Is it a little silver cylinder with the other end coming to something like the point on the little pencils they give you for keeping score at putt-putt golf? Actually, the end of it is squared-off. You can set it down on the end that was inside the recess of the baseplate of the camera. AND It took some effort (a good solid grip 'n' pull) with a needlenose pliers to extract it. A pretty firm press-fit. The previous owner replied that, yes, he was missing a bit but that everything looked and felt stable, still, so he's not worried about it. So I won't worry either. -Charles -- Charles Robinson - charl...@visi.com Minneapolis, MN http://charles.robinsontwins.org http://www.facebook.com/charles.robinson -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
RE: K5 came with an extra bit - what is this?
From: Charles Robinson I found this odd plug of metal in one of the screw holes on the bottom of the K5. I'd have left it in there but the silver tip sticks down further than the little feet on the bottom of the camera so it had to go. http://charles.robinsontwins.org/photos/2013/IMG_2219.JPG A pliers was able to pull it out - it was a tight fit - and there's a screw under there like there should be... I emailed the previous owner and asked him if he was missing a locator pin from a battery grip and he replied in the negative. Does anyone have a clue what its function could be? -Charles Based on what I see a quick look at my own K-20D, I think you've got it exactly right, it *is* the locator pin from a battery grip the previous owner just doesn't know it's missing. Re: K5 came with an extra bit - what is this?
Charles, It's a locating pin off of the battery grip. Tell the original owner he is missing the pin on the front-left of the grip. Regards, Bob S. On my K5, there is an empty hole there. Also, there is an empty hole below it and kitty corner to it. My grip is MIA at the moment, so I can't say if they are locator holes for the grip. Whatever it was, it was put there by a previous owner for nefarious reasons, I am sure.
