Impetigo, IIRC, is a variation of a staph infection. The Staph
bacteria, in all it's mutations, has become a rather nasty one due to
the misuse of antibiotics. It is now one of the Super Bugs. Don't
skimp on your antibiotic, and take acidophilus a few hours after

Re: [No Subject]

2018-01-31 Thread John Francis

Yep - that's the generally accepted name. "Infantigo" appears to be
a US-specific corruption.

My younger brother had a very nasty case of this when he was perhaps two.
It wasn't responding to the normal treatment (Gentian Violet, in those days),
so our doctor decided to try a new antibiotic that had recently been made
available for general use in such cases - something called "Penicillin".
While Penicillin had been used by the armed forces in WWII, it took a bit
longer for it to come into widespread use. Fortunately our GP kept himself
informed of developments in medicine, and was prepared to try something new.
(This was in the early '50s).

I'm experiencing something I should gotten over with in grade school.
"Infantigo."

I don't think there was a time in Grammar school when at least three students
weren't

comparing bumps. I read that it is often known as School Bumps!

I know that's interesting, but I have a different critter to present, so I'll
get to it.

Awful stuff!!

Comments appreciated.

I was 1,950 miles from home, visiting the ancient Taos Pueblo, one of the
oldest continuously inhabited communities in the US. To my great surprise,
among the hand full of dogs hanging out there, I spotted an Alaskan

every day at home:

The Phalaborwa Orchid Club are holding their annual show this weekend. This
GESO is a photographic record of some of the exhibits. The climate is ideal
for growing orchids without need for a controlled environment. Some of the
members did well on national shows in former years but don't travel any more
because of the cost.

2013-04-05 Thread Bipin Gupta
Hi John, Stan, Bob and many other good PDMLers, I agree with you folks
and that we should not publish, depict, post or spread hatred on a
Public Network.
I have lived in many parts of the world, including my native Bangalore India.
In some places I find the Police very haughty, high handed, loud and
with an intimidating body language / swagger. They hand cuff people
for petty misdemeanors, even when they are not violent.

Here in India or in Muscat, Oman and in Dubai, the UAE, I have never
seen Police handcuffing people except in homicide cases or violent
crimes. In fact I was surprised to find the Royal Oman Police very
kind, helpful and humane.

  I remember being involved in
a pile up - high way speed is 120 KMPH. The Police Officer greeted us
with an "As Saalam Alaikum", shook hands and requested us for our
Driving Licence and the Vehicle Registration Card. He then directed us
to the nearest Police Station, where we were issued with the Police
Report, which helps us file the Insurance Claim.

I believe this lady had some tiff with the Police earlier during
Protests for College Fee Hike or something. She may have had a grouse
and vented it by photographing violent street art and then publishing
it.

I have seen such street art on a paid photo walk in San Francisco.
Worst still we found folks absolutely naked on the streets of San
Francisco, Castro District I think, with the dingle-dangle and all in
full public view. And there were children, women, tourists in the
area.
I must say I am confused by the moral & social values in the Americas.

Once in Chicago, I saw a lovely little girl in a wheel chair. I had a
little brother like her with mental retardation, but he drowned
swimming in the river Ganga. So I bent down to chat with her out of
over whelming love and affection and blessed her by touching her hair
and fore-head. My host later told me it is not a done thing here. I
was sad to hear this.
Regards.

Military humor differs greatly from civilian humor.
Even so, with the number of clenched-fist images and other leftist
revolutionary displays going on recently, what used to be the virtue
of opposing those who oppose liberty is now considered "hateful" or
some other such nonsense.

Today we memorialize those who have served. We do not honor those who
disgrace their service for liberty or the liberty that they defended.

Hello all, found a few comments that I missed the first time around.

Yes, Jack, it was overcast. Even had a little rain, as you can see on
the tortoise's shell. Some of the kids couldn't believe how big it was. They
had
no idea that giant tortoises even existed.

Dave, I have always been accused of having too dark images, except when I was
taking photography at Bakersfield College back in the 70's. I had to be
careful,
printing for school, prints were expected to have a full tonal range, while
when
I was printing at the studio, I had to be sure to print lighter for
reproduction
in the newspaper. I still like my images towards the darker side with a full
range of tones. Are you comparing my rhino shot to Walt? At least Walt could
fit in my car when he visited.

Paul, I mentioned before that I had similar ornamental grass, but that
it was not as attractive as usual because it was beaten, broken and
bent over by an unexpected October snow storm. Today, I was cleaning
up the patio, and cutting away the dead grasses. I came across a few
heads that were passable, although not as nice as last year. Neither
my flower heads nor my images are as good as yours, but here they are

Apologies for treading in your circles, Godfrey. :-)
I too had a memory of seeing a post from you on Exiftool, but when I
looked through the December archives again I couldn't find it. Looked
through again today to make sure, but it's not there. I checked the
November and October archives for posts regarding Exiftool too, but
found nothing from your hand. :-(

What you say above is very interesting. Am I right to think that if
you remove the LensID data, LightRoom will rely on other tags to
identify the lens?

I have a Sigma 500/4.5 that doesn't identify itself properly. Not a
big deal since it's my only Sigma lens, but it's what I have that I
can experiment with.

In a K-5 camera-produced DNG it appears in these tags (as listed by ExifTool):

 XMP-aux
   Lens = Sigma Lens
   Lens ID = 3 0

 ExifIFD
   Lens ID = Sigma
   Lens Kind = 0x18
Lens Type = Sigma (this tag occurs twice in the readout)

I'd guess that ExifIFD:Lens Kind is a hex representation of the
XMP-AUX:Lens ID and one would have to clear both, and then replace the
textual data with the full lens name. Do you think that sounds right?

Hi All,

While shooting an argentine tango performance over the weekend
I set the WB of my K-7 to "Tungsten light".
I was surprised to see that while ~80% of shots were with about the right
color, some considerable number of shots had a distinctive.
It was not as red as it would have been if I left the WB to be on Auto,
but still yellow.

All the shots were taken under the same condition: in the same room,
from the same point, with no light changing, just the couple moving.
More over,- some series of shots were made with the the couple in place ,-
and some have the WB alright, and some - are yellow.

Has anybody experienced anything of this sort?
What could be the reason (besides some malfunction of the camera)?

Igor

Colin,

If you provide a subject line, you'll get more responses.

Buying the 17-28 would be good if (1) you shoot film, or (2) you are sure that
Pentax is going to produce a camera with a 35mm format sensor.

The 17-28 fits the Pentax digital bodies nicely, but doesn't provide much
fisheye effect--it becomes the 35mm equivalent of 25-42mm.

As for the merchant...

Sorry for forgetting to add the subject prior to sending.
Paul,
I like the idea of completing the wing (although cheating a bit) for
a nicer composition. Yes, I believe I did have my settings on a half
stop under and the noise is pretty much visible only on the full size
image. I process my RAW files with Bibblelite, but hate to use the
noise reduction for fear of losing detail. But I guess I could play
with the lesser settings on it.

2006-12-21 Thread MikeM
Last year when I visited my daughter in Scotland I bought an Olympus
C-7070 for the trip. I left my SLRs home, mainly because I was
already constantly in trouble with my family for spending too much on
processing film. The Oly proved to be very versatile and on seeing
and printing up to A4 some of the thousands of photos I took on our
travels I found, especially on the rare sunny days on our northern
winter trip, the results were sharp and bright, and to me look good.

We will be visiting the same daughter again next year so I want to
get the K10D before I leave. I am thinking of getting the Pentax
16-45 lens. This is the first digital camera I have owned, I would
like some idea of how my Olympus compares with other digitals,
especially the K10D with the 16-45 lens. The results look good to me,
but I am interested in opinions of more experienced digital users.

I have posted a few of my digital photos on this site if anyone is
interested in comparing them.

2005-09-19 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi,

I've mainly browsed the list and asked some questions from time to time.
However,
this interest me. I'm thinking of getting a Pentax DSLR, having mainly shot
Pentax 35mm and Hassie mf.

1. One thing I've wondered about is how fast in real life is the use of the
Green button?. Once activated to shot being taken - is it a few tenths of
second prolongation, or is it a second..?

2. I can understand some of JCO's queries here. I e.g. sometimes shot
hummingbirds
- small fast moving creature and you move the lens while shooting of a rapid
series of shots (LX and its of the film metering is really good) and while
you do that the light sometimes changes so that expousre must be metered
at or close to real time of shooting. I guess that this might be a problem
if you need to press the Green button on every change of the light or is
there a way round this? I'd appreaciated some pondering on these question.
If this is to slow then I'm thinking of keeping my "fast" 35 mm for certain
situations and digital for other type o slower photography.

Cheers,

Ronald Arvidsson

Hello Kevin ...

We must have very different standards or you must be performing some
digital magic. I've seen a few 16" x 20" prints made from an istD, and
they looked very soft. I'd also seen the same print in a smaller size
(10x13 or so?) which looked quite good - sharp and detailed - so I
know the

original quality was fine.

In RAW format, I have made stunning quality 24"x36" prints, with no
grain or artifacts. Even the on-board Photoshop logarithm, you can
increase the file size quite substantially, although there are after
market plug-ins that do a better job. With the right plug-in, you can
rez up significantly further.

Thanks,

Cameron
