Interesting colour. I like it. Dave Quoting David Mann [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I posted a slightly cropped wildlife photo the other day: http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/temp/swans.html Well, I just added the full-frame version to my online database, and I figured I might as well make it a PAW. http://www.bluemoon.net.nz/photo/printsdb/view.php?p=387t=1 The swans are the black dot at the far right :) Cheers, - Dave http://www.bluemoon.net.nz/ http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/ Equine Photography in York Region

Re: PAW - Lake Pearson at Sunset
You do to colour, what Shel does to BW. Great shot Dave Dave For some reason this photo just popped into my head the other day. I haven't been out this way for quite some time :( I used to like exploring the Cave Stream area, then heading to Lake Pearson for the sunset. This is the same place where I took the panorama I showed a few weeks ago but I took this photo about a year earlier. http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/cgi-bin/paw.cgi?date=23-Oct-2004 Cheers, - Dave http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/

Re: PAW - Lake Pearson at Sunset
Great shot, IMHO there are a few minor tweaks that I think can improve it, namely: 1. Straighten the horizon (its' slightly wonky) 2. Adjust the lower part ie the water and lower part of the mountain to show a little bit more detail. I tried it in ps and youve got loads of interesting detail especially in the reflections. 4. crop out the top part of the sky up to a little bit above the highest cloud above on the left half of the picture. That will move the horizon to a little bit below the upper third of the picture. Patrick [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: For some reason this photo just popped into my head the other day. Love the exposure! The dark foreground and lovely bright sky, along with the mountain (bright on top, dark on bottom) really contrast nicely. Of course, terrific composition, too. All in all, very very well done. thanks, frank -- Sharpness is a bourgeois concept. -Henri Cartier-Bresson

You opined that the colours weren't very spectacular that evening, but I rather like the muted colours - they seem to emphasize the cloud patterns. Love the composition, the way the shoreline curves right up to the camera, with all that detail of the rocks and everything in the foreground. This is typical of your gorgeous work - NZ is obviously a beautiful country, and you excel in capturing it. cheers, frank -- Sharpness is a bourgeois concept. -Henri Cartier-Bresson

I have the Agfa scanner set to output Adobe RGB but as I don't use it often I tend to forget. The S20 is sRGB only so I don't need to convert. Since most browsers assume sRGB it may look a bit better now. On-film it looked slightly more red but my quick attempt to emulate this in Photoshop went a little too far. It can be dangerous to put a light box on the computer desk as there's just no way you can make the screen look like the slide! Cheers, - Dave http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/

I do remember carrying that ^%$($* behemoth up to the Devil's Punchbowl waterfall, then leaving it to one side as there was too much spray. I had a hard enough time keeping the 35mm kit from getting completely soaked. That was a character-building exercise :) Either way I loved that rotating back. It's a great feature for a landscape camera. If you've ever tilted the tripod head with a Pentax 67 attached, you'll understand. Cheers, - Dave http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/

I agree. The blue coloration is an interesting touch. While it may look more like dawn than sunset, it's a very nice image. paul On Oct 10, 2004, at 4:25 PM, Kenneth Waller wrote: Well done. Hi! PS Never thought I had anything good enough for PUG postings, but PAW got me PS out of *lurker* mode. Constructive criticism appreciated. PS http://home.earthlink.net/~allaround6/washingt.htm PS Paul Welcome to visible mode, Paul g... Fascinating photo. It looks a little surreal to me. And the sun is a little too white. Overall it does not seem to work for me, but don't take it too seriously. As Bruce has said - it is definitely worthy stuff for PUG. And since PUG is not judged gallery - feel free to submit your work for PUG... I am for one would be waiting for it. The more people show their work on PUG the better. BOris
Re: PAW - Lake
I like it. You have a nice mix of really pure symmetry with non-symetical elements (like the partial symmetry of the bank to the left of the frame and the non-reflected foreground branches. I think it would be stronger with in a less contrasty print - I'd like to see some detail in the two large dark trees, wich just look like dark shapes on my monitor. But the flow of the lines - especially the diagonal formed by the bank at the left, combined with the static reflections, works well. - MCC At 09:53 PM 2/26/2004 +0100, you wrote: Hi! A well chosen view. However, is it a bit tilted or is it just my illusion? Whatever the case I feel like wanting to straighten it up a little. If possible I wouldn't mind some more detail in the shadows, and if there is any - also in the sky and the water. Is this the full frame? Are there more shots from this view? I also think I would have preferred the tree to the far right either shown in full down to the ground (if this would have been possible), or else maybe cropped right down the middle. Thanks, Lasse
RE: PAW - Lake
Katrin... I am no landscape photographer but... Despite the initial impact of the image and the fact that I do like it overall, I really think it lacks something due to the blown out sky and reflections on the water. Pardon the pun, but there is really no depth to the water. There are no ripples, etc to indicate that that is just what it is. If there was just a touch less exposure on both the sky and the water I think it would work much better... But, like I said, I am no landscape photographer... tan. -Original Message- From: Katrin [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, 27 February 2004 6:53 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: PAW - Lake Hi!
