It doesn't always have to be new cameras or lenses. Just got myself a new monitor, an EIZO CS2420, and boy am I happy with it. My old one, also an EIZO, had almost 16,000 hours on its counter and it was high time to get a replacement. Ralf -- Ralf R. Congrats Peter! FA* 85/1.4 is a really great portrait (and not only) lens. It provides outstandind sharpness and contrast, very good even at f1.4 (if you're lucky to hit right focus at this shallow DOF ;-) and in two different tests proved to be exceptional - about as sharp as the sharpest among Pentax lenses - FA 50/2.8 macro: http://www.pictchallenge-archives.net/TESTNUM/BxuREV7.html BTW - no one so far has proved superiority of A* over FA* version ;-) Cheers, Sylwek -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net

Peter, congrats on getting the 85 F1.4. You will enjoy it a lot..I have had mine a long time. I also have an 85 F1.8 and and an 85 F2.0 lens but the 1.4 is the one I always turn to, the 135 F.1.8 is also another fine lens which I also use a lot..Good luck with it...Joewww.photo.net/photos/pjjdxn At 06:01 PM 6/25/07, you wrote: >A few years ago, I bought an A 85 / 1.4 ( I seem to remember I got it >from Cotty, but my mind may be playing tricks here). A few years ago, I bought an A 85 / 1.4 ( I seem to remember I got it from Cotty, but my mind may be playing tricks here). I sold it a little later to fund the purchase of some 645 stuff as part of my master plan to have some great lenses for when the 645D came along. Anyway, my lack of 85 /1.4 has niggled me ever since, and when I saw the (I know slightly inferior) FA version on the website of a UK mail order retailer in Mint- condition, the day after my boss had told me of my annual pay rise, it was a sign from heaven, and I am now the proud owner of a very mint looking lens, complete with original box, soft case and the largest and most solid lens hood I have ever seen in my life. The composition works nicely for me in several ways - I wish I'd taken it! I have a Gitzo 1410 tripod with a Manfrotto 3421 gimbal head which is sturdy enough to support my A*400/2.8 so it should do OK with the A*600/5.6, which only weighs about half as much. Of course the A*600 is longer, and you advise that the tripod mount isn't optimally located, so I'll have to check it out. Glad to hear that there is another PDMLer from the area in addition to Paul Stenquist and Ken Waller. > Congratulations, I know you'll like it, and for what it's worth, it > sounds > to me like you got a good price if the pictures do it justice. I always place one "maximum" bid during the last 10 seconds of an auction, whether using sniping SW or placing the bid manually. It keeps me from getting hypercompetitive and chasing other bidders! On it's way: A*85/1.4 from Canada. It'll need some mount repair, but I've performed that feat before. After that will come a comparison: Will I keep it or the A100/2.8? And is WW still lusting for an A100/2.8? They're really tough to find and even harder yet to part with. It will be interesting to compare them in terms of size and image perspective on the DS, Super Program, and KX. RE: Major Enablement
Hi Jay, that's a very nice shot, and dog. I have the F80-200/4.7-5.6, it's one of my favorite walk-around lenses. Very light, and the internal zoom is a feature I wish ALL of my lenses had. The best way to find an F1.7x is to check eekBay and KEH at least several time a day. They show up fairly regularly but go VERY fast! Setup a search for "Pentax 1.7x" on eekBay and have them send you an e-mail whenever new items show up. Still a good idea to check manually, and frequently, too. Nearing a Major Enablement
I can't say much, except a deal seems to have been reached. For the sake of discretion, I don't want to say too much until it's consumated, likely around November 2nd or 3rd. I won't be a member of the Brotherhood, but trust me, it will be a Major Pentaxian Enablement of the 35mm film variety. Details to follow. I can say no more (I've probably said too much already)... cheers, frank "The optimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist fears it is true." -J.
