Re: Cordoba - Through the Gate

Very posh! Pillars - symbols of wealth & power. Presumably the high
security is necessary? BTW, didn't you need a permit?

Yesterday, AM, I stuck my lens through a palisade fence to photograph a
house for the PUG, only to be challenged by a rather officious lady from
the house next door who threatened me and accused me of all sorts of
things. She immediately 'phoned the owner of the house. When I tried to
explain she said she was not interested. I showed her I had deleted the
image & cleared off.

I uploaded a little video "review" of the old ist D:

"Review" between quotes because I'm not talking specs or anything, nobody

the photos I took.

Planning to do the K10D next and the K5 after that.

Very beautiful - I love that style of architecture. I first saw it up close in
Gibraltar where one of my classmates was the son of the chief minister. I used
to go to their house after school sometimes and it had a very similar

Exotic animals are incredibly rewarding to live with, but take huge amounts of
care. Very few people should even attempt this. I understand better than most
all of the reasons why one shouldn’t have a fox as a pet, even one of the
domesticated ones. That, however, does little to make me immune to their
charms.

2021-07-01 Thread Bob Pdml
Thanks!

It is in fact a GX8, not GX9 as stated originally. It’s built like a brick and
is a similar shape but although it’s not pretty it handles very well and seems
to be very much a photographer’s camera.

There are a few things that it does better than my Olympus EM1 Mk II. In
particular, it uses marked dials rather than the menu or making you look at the
VF or screen for some important stuff, and it has a switch on the body for
controlling focus modes whereas some Olympus lenses have a MF clutch, and for
those that don’t you have to fiddle around awkwardly with things.

Re: PESO: animal portraits with the K-70

2021-07-01 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
I am resending my comments, as I have been advised my earlier email is
being held because it is too long.

I watched an hour-long documentary of the Russian foxes, and how their
behavior was modified to some extent. Fascinating.

They have a few foxes at the Lakota Wolf Sanctuary in Northern New Jersey.
https://www.lakotawolf.com/
The foxes there have been handled by sanctuary personnel for years, but are
still much more shy and wary of humans than the wolves. From the experts
there, and elsewhere, I am firmly convinced that foxes and wolves are
intelligent and fascinating, but are both entirely inappropriate for pets.

I took these with my newly-acquired used LUMIX GX9 and Olympus pancake zoom

The sensor is a bit noisy even at 200ISO, which I suspect is why the previous

Nice gallery, Larry. It shows just how versatile your photography is. I
should probably take a hint!

It’s a small gallery this time around, 15 shots:

There are likely a bunch of other shots just as good, but not really different
enough to be worth including.

Re: The ist D

2021-07-01 Thread Alan C
Enjoyed your photos Juan. Many from your South American safari I think.
My first digital was the K110D (still have it!) which I found myself
using like a sort of digital "film" camera with my old film era lenses.

Hi PDML,

I uploaded a little video "review" of the old ist D:

"Review" between quotes because I'm not talking specs or anything, nobody
should care about that by now. It's more about my history with it and about
the photos I took.

Planning to do the K10D next and the K5 after that.

Comments welcome!

Re: PESO: animal portraits with the K-70

2021-07-01 Thread Alan C
Nice catches Henk. Was the Fox perhaps stalking the deer? Foxes are
quite similar to our Jackals but much prettier.

I think you'll be very happy with the K70. There is a lady in our PENTAX
PHOPTOGRAPHY SA group who bought one about 2 years ago and has had great
success with it from Macro to Tele. It was a replacement for her K3-ii
which fell in the sea!

If you get an Astrotracer, your GPS problem will be solved. When I
remember to put it on it works very well on my K5.

Finally I made the decision to get a new Pentax APS-C camera to attach

There is so much loss in pixels with a crop lens on the K-1, though
I'm happy with the sharpness of the 55-300 PLM.
The new K-3 III has a fixed screen which is a dealbreaker for me,
wheras the KP is already off the shelves here.
So I got the K-70 which is about one third of the price of the K-3 III
and has all the features that I need with the exception of GPS.

This afternoon I went outside to get some first pictures.
It looks as if some animals were waiting to pose for the new K-70.
Both pics at 300 mm are much cropped as I couldn't get closer:

Nice ones Henk!

I like the fox, although it seems sligthly less sharp than the doe …
