She has been thrilled so far with every new facet I introduce her to. The PDML

Congratulations Scott,

I only brought my two road bikes up north with me. The one I left behind is
the track bike. Somehow I figured that it was better suited to the flat

I have restored a few bikes for friends over the years. I have worked on
Dia-Compe brakes like those and Simplex derailleurs. I enjoy dealing with the
older mechanical bits of bikes.

Awesome news Dave,

That is one thing I missed since I have not gone to the rodeo in a few years -
and that is the barrel racing. A former racer introduced me to it and she was
thrilled with the photos I got from those races. I used my 77 for those. I
could not do it that well had I stood by the fence - which I did for some shots.
I must remember to attend one of those rodeos when I get back down to Florida.
It was put on behind the largest Western wear store in the area.

Just found out, that the two big shows i lost to that company last
year, with arms of shooters and imacs, i now have back.

I knew a while back i might get them but Liz just called and its comfirmed.

They had a lot of complaints about him, his rude manner and spooking
horses on course, so, Mr good guy is back in the saddle.

Thats going to help for extra cash this summer.

I also offered my services to a farm north of me that does pen riding
barel races etc all summer long and they would like me to covber that.

See, if you can hold on, things will be better.

As for myself, I have not been shooting much though I am headed up to NYC for
the weekend and may take a few snapshots. I did take quite a few shots at the
baseball Washington Nationals last preseason game this past weekend.
I have been contemplating taking the 645n and 67 out for a spin one weekend
here in Baltimore. One problem I have is the one place that I found to develop
bw and 120/220 film does not compare to my place back in Florida. I may have

Those are the oddest U/W housings I've ever seen...

 and from the website http://www.splwaterhousings.com/index.html

Splash housing means our housing are for shallow water not for diving.
We rate them for 15-20ft max.

 Not very useful IMO.

I have a couple of friends who Scuba dive. After 20 or so feet of depth,
equipment requirements for both cameras and diving get more stringent.
Anything past about 20 feet, you are needing a fairly powerful strobe to cut
through the murk, and this presumes a clear water dive. These housings are
built for tourist divers who want to play around in coral reefs and the
like.

William Robb

But we did get our hopes up with this one. Pentax cameras are probably the
hardest cameras to try to shoot with underwater.
This is why I have a complete Nikonos system. I would have loved to have the
chance to use my DSLR. With the Nikonos rangefinder it is with practice that
one gets the focusing right and gets the picture. I am still learning and it
is still frustrating.

But, it does not matter much to me, I still do not have a K10D. I was waiting
for its arrival at my 'local' photo store back in Florida. Meanwhile,
surprisingly, my *istD continues to take shots though it is obsolete :-)

I understand what they are built for, but based on how they are made, I
bet they are going to cost more than the K10D. Your average tourist
snorkeler (it's free diving, man! :-) ) is better off with a EWA Marine
plastic bag for a fraction of the cost.

Now that the long lens is out of the way, my next big enablement will be
an Ikelite housing with strobes for the 20D... and a spare 20D. I've
always said I wouldn't take a good camera underwater with me unless i

Christian,

While diving in Australia a diver turned me onto a site that did have a housing
for the *istD ;-P This only means that since I have two I can have one for
underwater and a backup when I decide to drop the money for one - they are not
cheap.

I agree with your assessment.

Re: Pentax 645 Question

2007-02-01 Thread cesar_abdul
Angel,

I cannot answer your question about the use of NiMH, because I have yet to try
them in my 645n.
This is because the alkaline batteries last so long in them. I recall checking
with a battery checker just about every time I use my camera after it has sat a
while and to be honest I think I have only had to replace the batteries twice
in the few years I have owned mine. I even share the batteries between the
two bodies I have!

You should be fine with NiMH batteries, but don't feel like you have to use
them to save on batteries, the 645n is quite stingy in using them up.

I am still on the original battery in my 67 too - to lazy to try to figure out
how many rolls I may have shot in medium format... :-)

Cotty,

I would like to say that I planned it that way, and I agree that it does make
the shot, but I cannot.
Though I would hope to think that subconsciously I waited for everything to be
right in the photo.
I took a shot previously just because I did not know when he would move. Then
I stood there and took another shot when I felt the the composition in the
viewfinder was right - I also looked at the camera settings for the second shot
to see if I wanted to override them.

As an aside, I went out yesterday afternoon to walk to the grocery store.
Because of the cold I did not know how much to trust electronics. I took a
Leica M-3 and a Sekonic Studio Deluxe L-398 light meter with me. It felt good
to shoot in that manner. I do have to wait to develop the film though - I am a
patient person.

I tried to upload today and got the same error.

It figures that I would finally have some time to address the list and the PUG
and it will not go cleanly :-)

Re: How does one unlock an SD card??

2007-01-09 Thread cesar_abdul
That is one of the things I dislike of SD cards. I have two for my Optio S and
S4. Both of them have loose switches.
I am sure there are plenty of hardship cases with both types of memory, but I
have never had a CF ever act up on me.

Your mileage will vary,

Paul,
Look for a little sliding thing on the side of the card. It is a
mechanical switch.

Yes Scott you do have a rear lens cap of mine. I guess I will have to get it
back at GFMtn.

It was a wonderful time at our get-together. Sometime - during my copious free
time - I will have to put up some of my images from the outing...

Cory,

Attending NPW, I will be - where I will be at that point is still up in the
air. The plan is for me to be working in Florida by summer - but there is no
telling when that will be until we get closer...

I will try to keep you in the loop as to where I end up and when...

As of today, barring anything going wrong (work), PDML West will be making
another appearance.
It seems though that my usual passenger might not be coming from the same
part of the country (right Cesar?) so I'm in the market for a highway
companion (Tom Petty?) [read: somebody to help pay for gas]
Leaving Atlanta probably Thursday morning.
I can't wait!

Being a TEAM member (I don't think I have been kicked off), I will be attending
the Nature Photography Weekend.

The question is where will I be based at that time? I am supposed to be
working back in northwest Florida by the summer.

We shall see which route I will be taking,

Re: OT: Occupations?

2007-01-08 Thread cesar_abdul
I am an electrical engineer by education (City College of New York) and
profession. I just finished up supporting operational testing of radar systems
in an electrical warfare environment in Florida.

Currently I am working on the F-22 system and am looking to getting on another
project here shortly. The new project should get me back to Florida by the
summer.

The funny thing is that most of the people that know me in Florida know me as a
photographer,

I've been reading this list for nearly 8 months now, and I'm aware of
some of your occupations... however some of you are a mystery to me.
I'm not sure if that's on purpose or not... :)

Anyway, just for a starting point, I'm a elementary special education
teacher, presently substitute teaching as I'm just starting out back
in my hometown after a year teaching in Kingston-Upon-Hull (it's never
dull in Hull!), England , and then two years teaching in northern
Alberta.

Anyone care to share?

TV 7's wedding...

2006-12-12 Thread cesar_abdul
Hi there!

I must apologize for not only be silent on the list but not even being able to
lurk :-(

I am now situated in Baltimore, Maryland - DCPDML gatherings abound :-)

I will be back in the warmer confines of Florida starting next week through the
New Year though...

Anyhow, I really should have posted this sooner...

The weekend I arrived in the DC area, to begin this hopefully short phase of my
career, coincided with Tom VanVeen and Ashlee's (#7) wedding in DC. Okay, so I
did a bit of juggling to make this all happen but ssshhh, don't tell them...

I arrived just in time to precede Tom's walk. I did not have a chance to pick
camera gear and I even forgot my coat in the car! I think they were both
shocked and happy to see me.
I took the liberty to convert a few of my *ist D shots to bw - mainly due to
the lighting in the place and my lack of using flash - and posted a few on the
web.

Take a look at:

http://groups.msn.com/MyRugbyPictures/7tv.msnw

to see them.

It was a nice ceremony. My favorite part was seeing the couple grab
instruments and joining in on the music. Tom asked if I was going to report it
to the list. Let him know that I finally did - my apologies for being late. I
am looking forward to spending more time with them this coming year. Hmmm, let
me see if I can get him to show up at GFMtn for the NPW...

NYCPDML beware, I do try to make frequent trips up that way. It has been too
long since our last gathering. I may even break out the medium format gear for
that gathering :-0

All those within reach of Baltimore, D.C, NYC, etc. please get with me. I will
probably be up here until next summer. I would really enjoy getting together
with any PDMLers I can.

I brought all my digital, medium format, screwmount, and most k-mount Pentax
gear up with me, along with all my photos and slides - I hope to catalog, or at
least put these shots in albums while I am up here.

The *ist D continues to take great shots (at my direction),
