OT: New Toy! Woo Hoo!!
So today, I bought Dave Chang-Sang's Leica CL with Summicron C 2.0 40mm. A very nice looking little unit, I must say! I hope everything I've heard about this lens is true (you out there, Cotty? g). Certainly, the prints Dave showed me were impressively sharp. Should be a nice little camera for street photography. But, Cotty, after your big build-up earlier this week, if I'm not happy with it, I'm going to fly over there to kick your butt. vbg I know it's ain't a Pentax (hence, the OT), but I just had to share with you guys. I'm a Leica owner! :-) Congrats Frank - it truly is a great little camera. I'd go so far as to say that if you don't enjoy it as much as I think you will, I'll even meet you at the airport, and present you with a bare bottom, target rings and bulls-eye painted on, ready to go. Make sure you've got some extra grotty hobnail boots :-) seriously, it grow on you more and more. Also - it's *not* an M series camera. I know that sounds daft, but wondering about with it, you don't feel that it has a stigma attached to it as the (say) M6 does. People gawp less, it attracts less attention, and so lends itself beautifully to street. You will have loads of fun. If only Leica had joined forces with Pentax on that one instead of Minolta. The focus takes a moment to get used to, but from then on, it's great. No shutter lock, but when I wind on, I'm serious ;-) Good luck with it and have fun. You will. Re: OT: New Toy! Woo Hoo!!
I had a look at the camera when i met David last Saturday, for a moment, to look at his M135 he had forsale. First time i have ever looked through a rangefinder, and your right Cotty, took a bit to see how everthing was moving around. Now i have to think about something like the Mamiya 7 RF MF camera, which i'v added to my list. Good thing i have not saved up a lot of money yet, still have yet to fiqure out my MF needs. Have fun with it Frank. Dave Begin Original Message From: Cotty [EMAIL PROTECTED] The focus takes a moment to get used to, but from then on, it's great. Re: OT: New Toy! Woo Hoo!!
Hi, Cotty, I think I'm gonna like this camera, so I won't have to buy hob-nails boots and a ticket to London. Whew! It's a little gem! Haven't put any film in it yet (but will on the weekend!), but the focus and aperture rings are going to take a while to get used to. That's a tiny little lens barrel. Can't wait to take it on the street, tho'! Nope, I'll have to save my visit to the Mother Country for a ukpdml airshow meet. By the looks of the pics you posted, I'll have to invest in some really long, really fast glass, so I can fit in! Thanks for your comments, though, Cotty. I probably would have bought the Leica without your words, but they did help swing the balance! g (not to put any pressure on you or anything) regards, frank Cotty wrote: Congrats Frank - it truly is a great little camera. Hi, Rob, Not me. That's why even if I don't like the CL, I'm going to say I do. I was thinking of booting his (fully clothed) butt. Sorry, but I don't need to see it bare, with target painted on... vbg Rob Brigham wrote: I'll even meet you at the airport, and present you with a bare bottom, target rings and bulls-eye painted on, ready to go. Re: New Toy! Woo Hoo!!
Dont get disheartened if it takes a while to get used to, it took me quite some time to get used to my M6. The 40mm Minolta/Leica Summicron is supposed to be an excellent lense. Have fun. Now you'll need to pick up the 28mm and 90mm for it! and maybe an ASPH 35mm :) Regards, Paul - Original Message - From: Cotty [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Pentax List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, July 18, 2002 10:53 PM Subject: OT: New Toy! Hey Frank ... that's neat. Seems like you're getting all sorts of new gear these days, and most at pretty good prices. Perhaps I should hire you on as my purchasing agent g BTW, I first read the description as the Sigma 50~500 lens. Mount that puppy on your helmet and zoom through Toronto traffic on your Schwinn, and you've got it made. IAC, it seems that you're having fun smile. frank theriault wrote: My latest eBay purchase came in the mail today, and it's a beaut! A Sigma 50-200 3.5-4.5 APO one-touch zoom. Re: New Toy - Woo hoo!
Thanks, Shel. I have to get things at good prices... I can't afford to do it any other way! g We'll see how sharp the lens is, and whether I got that good a deal. I do prefer primes, and intend eventually to start to acquire k-mount primes to cover the ranges that I need. However, I've always figured that getting a couple of zooms to cover approximately the 35-200 range is a cheap way to get most of the usable range I need (albeit at the cost of some sharpness). Now I can take my time and shop for those Takumar and Pentax primes that I covet - for the bargain prices that I need. And, I would never attach a body/lens to my helmet. I remember your advice in that regard - not that I want to revive that whole OT helmet/no helmet laws thread again! vbg regards, frank Shel Belinkoff wrote: Hey Frank ... that's neat. I'm hoping since it's an older metal-barrel one, that Sigma's well-known mechanical unreliability won't apply here. I saw one for $375 US at some on-line shop, but that seems a bit steep.
