It's a known issue between Yahoo & Gmail. Yahoo broke something to do with

You can create a filter in Gmail to tell it not to send emails to SPAM.

Create a new contact in Gmail for johnsessoms at yahoo dot com

Re: Lightroom Question

2018-08-11 Thread Jostein

Yes.
The LensTagger plugin presents you with a screen where you can fill in
the relevant data, and save it as a preset.
When you run the command, it is actually executed by another program,
the exiftool by Phil Harvey. Afterwards, you need to update metadata
from file in LR to see the change.

To run the plugin on multiple files, you just select them in the Library
module before starting the plugin. The processing capacity seems to be a
max limit of between 30 and 50 files somewhere.

There was a rear wheel drive Escort! Built and sold overseas in the seventies

In its highest state of tune - with a twin cam four cylinder it was quite a
ride. Some were raced competively in the U S in several series.

It sort of filled the gap left by the Cortine.

Re: Lightroom Question

I have a picture taken with a K5 and this Sigma 10-20mm this name is

When I read its metadata with the little program "PhotoMe", it shows
lens ID: 3 44
When I import this photo into lightroom, the lens is named: "Sigma or
Tamron lens"

Many Sigma lenses have the lens ID "3 44"

My understanding is that LR translates the ID "3 44" into the name
"Sigma or Tamron lens"

LR uses its file "cameraraw.dll" to do this.

When I open this cameraraw file with the little program HxD, I found
the "3 44" and the wording "Sigma or Tamron lens" (find the lens
section by using the search function for "Sigma" or Pentax")
As I have only one Sigma lens in possession with the ID "3 44" , I
changed the wording in the cameraraw file in: "Sigma 10-20mm /4-5.6 EX"
From now on, my pictures taken with this lens, get the correct name at
importing.

I do this in lightroom CC clasic, but did it also in LR5.

In your case: find the lens code of your lens (with PhotoMe or other
program).
In the camera raw file, change the lens ID of a lens that you are not
having or using.
See what name comes out when when importing a picture taken with that
lens.

Change that name in the cameraraw file.
It can take some trial and error the get it right.

Re: Jinxed my Bokina, can it be repaired?

2018-08-11 Thread John Sessoms

I don't think sticky aperture blades would be beyond his competency.

Eric had a look at my Tokina and apparently didn't have any problems getting it
apart & putting it back together. He was not able to fix it because there was a
worn out part that he couldn't get a replacement for.

I've since had another guy take a look at it and while he had it disassembled,
he showed me what part needs to be replaced. The needed part is an "information
brush" quite similar to the one shown in the Pentax F 70-210 link.

https://web.archive.org/web/20110317023023/http://members.shaw.ca/hargravep/70-210.htm

I'm pretty sure the part my lens needs isn't specific to the Pentax lens mount
and a part taken from a lens of the same model in a different mount would work
in my Tokina.

But, if not, the fix shown in the above Disassembly/Repair page suggests I might
be able to fabricate a usable replacement part if I can't find a similar lens to
cannibalize.

On 8/10/2018 14:41, P. J. Alling wrote:

If Eric will fix the Tokina, he'll be doing you a special favor.

He doesn't have manuals on anything but Pentax, so he'll just go deep enough to
fix the immediate problem, he doesn't want to be responsible for destroying your
lens, and I don't blame him.

One drawback of this new elicar lens is that since it has the helicoid to
go to one to one magnification built in, its bulkier and heavier than the
Bokina but built like a tank.

I don't think that the '69 Escort was ever imported to the US.  It was a
replacement for the Ford Anglia and had a cast iron "Kent" motor, same as the
Cortina, pushrod Pinto, and same base as Formula Ford and a bunch of Lotuses of
the time.

I think that you're thinking of the later front wheel drive Escort rather than
the rear wheel drive.

Re: OT: Life's little aggravations

2018-08-11 Thread John Sessoms
I have to log in to my "account" on Verizon's web site & jump through a bunch of
hoops to add the specific phone number to my call blocker. And it only blocks
that specific number, so the next time I get a call from a different number in
their modem pool I have to do it all over again.

Rinse & repeat ...

Blocking robo-calls is even more hassle than the robo-calls themselves.

AND THEN ... after writing this my mouse died. With the mouse sitting still, the
pointer started jumping around the screen, flashing up menus and stuff.

How does an optical mouse with no moving parts wear out?

Fortunately, I have a spare USB mouse from my laptop. I don't know where I'm
going to find a genuine PS2 mouse (not one with a PS2 to USB adapter).

OTOH ...

I managed to get out of the house Friday & do some actual photography. Drove
down to the Outer Banks & photographed the Milky Way behind the Bodie Island Light.

Also found a rattle-snake in the grass when I got there. Big one! I'd
"guesstimate" about 5 foot long. Didn't really want to get close enough to
measure it IYKWIM.

Don't know if the photos I took of it are any better than "snap-shot" grade, but
I'd never before seen a live rattle-snake in the wild. I'll try to have a couple
of PESOs up in a day or so.

One of the local camera clubs I belong to is having a quarterly contest - theme
is "North Carolina Animals in Nature - NOT birds and NOT insects". Maybe I'll
submit one to the contest. Rattle-snake is definitely not a bird or an insect.

be a free service, even for a dumb phone.

I used to have that feature on a couple of different dumb phones, and the music

didn't cost any airtime but put the unwanted caller on hold with horrible
electronic music. Probably didn't bother the machines much but the actual humans

Re: PESO: On Milkweed

2018-08-11 Thread Daniel J. Matyola

I'm glad you were able to find such a great replacement for one of your
