Re: Last call for Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6
Very generous of you to share that news, Matthew. If anyone doesn't know by now, THAT is my favorite lens. (Right now, I'd list in 2nd place the Pentax DFA 77mm f1.8 Limited). $379 is a steal for it new. I paid $350 USED when I bought mine 4 years ago. Last call for Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6
My dad's borrowing my Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 for a vacation, and he talked about buying one of his own. I went online to check prices, and it looks like this lens is now discontinued. I hadn't seen that news anywhere. It's a good bang for the buck, so if you want one, this may be your last chance. In stock at $379 with 4% rewards at B&H Overpriced at $479 at Amazon Out of stock at Adorama Not listed on Sigma's website -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Very pleased with the results, nice balance of abberations for such a wide lens, good value for money. OT: Sigma 10-20mm F/4-5,6 EX DC HSM
I attended a camera show today. I was specifically looking for a nice wide angle zoom. And for the DA 2.8 16-50mm. They didn't offer the latter (currently sold out). DJE Both 20mm f4 lenses are not well corrected for distorsion. But contrast and resolution? The M seems fine. I have not tried the K. Andre
Re: 20mm f/4
Well, I found that on the ST 20/4,5 and the three examples of the K20/4.0 that I had (still have one) the sharpness at the edges diminishes substantially, to the point of a soft blur in some cases. I've made a lot of pics with those lenses, and when the size gets up there, that soft blur becomes quite noticeable. Unacceptable! Could I have had a total of FIVE poor examples? Doubtful ... Since I could get a fair sum for those lenses, I took the money and ran. The K18/3.5 seems to be quite a bit better in that regard. 20mm f/4
Are you serious about the K20mm f/4 being lousy? I've seen a bunch of nice comments about it. I'd always assumed that they weren't readily availible for the same reasons that the A* lenses are not readily availible--Pentax didn't sell many and people are hoarding them. If it is that bad (and if the M is likewise bad) I can see why the A 20/2.8 goes for so much even used, and it pretty much leaves me with the FA 20/2.8 as a worthy option I guess I wouldn't be surprised if K and M 20/4 are not spectacular. Nikon made 3 inferior 20mm lenses before finally getting it right with their 20/2.8, and these would have been rougly contemporary with the K and M lenses. >From: Shel Belinkoff <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Ya just missed a couple. I've never seen one of these before so they can't be too common in these parts. Bob S. wrote: > I think it's coverage is significantly different from the 24mm. In fact I did consider buying an A24mm f/2.8 which I saw a few weeks back, just for the saving in size and weight when I want to travel light. I decided against that one due to the duplication of focal length. > The 20mm gets really wide. I also like using teles but wides are not a problem for me. I already own the Pentax 15mm and am well aware of the problems associated with viewfinders that have indadequate coverage (one of my little peeves). I agree that 20mm and 35mm make a good combination. I'll need to check out the distortion... and also think of whether I really this lens ;) Cheers, - Dave http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/

I think that a 20mm lens (although I can't help in judging the M 20/4's specific qualities here, since I've used only the A 20/2.8) should make a fine complement to anything from 28mm to 50mm (well, at least to 35mm or 40mm). And you would probably like the compactness for your purposes, too, David. In comparison, the A 20/2.8 is not nearly so compact - the barrel itself is about the size of a normal lens, but it has a wide filter thread (67mm) flange stuck on the front of it, which is quite nice for allowing filter use without vignetting, but which makes the lens somewhat "fat" to carry around. The 20/4 is quite "trim" in comparison. Fred
Re: M 20mm f/4
From David A. Mann: I've spotted this lens in a local camera shop and I'm just a little tempted as it would make a nice companion with the LX. I envisage adding this lens to my "lightweight snapshooting" kit, which is currently made of the LX and 35mm f/3.5. Good idea. I haven't found a lot of information in my list of bookmarked sites so I'm looking for general comments from anyone who owns one of these. Is its angle of view sufficiently different from a 24mm to justify purchasing it? Yes, as far as I'm concerned, but I tend to use it as a complement to a 28mm, a 30mm or even a 40mm (in this case, in a hiking kit where you also find a 85/2 and a few accessories). How's the sharpness, contrast/flare, distortion, colour rendering, light falloff, etc? Sharpness is very good even at full aperture (in the center). Contrast is fine except at full aperture (but I tend to use full aperture in low contrast situation, so...). Flare is, thanks SMC, well controlled. I tried shooting at the sun at the end of an afternoon in such a way that I would get the maximum amount of reflections. These reflections were very acceptable ("clean cut") and did not produce much "general flare". I'm not sure what I say is easy to follow, it's kind of late... Not much light fall-off at the apertures I tend to use (f7 to f13). I love this lens and bring it with me most of the time when I travel. If you can have it for a good price, don't think for too long, or it won't be there anymore. It's not easy to find one. The last three I saw sold between 300$ and 400$. Andre --
