Most importantly the K20D is very frustrating to use, (especially in it's current battered state), and while it's good in a pinch, as a backup, I've been spoiled. Sure a K-3 would be better in some ways, (though I've optomized my current desktop for 16 mb files and don't want to upgrade that too, and I'd probably have to), and this is the best deal I've seen since my K-5II started to flake out. Now I'll have to start saving pennies again. I've bought a number of Bargain items, (as well as a couple of Ex items), from them and have always felt that I got more than I paid for. I've received products from KEH that looked brand new, that were rated bargain. I'm pretty sure that my present K-5II, if it worked reliably, and recorded an image every time the shutter cycled, which it doesn't, would be rated UGLY by KEH. I'm presuming you mean this lens: https://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/smc-pentax-da-50mm-f1.8.html No expertise here, but it appears to be at least as good as the FA-50 f/1.4 on the K-3 (as well as the K10D & K20D). I also tried it out on the K-1 and I can't see any noticeable vignetting. I have the "Crop" function in the K-1 set to *FF* so auto-crop is turned off. I'm getting a full frame image to look at. Re: We've got snow!
Just wanted to check in and let y'all know I'm doing Ok. Safe, snug & warm inside. I haven't been outside to photograph the "snow". It was already looking ragged when I peeked outside my front door yesterday mid-morning, and I didn't see any need to get out in it. -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for. Re: ricoh and precision
That strategy doesn't really work for lenses that have gone flaky though. KEH may not have a lens of the same type you need. Your only hope is to find a good repair shop. Everything I know about KEH suggests their repair service is superior in the same way their rating system for used equipment seems to have become an industry standard. OTOH, sometimes things are beyond economical repair. Sucks when that thing is irreplaceable as well (i.e. my Tokina AT-X Pro 28-70/f2.8 in Pentax Kaf mount.). On 12/9/2018 13:08:15, P. J. Alling wrote: They do, and they charge 3 dollars less than Precision up front. However it's still less expensive to buy a used camera of the same model from them than getting the one you already own repaired, and the purchase will have a longer guarantee. So I ordered a replacement K-5II from KEH
Because,, with a coupon code they sent me today, the Bargain copy was less than $250.00 which makes it considerably less expensive than repair of my current K-5II. They've extended the 6 month warranty, to 1 year until the end of this year. 16mp and it's general functionality, is pretty much sufficient for anything I do. Hopefully this will prove to be the same. Now all I have to do is find someone who want's a K-5II for parts or repair. I'd do the same with the K-20 but it's still mostly functional except for the broken sd card door, and cracked viewfinder lens, (it's quite trippy, when the light is at certain angles, if you know what I mean). -- America wasn't founded so that we could all be better. Re: DA 50mm F1.8
I'm pretty sure they went really cheep, (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), in the design phase, and it's just a modification of the optical design from the old 50 f 1.7 or 55 f 1.8 standard lenses. I can't find an optical formula to compare to confirm that, but it seems to be a better design optically than the M and A f 2.0 lenses, by all accounts. On 12/10/2018 4:56 AM, J.C. I've got mine a few years ago and did a quick comparison to my trusted SMC-M 1.4/50 mm. No discernible difference. Ralf -- Ralf R. Re: Battery Woes
Sorry to hear, John. Muses need timeouts too. Mine has taken a solid sabbatical, btw... Jostein Den 08.12.2018 00:20, skrev John: I have somehow managed to lose my spare D-LI90 batteries. In the meanwhile, I went over to my local Pentax dealer and bought two more. Got them home and discovered one of them was a D-LI109 which won't fit the K-1 or the D-BC90 charger. (Note, I didn't even try to put it on the charger) No problem, Southeastern Camera is only 1.5 miles from my house. So I jumped in the car and headed over to exchange the D-LI109 for a D-LI90. Got home with the correct battery, put it on the charger & the green LED is blinking. The other battery (on the other charger) has a solid green. Check the manual & it says if the LED is blinking to replace the battery. I called Southeastern & he's got another D-LI90 in stock, but I'm not going back there again tonight. I think this is all a symptom of a bigger problem, I've lost my muse. I haven't really felt like getting out with the camera for several months now. If I'd been shooting regularly, I'd know where those other spare batteries had got to, because I'd be using them. Additionally, I had to buy two new SD cards for the K-1 because I had all three cards (Slot 1, Slot 2 & spare in the battery grip) filled up and hadn't downloaded them. Can't shoot with full cards. I did have a spare, unopened 64GB 300x Lexar card I bought during East Coast School in June. I tried to get matching cards, but found out Lexar went out of business. Finally, I looked at a used SMC Pentax-DA 50-200mm F4-5.6 ED WR lens, but looking it up on the internet, it's apparently an APS-C only lens. I didn't notice the vignetting when I looked at the two test shops I took while I was in the in the store, but now that I'm home and looked again, it's pretty obvious and severe. DRAT! He has a pretty good price on it too. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
