When we had a near total eclipse in my bit of the UK a few years ago,

Re: My attempt at car photography!

2017-03-24 Thread Chris Mitchell
Thanks Paul, I was hoping that you'd respond. It was late evening, but
I realise from your point and looking at the shadow cast by the car,
it was probably parked the wrong way round! 90 degrees rotation would
have had the sunlight illuminating the side. Schoolboy error...

If I ever get another chance to have a go I'll bear all of your
suggestions in mind.

Re: Epson P600?

2017-03-20 Thread Chris Mitchell
Christine - I've had one for a year or so and find it excellent. It
does a super job of B as well as colour.

I use a simple workflow - calibrated Mac monitor, Lightroom, pick the
profile for the printer / paper and set it off. I mainly use Epson
Premium Semi Gloss - seems to look a lot like the Ilford Pearl that I
used to use in the darkroom. I've also used Permajet Oyster, a nice
stipple finish paper and am pretty happy with that too. One day I'll
have a go with more exotic papers, but haven't used metallic.

Yes, the inks are not cheap, but I'm more than happy with the results.

Doesn't the X100T have a 35mm equivalent lens? It's 23mm on APS-C. So
still hobbled to that. I side with Cotty here - X20 is a good option.

BBC says "...on 5 September 1966, that the cameras rolled for the

Re: OT but worthy: Any ideas for a camera for a disabled person?

2016-09-02 Thread Chris Mitchell
Thanks Paul and everyone else too. I suspect that's the best option. Any
old DSLR with a kit lens would do. A phone or tablet is problematic as his
hands are unsteady so something with an eye level finder is helpful in that
he can steady it against his face and put on a tripod if necessary.

I like the under water housing idea, but guess that's impractical. A WiFi
enabled camera and tablet remote is good and so is Larry's local kid idea.
I'll pass them all on and let you know how he gets on.

Loads. Here are a few on radio 4:

The Long View - looking at history and it's effect to today's world
The Life Scientific - a physics professor interviewing other scientists
about their life in science
More or Less - looking at how statics are used (mostly abused actually) by

They're also available as podcasts so you can listen at any time. Don't
