication, one may find out more about his personal life by registering for the site, clicking on his username and selecting "Find all posts by zackiedawg". One doesn't even have to do that to find out that his location is Boca Raton, FL. You see, we have a tendency to use the same username across multiple web sites, so simply Googling "zackiedawg" will give you his member page at dpreview (and with a membership you can find his posting history there where you could glean much more about him, I'm sure). If he's lying about his location, then he's also lying about it on cameralabs.com, and vwvortex.com (which he last visited today at 3:57 PM. (He has 3317 posts there and drives a 2015 Audi Allroad.) His pbase page gives us his actual name. Fortunately for him, his name is sort of generic so you can't just plug in his name and find his address (for free anyway). There are sites where you could buy a membership and get full reports on anybody you want - so a professional criminal could easily get full reports on all of them. Whoever had a 2015 Audi Allroad registered to him would be the dead giveaway. Each site to which someone registers has a Profile page and each profile page can contain additional clues of identity. His VWVortex page says that he is in the Financial/Insurance career. So you google his name, city and "Insurance" for example, and you find his work email and position (which I did). His office is about 15 miles from Boca Raton. His work contact page tells us that he went to Tulane University. But really the only thing you need to nail down an identity from a range of people with the same name in the same town is a middle initial or an age. Whitepages.com will often give you an exact address and even a Google map with a pin for your address. In addition, any of those message boards are potentially places for social engineering to take place. All one would have to do is engage in some forum back-and-forth or a private message to find out whatever small piece of information you need to pin down an exact identity (how old they are or what their middle name is, for example). Once you know where somebody works it is a short hop to knowing when they will be at work (not at home), whether they are married, have kids, etc. All figuring out a good time to break into the house. Shifting was fast, but adding took significantly longer. This meant that. to a first-order approximation, the time to multiply by a number was directly proportional to the number of '1' bits in the binary representation of that number. Booth's algorithm attempts to speed the multiplication process up by reducing the number of addition steps needed. It does this by looking for a string of '1' bits anywhere in the number and handling all of them in two addition steps. To take a very simple example, if it found a string of four '1' bits somewhere in the number ('', in binary, represents the number 15) it would, instead, treat this as if it were "16 - 1"; the "-1" is handled by adding the negative value of the number being multiplied, and the 16 is handled a little later on by one further addition. (16 is a power of two, so only has a single '1' bit in its binary representation) The actual implementation is rather clever, and is again designed for the hardware of the day (where fast register storage was the most expensive part of a computer); it uses the same shift register to hold the multiplier and the eventual product, can produce a double-length product using ony a single-length adder, and only has to look at the two low-order bits of the shift register to decide whether to add the positive or negative representation of the multiplicand, or to do nothing. K-3 II with the FA 77 at f/4.5 https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/25965541630/in/album-7215762839521/ The full set is here: http://www.flickriver.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/7215762839521/ Many thanks to Nicole who did the hardest job, in that while Michelle and I were shooting, she made a couple passes through the photos and narrowed them down to a manageable number for me to go through. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) http://red4est.com/lrc -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: OT: Floppy Brummy
Thanks Bob. Disclosure: I am not a computer people. But that didn’t stop me from messing around with them. Thus I did find this quiet interesting. In particular I was struck by how much I took for granted over the years. As an undergrad, early 60s, I did odd-job data analyses for one of my professors. Using Marchant electronic calculators to do additions and cross-products needed for calculating correlation coefficients. I had no idea I was on the cutting edge! I used old-tech IBM 1401 Accounting Machines which I programmed by moving jumper cables around on a 15-20 pound board that fit into the rack on the end of the machine. Moved on to Job Control Language running early versions of BioMed stat programs on the IMB760. Had no clue that I was using one of the early models of that machine! On to grad school, used the second-ever-built CDC 6500 to process my data while colleagues were running their lab equipment via PDP-8 computers. (IIRC, the Apollo 11 onboard computer was comparable to the PDP-8.) And then the IBM 360 (IIRC) whose boot-up required 2 boxes of cards to initiate/install the OS, then another 2-3 boxes of cards to install the language (FORTRAN or LISP) before we could load programs. Convincing my committee and then the department head and the dean that it was appropriate to substitute FORTRAN for one of my two required foreign language requirements. My early work environment, reading octal coredumps from our CDC 3500 to debug programs designed to capture user input timing... I won’t go on in detail but suffice it to say that your linked story took me on a trip down memory lane. Byte magazine articles debating the relative merits of MS-DOS vs. the other 1-2 popular OS on the market for 8086 machines. Graphic terminals. Smart terminals. PC’s. Osborn laptop. Compaq computers. Color dot matrix printers for which I had to write the print driver. Word Star. Word Perfect. A friend at DARPA explaining the “desktop metaphor” graphic interface work he was supporting at XEROX-PARC. LISP Machines. Sun Workstations. More PC’s. and finally, the light at the end of the tunnel: Macs! Hypertext. DARpa Net and the 3-week wait to be approved as a user and be assigned a name. USEnet. 256kb modems… We have lived in interesting times. stan > On Apr 2, 2016, at 4:41 PM, Bob W-PDMLwrote: > > An interesting article for the computer people on the list: > > http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-35924858 > > B > > -- > PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List > PDML@pdml.net > http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net > to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow > the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

These are the native "apple bananas," Apple bananas are shorter and plumper than regular bananas, with a thicker peel. The flesh is firm and creamy. The flavor and aroma are more intense, with hints of apple or even pineapple and strawberry as it ripens more. They are widely available on Maui, and generally picked when just ripe, making them much tastier and satisfying than bananas picked when green and hard in the Caribbean. Your Christian Brothers were very different from the ones who ran my prep school. Their motto was 'spare the rod and spoil the child'. Ignorant, brutal, superstitious thugs, every single one of them. Awesome St. Patrick Day parade photos Sir. The very colorful dresses makes the event more photogenic. I remember St. Patrick's Day was very special in our Boarding Public School run by the Christian Brothers of Ireland. There would be feasting throughout the day, with our own parades, movies & late night swimming with hot chocolate. Regards. Light brings great photos & happiness, shadows touch the soul. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
