I wouldn't be surprised if you can accomplish the same level of noise
reduction with ACR in CS4. I've found it to be very effective.

2010-06-10 Thread George Sinos
Just tagging into the thread here -

The develop module of LR3 and ACR 6.1 are the same. The new features
are in both, so if you upgrade to CS5 you'll get the same features.

Also - Don't overlook a NAPP membership. It's about $100/year. In
addition to the magazine subscription there are a lot of discounts
that come with that. Right now, you get 15% Adobe products, free
shipping on orders from B&H and Adorama, and many others. Well worth
the price if you're going to take advantage of the benefits. NAPP is
at photoshopuser.com

Is the improvement in the processing engine enough of a change that I
should update from PSE3 to PSE8? Most of what is immediately visible in
th ensuing updates since PSE3 have been in areas that have little impact
on how I use the program.

I've read that the NR improvement in LR3 is due to the different processor used
for the RAW files. It is the same engine (or whatever you'd call it) as they
now use in CS5.

I found this to be a good non-Adobe-based summary of the changes/improvements:

Anyone know if there's any kind of promo pricing for getting LR3 as a

I've been considering getting LR as although I have CS4 I mainly use the Bridge

Me too, Paul. It's usually enough for my shots, even up to ISO 1600. If
I need additional NR, I apply a light luminance-only pass in ACR then
move the image to CS4 and use Noiseware Pro on it.

But I think my workflow would go faster with LR3 rather then Bridge/ACR.
Maybe I should just play with the demo for a week and see.
