Paul, try some suet - you'll get an entirely different set of birds.

A block of suet and a small wire holder is all you need.

Thanks, Godfrey.

Yes - I'm beginning to think that a straight card reader for the tablet
would be less trouble. The Lunmix isn't used often so it's difficult to
justify the cost compared to the slight inconvenience of the card
reader.

I can't recommend the Eye-Fi cards on the basis of their inconsistent behavior
and unreliability. I went through four of them trying to get them to work in a
couple of different cameras. They never did in a consistent and reliable way.

Other vendors, maybe. I have tried any since my more recent cameras (except the
Leica M-D) have all been WiFi enabled.
For the M-D, I use the Lightning to SD Card Camera Connection cable to move
files to my iPad, which is quite fast if a little less convenient.

Hope you’re ok, Bill! Christine

It's coming along. I noticed late last year that I wasn't seeing things at
distance as well as i was used to, and wrote it off as needing a new
prescription. Then I was thirsty all the time, and over the course of a couple
of weeks my vision went bad enough that something 5 feet away was a blur and
looking at a computer screen was excruciatingly painful.
And it dawned on me that I was probably diabetic, which was the case. I've been
medicating for about a month, and my eyesight is passable, but my blood sugar
is controlled at about 16mg/l, about double what it should be.
I have another blood test on Monday, another doctors visit on Friday, and will
probably have my medication increased.
Something I learned was that the high blood pressure med I was on interfered
with metformine. We got that fixed a week ago, and this week I feel a lot
better than the warm turd I've felt like since the end of January.

Sorry to hear all that, Bill. One of my brothers has T2 diabetes, not nice. It
can apparently be reversed. Here's the science:

Re: OT - Wi-Fi Enabled SD Cards

Hi Brian,

I've done both and card reader is definitely quicker. Eye-fi in the
TG850 means I don't have to open it all the time; its waterproof so I
can transfer while it's wet. With other cameras it's been card reader.

Card reader is definitely cheaper - jaycar is your friend :-)

I'm in two minds about this - might be just as easy to connect a card

Re: Single Malt Scotch. Photography. There's a good combination!

2017-04-17 Thread Paul Stenquist
Lagavulin was once my single malt of choice, but it's now overpriced. I also
find it a bit too sweet. I'm now a fan of Laphroig 10. To my taste it has the
deepest peat flavor and it's reasonably priced. I drink blends as well to save
dollars but prefer single malts. Believe it or not, the Kirkland blend sold at
Costco is very good and all malt. It reminds me of Macallan. Too sweet and no
peat, but good.

Blue Jay are attractive birds, and sometimes interesting to watch, but
their call is annoying, and they make a mess at the bird feeders.

Well, to some of us, single malt scotch is an obvious pairing with just
about everything -- except driving.

Speaking of scotch, anyone here have any comments on Green Label? I
usually stick to single malts, for the usual reasons. I think blending
grain whisky with malts amounts to sacrilege.

In any event, someone who knows I drink scotch gave me a bottle of Green
Label. I tried it over the weekend, and was very pleasantly surprised. It
appears that, unlike Red Label and Black Label, which are blends of malt
and grain whiskies, Green Label is a blend of several single malts While
it lacks the "bite" of the Peat Monsters, I quite enjoyed it.

Since I know there are a few scotch fanatics here, I am interested in what
any of you think of the Green Label blend.

Of course it’s those large scale productions that have made her a wealthy lady.
I would guess she filed somewhere around 500K for that Lincoln Continental job.
She was once an artist, now she’s a businesswoman. More power to her.

I wouldn't say Liebowitzt isn't a fine photographer, she's done some
very good work. That said most of the time she's trying so hard to be
relevant, on one hand and a trend setter on the other, that most people
look and her stuff and say meh.

up a pic of the adult form. This particular one was in some kind of
molting or metamorphosis stage, notice the "old" legs he left behind

No, it opened with the bottom third obscured and a whole lot of headings,

Hi Alan,

Do you mean that the image is too big for your browser? It is sized at
1000 pixels on the longest edge.

The image is slightly cropped as it is, with a bit off the bottom and
right hand side.

I'm not mega happy with it so might revisit it at some point but without
seeing what you saw, impossible to say!
