RE: Maybe I need a digi...
When My older sister came home for christmas that is the camera she brought. I admit to much camera envy. Well that is untill she could not get Sami's purple outfit to be purple for well over 2hrs. And then she couldn't... well maybe I should say that my pentax outfit was a much nicer set up in the end. I was proud to say I had a pentax. She put her camera away and borrowed mine for the weekend. :) A photographer sitting next to me had a D2X and was machinegunning it whenever a rider showed up, then used the time between riders to edit. It seemed like a nice piece of kit. I admit to feeling a certain amount of gear-envy.
posted two pictures from my digital camera.
I took my camera's for a little walk today. I used film and Digital. The film is still in the camera because I did not take a whole role of it today. The digital is of course burned to a cd and put in a case so I will always have it. :). I posted two pictures. Please give me comments. I would really like to improve my photography. http://www.fotocommunity.com/pc/pc/channel/50/extra/new/display/4819298 http://www.fotocommunity.com/pc/pc/channel/52/extra/new/display/4819300 thank you sandy
Re: posted two pictures from my digital camera.
It is not the camera, or lens. I shot 102 picts yesterday and that was the only one with the line across it. The camera is the *ist Ds. The lens is my Pentax 100 macro that I got in 1998. I did not use a tripod on the fence line picture. A tripod was just not possible on that hillside. I actually have a shot of the maple leaf that is framed better. The background is, in my opinion, to cluttered however. I will do some cropping to the maple and see what I come up with. Thank you all for your comments. I will try again. sandy http://www.fotocommunity.com/pc/pc/channel/50/extra/new/display/4819298 http://www.fotocommunity.com/pc/pc/channel/52/extra/new/display/4819300 thank you sandy === I am not sure what digital camera you are using, so I am making assumptions... Your digicam may not be up to doing good macro shoots, both have funny blurring like there is sun on the lens or hand shake or something. The DOF is not consistent across the film plane (sensor plane) and I, personally, have only seen that in my shots with a really bad lens. So you need a DSLR and probably use a tripod to get some good close-ups/macros. And a good lens. You're there (in picking out interesting things to shoot and composing) but your equipment definitely isn't. HTH, Marnie aka Doe

Re: posted two pictures from my digital camera.
please do not refrain from commenting. I posted them because I wanted honest reviews. This is the only way right now that I have to improve myself. I believe I was on manual focus. (maybe I need glasses, I am after all 30) :) My maple is the new one. I think I like it better it seems to come from somewhere. I do know that I had my camera set wrong. I couldn't figure out how to make it shoot on anything but auto on the f-stop. I think I figured out what I was doing wrong on that last night. I didn't have time to try it yet. The other thing I am noticing is they all looked very different on my laptop then they do on the desktop. They look totally different on the 52in tv also. When I put the first fence picture in the laptop there is no distortion of color on the leaves. I think i may need to make my monitors the same somehow. Anyway just a few thoughts from me. Please tell me all of you opinions. Nothing in Barb 4 is quite in focus. The visual preference for most (not all) is that something in a macro shot be in focus. Personally, I've discovered I can only do macros with manual focus, otherwise AF focuses on an area I don't want. Should I shut up? I stand corrected re your camera and lenses. My Maple isn't bad. (Is that the new one?) But I'd prefer greater DOF for more of it. Anyway, you're getting there, but, if it were me, I'd try a tripod and taking more time. HTH, Marnie

Hi Lasse. Yes, I am the previous jeepgirl that you remember. Sandy, Sandra, Sam, Jeepgirl, BooBoo, Blubicon, any of the above or version there of is ok with me. I am mostly Sandy though. Sami is mine. She is such a precious bundle of joy. I don't see how I can think about her and hate anything at the same time. Your caption describes her perfectly. It is so very cold out today and she brought me her coat and cried because I said it was to cold to go out. In the end she won. We call the coat she was wearing a Serpa coat. I am not sure if that was the correct name for it or not. I bought it at a store in St. Louis called Children's place. I have given up on being unsafe. I such a precious cargo to carry with me now. I tend to get crabby with unsafe drivers. :) Yes the horrid sailboat picture was mine. I have given up on filters for now. I posted a new picture. http://www.fotocommunity.com/pc/pc/mypics/698154 Hi there, jeepgirl! (or Sandra, if you prefer). I guess Sami is your own girl(?). Congratulations! I immediately read the caption "Hello world! I'm here and I'm getting ready for you! :-)". Great picture, which brings a smile to every viewer. Btw. what do you call exactly that kind of coat? Also, I looked at the other pictures. I like them because you are picking subjects that are simple and plain, yet in a way that not everyone does. (I still clearly recall one of your very first submissions to the PUG (God, I hope I don't get you mixed up with somebody else... :-) ) when you still had to go over to your mom's to get it scanned - a photo of a sailing(?) boat/ship, a murky undefined yellowish/brownish picture that didn't even look like a photo. (Maybe that's exactly why I remember it so well, along with a few other pictures that I also liked.) I thought you had a mind of your own and I liked the pictures I saw.) You were asking for comments, the only thing I'd like to say is - go out and shoot a lot more, just the way you like it yourself, without thinking about how "a good picture" is supposed to look like. Then tell us when you've uploaded them. If anything I could also encourage you to be daring, not always putting the subject in the center of the picture, look for depths into the picture. Are you still making local roads unsafe and go shooting heads of snakes? :-) Thanks, Lasse

Now I am looking at an empty in-box. A wonderful feeling. May I ask for a moment of list silence to let me celebrate the event? ;-) Another way of celebrating is to comment the pugs. My favourites and almost favourites are: " I que es la veritat? " by Lucas Rijnders. At first glanse this did say much. When I notice the line that stands out, it changes. A pleasant image. " MBD " by Patrick Rendulic. I guess there are some message here. Sorry, it does not reach me. " Ripples " by Henk Terhell. Really like this one. The perspective is perfect. Myself may have ruined this using a wide angle, you didn't. My only nit is about the top. There are some ripples that just starts, that annoyes me a bit. Cropping of tiny bit would have improved it. " Field " by Jens Bladt. This is one of your best shots Jens. Simple and well done. " Dew " by Dag Thrane. The idea is good, but something is missing. Something about the composition makes it fall apart. " Metal Landscape " by Gianfranco Irlanda. Interesting approach on a daily life item. Well executed. " Gords " by Bob Sullivan. Well seen. A funny picture. I'm not convinced about the framing. Something tells me you had other options that would have given a better composition. " Green Light " by Francis. Interesting use of colours. Good light. " Pine Ball " by Sandy Hermann. Well seen. Like the background. I'm not to happy with the centred composition. " Anti Pattern " by Boris Liberman. I like the title. " Webs " by Catherine Wilson. Good idea. I wish it was sharper. " Marshal St, Scottsdale, Az " by Ann Sanfedele. One more time Ann show us a very good eye for lines. The moon (or whatever it is) makes this little extra. Think I'll stop here, I feel a bit negative. More to come, I hope. Tim

None are super sharp, but some are a tad sharper than others. I may throw up a jellyfish gallery next week. The have a tad more impact when taken together, and they would also probably display well on that way too. Say, a group of four or so. 1600, 50mm, 2.8, about 1/15 of a second, and accidentally shot JPG rather than RAW (because the no flash setting on my camera did that without my awareness of it) This is not the sharpest, not the worse, not the best, but I liked the juxtaposition of the two. RE: Local Gas Prices
In the St. Louis area: When I filled up the Liberty tues evening regular was 2.76 and diesel was 2.75. When I put midgrade in my mothers Cirrus I think I pd around 2.86. that was Wed. I could be off on that one. I knew I had to have fuel to get back home I really didn't wanna walk the 20 miles between Fenton, MO and Columbia IL. On average I use about 14 gallons of Diesel a week running my libby back and forth to work. This averages out to around $40 a week. All of this to build trucks. The really scary thing about this is I worked last week for 72.9 hrs building Dodge Ram trucks. Most of them Hemi's. A few Diesels and a few "farm" trucks. This week we are running only 10 hrs a day again. As far as the whole shipping concept we are talking about Chrysler has 3 truck plants. One in Mexico, one in Detroit, and one here in St. Louis. The majority of the trucks we are building this week have had Mexico or Canada shipping labels on them. Wouldn't you think a company of there size could figure out that Detroit was closer to Canada and that well Mexico was Mexcio? enough of my ranting. Re: A reflection on digital camera use.
I agree. Mom always told me love was a fickle thing. :) I do love my digital. I suppose it is not its fault I haven't used it enough to beome familiar with it. I think that maybe this summer Sami will be old enoughthat we can go out together and I can start teaching her about nature and we can take pictures together. I don't take the time anymore that I used to. I used to take the top off on my jeep and put my camera gear into the seat beside me and drive for hours and take pictures of the things that I saw that I wanted to always remember. I had a friend that would sometimes drive and we would chat and eat a picnic lunch It was exremely relaxing and enjoyable. I guess maybe I should hire a babysitter and spend a day with the camera and see what I decide then. I have ventured into a new type of photography since I got the digital camera though. I took about 3 family portraits for friends around christmas. I take pictures of all the baptisims and baby dedications at church. Seriously, digital has been very good to me, and my results are generally better than they were with film. But I haven't changed the way I approach the task. I still shoot as though I don't have a frame to spare and work at least as carefully as I did with film. Consequently, the changes that digital has brought to my work are good ones. Specifically, the ability to see results and make adjustment when possible and the opportunity to fine tune a RAW image for printing. Life is good. I'm in love. Let me introduce myself... and a PESO
Hi! My name is Sandy or jeepgirl. I have been lurking for awhile, but apparently my setting was wrong in my email so I couldn't post. (Thanks Doug) Pentax and I have been friends since Dec of 1995. Hopefully I have improved a lot since then. I shoot for stress relief. I am currently unemployed and have some extra time on my hands so I thought I would get back in touch with some of my favorite people. I hope life is treating you all well! For my PESO check out: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_LBVQqSnxnVs/SuTFA-InhVI/CbQ/5jg3p3PN0sY/s1600-h/1.jpg The whole blog is open and only shot that I have taken recently. I have more stuff on Facebook, but it seems to get mixed in with life pictures. Tell me what you think! Talk to you all again soon Jeepgirl Help me support Autism research! Re: Let me introduce myself... and a PESO
I'm not sure that the shooting is actually stress relief, but the walking around enjoying nature is... Of course, photoshop blows all the stress relief out of the water when I am done shooting though. I got a new mac last month though and it seems to be better at editing my work though, so maybe it will be fun again. Help me support Autism research! You all really posted that much about me? LOL I'm flattered... Yes it was from an airplane. My baby girl flashed her eyes at some guy and got us an airplane ride. I would have loved to have had a different Lens. I had no idea we were going to fly. That was with my 18-55mm lens. I was so nervous I thought I was going to be ill. LOL. The guy let me fly the plane and wow now I just have to do it again. LOL. Jeepgirl Help me support Autism research! I (thankfully) have no direct connection to autism. It is horrible to see though. I have been walking for 4 yrs now... Volunteered at the walk for the last 2. Last year I was in the photography side of the volunteer part, this year the Kitchen. About 10 weeks ago I started on my masters in Special Education, with a minor in Autism. Re: Let me introduce myself... and a PESO
A lady I worked with before my job closed down had an autistic grandson. One night she made 50 brownies and sold them for 30 bucks to raise money for autism. Made me MD. So I told her to make some more. Went home that night studied up on autism and said to myself oh my god, This is worse than any sickness I have ever seen. I went in the next night and raised over 200 bucks for her team. It went from there. Now that chrysler hit the rocks I am going to school to be a special education teacher. Re: OT PC Surgery
There is also the argument that a mac last for many more years than a pc. They told me that overall my mac would last approx. 6 years. I may need to eventually get an external hard drive but the equipment part will last. When my dad figured out how much it costs and how many years it will last it was approx. 75 cents per day to own the machine... The guy at the mac store told me the same thing. I asked why I couldn't just pay him 75 cents per day as long as the machine worked. He really didn't take well to that idea. Help me support Autism research! any quick advice for halloween shots ?
This will be my first year to be able to trick or treat. Seeing as I have worked nights since 1995 I have never done much dark photography. Any tips? Sami is wearing a pink princess costume. Should I take a tripod or would that be to much of a hassle? I have a flash. Would that ruin the "moment"? I hate trick or treating always have I really don't want to go, so I have to take the camera. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Thanks. I am trying to make it look "real" I've come close, but I have never pulled it off yet. I guess when you are playing with plastic, you don't have a good chance for realism. Peso: orange and yellow flower.
The world around me seems to be rather dreary so I thought maybe I could cheer it up a bit. :) http://samsphotopage.blogspot.com/2009/11/orange-and-yellow-flower.html I think this picture may be sharp in all the wrong places. I'm posting it to see if you agree with me. I think the middle part of the flower should have been sharper, although I like the yellow part the best. sandy Help me support Autism research!
