I have not yet considered a MTF but I will look into them. I looked
however into the Sony NEX series and in the Nikon 1 today. Way too
many options to consider.

Those tilting backscreens are looking very useful to me.

K-50/500 vs. Q7 vs. MX-1

2013-11-06 Thread Thomas Bohn
Since I want to sell most of my equipment I'm starting to think if an
DSLR is really the right fit for me.

K-50/500 has the advantage that I can still use my old nice 35mm lens
and do photos like the last five years w/o much change. But it is as
bulky as before and I won't just take it with me.

The Q7 would be smaller, much smaller, I could just take it with
wherever I go and it had interchangeable lenses so it would really
like an DLSR but much more compact.

The MX-1 would be compact and has really nice design, no
interchangeable lenses but a tilling back display.

All three can produce DNG files, all three will make nice photos I can
put on the web, all three will really fit my needs. The only one who
would like a bigger camera might be my big hands.

I'm selling my K-m and Metz 48

2013-11-06 Thread Thomas Bohn
I want to sell my current K-m camera and my Metz 48 flash. Does anyone
know a site in Germany where I can do that, besides ebay?

Also what a good price would be, currently I'm setting the price for
the K-m at 210 euros and for the flash 150 euros. Incl. two sets of
Eneloop batteries for both.

The camera is five years old but only has made ~6000 photos during
that time. I didn't use the flash often, a reason why I want to sell
it now.

I'm in Germany. I looked at Amazon, which had the camera and a few lenses. And
TeKaDe, which is a nice Pentax shop, where I got my current camera from. They
only have a kit for the Ricoh GXR.

There used to be also a shop called 1000 Töpfe but it closed a while ago. That

Th GXR looks nice but there are either cheap kits (250 to 270 euros) or
expensive lenses for 500 euros and more.

The K-01 would be an alternative if it were not for the weird design of the
camera (300 euros for the body).

New camera

2013-06-21 Thread Thomas Bohn
Hello,

currently I use an K-m, which is nice but the auto focus of that camera is
annoying. So I think it is time to think about something new.

For me there are a few options.

1st, I get the new K-500, which should be a nice upgrade to my K-m. And should
be cheap to get.

2nd, I get an K-50, has some enhancements to the K-500 like an electronic level
but it is more expensive.

3rd, I get a K-30, it should be cheaper now and the difference to the K-50
seems minimal for my taste.

My plan is actually to get rid of most of my equipment, I have not used my
flash for while, I don't use my Kit lense and only my tripod is sometimes
useful.

So I really just need a body to go with my 35 mm prime lense.

What do you think?

Well, it is just an incredible model. Many parts can be 100 % correct,
because that would make them either to big or too small for such a

Moin,

Thank you for all your advice and comments. I really appreciate it. As
I said, I downloaded the trial version of Aperture and I will test it,
so far I like the concept and die ideas of it. I also read texts about
people who went back to iPhoto.

And then I realized why I need something different. When I sorted my
photos just on my file system, I didn't sorted them chronologically
but mostly after the general theme of the photos. For example places,
events, friends or family. Something I can't really do in iPhoto. I
could do it on the file system but this wouldn't be visible in iPhoto.

I don't know if I will try Lightroom, too. So, I'm happy to have found
something which could replace iPhoto. :-)

Hello or Moin,

I'm wondering about my photo workflow on my Mac recently. So I
downloaded the Aperture Trial to see wether the software works for me
or not.

Since I'm still importing my iPhoto database I can't tell much it yet.
But I begin to wonder if I really need the power of Aperture now, on
the other hand I already saw some feature I already missed in iPhoto.

For example iPhoto offers just one option for a general improvement of
a photo, which isn't always right.

So basicly iPhoto means for me, to stuck at a certain level and
Aperture would mean a lot of feature which I might need or want in the
future.

I hope for some advice and some ideas, maybe even other software I

It is kinda weird when you think about it. I had a short term blackout
today. From about 1:30 to 2:00 am in the morning the power went out in
the entire town because of the defect at the local electrical
substation.

I think everybody was worried about it because no one knew what will
happend next on the day before I was reading an article about that
Germany is not well prepared for a long term blackout (long term
meaning several weeks).

The weird thing is, in those moments you really realize how depended
you are on electricity, the internet and communication. Which all
would not work with out energy.

So I'm glad that you are okay. I hope the power will be restored soon.

Syncing works through Google Contacts very nicely. The problem was an

Canon and Nikon are not small companies but if they fall behind, they

OT: FTP-server client that can show thumbnails

2009-07-10 Thread Thomas Bohn

Hi Jens,

I could think of one solution, but this one would only work on Mac and
Linux, no idea about Windows.

It is the combination of MacFUSE or simply FUSE and MacFusion which
is basicly an GUI for an FTP "plugin" for FUSE. So you can use the
Finder, Nautilus or Dolphin to access the FTP server.

But I think it would be even more simple to just build an web server
as well, and let them look at the pictures in their browser. It is
simpler than you think.
