Re: PESO: Flower Girl
The narrow roads and steep drop-offs are still there, as well as the speeding pick-ups. The best scenery is actually past Hana, especially in and around the 'Ohe'o Gulch portion of Haleakala National Park. I spent a bit of time hiking in the park, which is a very scenic rain forest, as opposed to the desert climate of the other end of the park. Of course, being a former aviator, I had to make the pilgrimage to Lindbergh's grave. Dan, The only time we drove the road was decades ago. The road around the east(?) side voided your rental car agreement. It didn't look far on a map, but took a full half day to drive to Hana. We never ventured any farther. Just happy to get back to home base. I still remember... 1,000 foot drop on one side of the road into the Pacific. 1,000 feet up on the other side of the road. Re: PESO: Flower Girl
Thanks, Frank. I appreciate your comments. Actually, I was using .7 compensation, but it wasn't enough. Had I used more, however,I probably would have blown out the background completely. She was in the open shade, and the bright tropical sunshine in the background at midday was almost blinding. But, hey, that is one of the things one must suffer here in paradise. When I have more time, I try to improve the image in PS. Too much to do here right now, with the whales cavorting off shore and the consistently great weather i the rain shadow of a 10,000 foot volcano. By the way, here is South Maui I am surrounded by Canadians, Mostly from BC and Alberta, but also from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, the Yukon and even New Brunswick. Air Canada, Alaskan and Hawaiian airlines all have reasonable direct flight from the major cities of Western Canada, the Canadian (particularly in the Western Provinces) economy appears stronger now that that of the US, and of course the weather in Western Canada is a bit chilly that time of year. As a result, in the area where we stay, Canadians far outnumber those from the US. Re: PESO: Flower Girl
Thanks, Bob. The cultural diversity of Hawaii is such that few of the locals are clearly identifiable as belonging to only one of the ethnic groups that comprise the people of Hawaii. In fact, they have a special name for any family that appears all to belong to the same race: "tourists." There have been improvements to the Road to Hana since I last drove it decades ago, but it is still interesting. Actually, the road TO Hana is fairly manageable; it's the road BACK from Hana, around the east end of the island and leading to upcountry at the Tedeschi Vineyard and the ranch that is really challenging. RE: PESO: Flower Girl
Very pretty young lady and well captured by you. She appears a teeny bit dark on my Android screen (so you can take this with a grain of salt). Perhaps about +.7 or one stop of exposure compensation might have helped, but I guess it's too late for that now. Maybe she could be dodged or otherwise brightened a bit in processing? Worth the effort imho because it's a lovely photo. Cheers, frank --- Original Message --- From: "Daniel J. Re: PESO: Flower Girl
Dan, I was expecting someone of Polynesian heritage. If you made the drive to Hana, I congratulate you. My driveway in Wisconsin was bigger and in better shape than that road. And the crazy Hawaiians drove pick-ups DOWN THE MIDDLE all the time. Regards, Bob S. On Sun, Feb 17, 2013 at 4:02 AM, Daniel J.
