Re: Questions: M 50/2.0 - any good?
My first Pentax was a MX with the M-50/1.7 because it was cheaper than the 50/1.4. I had it for almost 20 years. Two years ago I sold my M-50/1.7 and buyed a used M-50/1.4 . It gives - in my eyes - a nicer rendition than the M-50/1.7 which seems to be quite "scientific". Some time ago I purcheased a camera with a M-50/2.0 .Of course I tried the lens, it wasn't bad, but I simply like the M-50/1.4 more. So it had to go. Regards Bernd --- Hi, Stan, The page does look good. One question: Now that each lens has its own page, is there any reason to keep up separate pages of detailed and brief comments? gladness and disappointment
Hi! I just shot an SMC Pentax-F Zoom 70-210 mm from ebay. I was surprised and glad that it arrived yesterday. Just in time for Whitsuntide - time to try it out. But the disappointment followed when I unwrapped it: it had fine hairs of fungus on an inner lens, wonderful enlarged by the front lens. Don't know how to open such a zoom. The lens was described on ebay as to be optically and mechanically very good. So I mailed to the seller and he will take it back. Have to wait for the next one ... (sigh) Question: Would there have been a real chance to clean the fungus out or is it possible that he leaves traces on the lens surface? And what's about losing the adjustment in such an intervention? Best regards Bernd - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. RE: Website Update
I really enjoyed your new styled website! The pictures are very nice, but they take long to be loaded although I have a quick connection (DSL). Do you use jpg format with 100% quality? Regards Bernd original meesage- Date: Wed, 24 Apr 2002 00:53:53 -0400 From: Mark Cassino <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Website Update Earlier this month I did a complete re-write of my website, and last night moved the project a little nearer to completion by adding a couple more galleries. I really tightened up on the rather ramshackle nature of the earlier site, and have been more vigorous in editing images and have greatly reduced the number of photos, hopefully showing just the best of each category. I still have one more gallery to add - general wildlife images (mostly squirrels, frogs, and a few deer) but otherwise the page is pretty complete. Except for a handful of images shot with a CP990, everything is done with Pentax gear. So - take a look. I'd appreciate any feedback about the layout and content. What is the most quiet body?
Lately David Brooks wrote: " ... Super Program ...is a lot noisier than my K1000 or Spotties..." and Ken Archer "...Super Program. There was so much mirror slap and shutter noise that I replaced the mirror pad which was about gone and the light seals. That didn't help. Compared to my ME Supers and Spotmatics, the Super Program is a real "klunker", at least that is what it sounds like. You lose stealth mode after the first shot." I just caught a P30t on ebay and used it first yesterday. The noise is ugly. Making photos of people in front of the railway station I feared someone would mention it, feel disturbed by me taking photos -probably of him- and snatch it off. I mentioned the K1000 is quite loud, too. My MX (I don't own any more) had a nicer noise. The MZ-5N makes some sound because of the motor. I have never used any other camera body. Which camera body would you recommend for doing rather quiet work? Regards Bernd - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. RE: Your desert-island kit?
That's not easy The last 20 years my MX + M28/2.8 + M100/2.8 have been my most used equipment. Now in a process of having replaced the MX with the MZ-5N and buying some new lenses I think it could be the MZ-5N + 77mm/1.8 lim. (If I could I would srew back to MX + 77mm/1.8 lim.) Regards Bernd --original message-- Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 12:09:53 -0400 From: "Mark Erickson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Your desert-island kit? Ok, here's a new question for you on this bright and happy Monday. Say you have to pare your camera gear down to one body and one fixed-focal-length lens for the next couple of years. The body and lens to come from your current gear selection. What will it be, and why? I'll go first: My MZ-S and SMC-A 50mm F2.8 Macro. Why? I love the MZ-S user interface. The 50 is wide enough for at least some people shots, works well as a landscape lens, and is a reasonable macro lens. I'll miss a telephoto lens, but this setup covers most of my productive shooting. --Mark - - - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. In january my wife bought a Pentax optio 430 (from her own money). So I thought it would be the right time to spend my money for the 77mm limited the PDML had me made lust after. non-pentax normal lens f=1.2
Hello and HappyEaster! Does anyone know whether the REVUENON 55/1.2 does a suitable quality at f=1.2? The seller in the ebay-item believes the lens was made by Ricoh or Cosina - is it true? RE: Unenable me, please!
When I first thought about what lenses I would like to have I read in some CANON-magazines (for I could get them for no money - that was 25 years ago) and found a report of someone only using a 20mm, 100mm and 200mm lens. At that time I bought three other lenses to complete my stuff. For a very long time I only had 28 - 50 - 100 - 200, just four lenses and I believed to be happy. Then, last year - I went to read the mails of PDML... Now I am getting more and more lenses ... But deep inside there is a little voice that says: You don't need so much stuff but you have to go out and do nice pictures! Regards Bernd (PS: I don't want to miss my FA 24/2.0 and my very new 77/1.8 limited!!!) Date: Mon, 25 Mar 2002 13:45:03 -0500 From: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Unenable me, please! To streamline my gear, I've been shedding lenses and accessories until I have essentially nothing more to shed. Today I sent off my SMC 24/2.8K and my 1.4X-L. That leaves me with 4 bodies, 10 primes (16 fisheye, 20, 28, 35, two 50s, 105 macro, 135, 200, 400), and 1 zoom (a 90-180 1:2 macro). I have one flash, which works on my three TTL bodies. I have no teleconverters. I've decided that I like seeing the aperture in the viewfinder of my KX and XR-P, and I'd have to give that up with a TC. Two bodies have a 2X flip-up magnifier. I wouldn't mind two more 2Xs. I have two cheap ($60-range) Yashica rangefinders. I have a lightweight tripod and a serious tripod, each with a decent head. I have a heavy-duty monopod with a fine head. I have a single quick-release system across all my gear. All that I could conceivably sell is the Refconverter A, since I'll be using my KX for any tripod macro work. I could sell the Kiron 105 macro, but that would leave a big hole between 50 and 135. Anyway, I find myself still scouring the Web for deals on holes in my lineup, real or imagined. I've decided I don't need an 8mm circular fisheye. But I still have no 300. Or a practical zoom, like the Ricoh 28-100/4 that just got away--something to take to the fair or amusement park. Driving in to work today, I heard an ad for a site called Choose to Save. It made me realize how discretionary all these new purchases are, and how I've neglected savings and other family obligations to acquire each "just this once" find. Maybe my wife is wrong that I should get by with just one body and one lens. But Surely I already own an embarrassment of riches. Do I really need a 300/4 or 4.5? Of course not. It's too dim for indoor use anyway, and right now my girls aren't into outdoor team sports. Of course, they probably will be in a year or two, and the 300 I want is scarce but available now. I have no trouble resisting items that are readily available. It's the elusive, buy-me-now-or-lose-me-forever deals that I find hard to pass up. And while forever may be an exaggeration, I can name you a handful of lenses that come around less often than once a year, in all my 100+ links. Hi! While thinking over M80-200 ore F70-210 Zoom I looked for an article from 'photomagazin' 04/99 in the library two days ago. SMC-M 80-200/4.5 vs F 70-210/4-5.6
Hi! I just found a Pentax zoom F 70-210/4-5.6 on german ebay. But I have already a Pentax SMC-M 80-200/4.5 (version 2) I bought last summer. It has nice color rendition but it seems to be not very useful for handheld photos with relative long shutter speeds. And it is so long that my case almost cannot be closed. On bdimitrov-page I noticed that the F 70-210/4-5.6 is only two thirds of the barrel-length. Now I cannot decide: Should I get rid off the M 80-200 and bid for the F 70-210? I would like to know: 1. Is the F 70-210/4.5-5.6 as good or better in optical qualitiy as the M 80-200/4.5 ? (The statements on Stan's page don't allow me to compare the two zooms). 2. How good is manual focusing on the F 70-210/4.5-5.6 ? 3. Is the F 70-210/4.5-5.6 easier to hand held? Please can you help me to anwer these questions or do some recommendation? MZ-5n -- AutoBracketing?
> 6 : What are the ponderation that the multizone metering system uses and > where are the zones that are measured ? Your manual should contain the pattern of the matrix segments. A complete list of the ponderation you mentioned knows the Asahi Opt. Co., I guess:) The camera should recognize backlight scenes and bright skies for example and compensate for them. It doesn't compensate for the scenes that have large bright or dark areas - it acts in accordance with the 18% gray rule. Therefore the exposure compensation is necessary in such cases. In case of doubts - bracket the exposure. Fortunately you get the easy-to- use AutoBracketing feature with the MZ-5n... Hi Artur, would you like to explain "bracketing" and 18%-rule and "AutoBracketing feature", please?! I suppose there is something I should know because it seemed difficult to me making pics with super-wide-angle-lens and getting low and high light not turning into black and white without tonality. First I thought there would be something wrong as the camera did not trigger using an MF lens. But then I realized I had not hit the right distance the camera expected. Re: Why do you choose or stay in Pentax ?
My first Camera was an Exa Ia, when I joined a "Foto AG" in school (13 years old). I thought of an Agfa non-SLR and my parents and I went off the store with the Exa. After all an SLR! Seven years later I had the money to buy a better camera: the MX. I went into the store thinking of Minolta and got out with a Pentax. Never heard before. But was a nice little thing looking better than Minolta. And I never regretted it! Two years ago I sold the MX to my cousin whos MX made difficulties transporting more than 20 pictures. At this time I had had my MX repaired by Pentax in Hamburg -misfunction of the trigger- and they had changed the bayonet, too (I didn't think it was necessary but they repaired all they could find). It was somewhat heavy to change lenses then. And my cousin only has two lenses and changes seldom so it doesn't matter. In the meantime I had bought the MZ-5N and it feels better in my hand than the MX. And if I want the feeling of metal I go back to my K1000 I chased for a low price in the nineties as reserve. And I never want to change because I am totally satisfied with Pentax using old and new lenses how I want! Bernd - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: FA 28-70 f/4
To have a constant 4.0 can be an advantage when you use an old non-computer-flash (like I do). So I don't have to think twice on controlling the aperture while changing the focal length. Taking pictures on a wedding for example would be enervating otherwise. Best regards Bernd Date: Mon, 28 Jan 2002 21:55:36 -0600 From: "Gary Murphy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: FA 28-70 f/4 I recently acquired the above lens and would like to ask what may be one of those "stupid" questions. I know this lens uses the diaphragm to keep the constant f/4 aperture and was noticing it looks as though if Pentax would have kept it in the full-open position, it would be a f/2.8-f/4. (Or really close to that) My question is, why did Pentax choose to use the diaphragm to have a constant f/4 lens rather than a f/2.8-f/4, which they could, I think, sold for a higher price, or am I missing something?
