PESOs - Two More from NorCal Meet
I've been working on photos all day since I recovered them. Then I started wondering how to share them. I can't compete with the great shots that John has already shared, and Godfrey's two, and more great shots to come from Bruce and Shel and others, I am sure. So I decided to dribble out about six photos as PESOs, probably in twos. Then I'll direct you later to a GESO with about ten others that you haven't seen. Not that you are waiting with bated breath, but you might find it interesting to see what each of us noticed, shooting in the same area, that the others didn't. Or did, as the case may be. I really have no decent shots of PDMLers, it seemed others were doing that, and the few I got turned out poorly. Besides I want CREDIT for some PESOs! ;-) (Since I haven't done that many.) So here are two PESOs from the recent NorCal PDML meet, probably my favorites: Fern Gradient -- Japanese Gardens http://members.aol.com/eactivist/PAWS/pages/ferns.htm Fat Watch -- History Park http://members.aol.com/eactivist/PAWS/pages/watch.htm These are slightly smaller with a slightly lower resolution than I normally do, because I was/am planning on posting a group of shots from the outing. Comments welcome, of course. Marnie aka Doe :-)

RE: PESOs - Two More from NorCal Meet
What bullshit, Marnie. There's no need for you to apologize for your photographs. Some may not be as great as the photos of other people, but that's a real subjective call. Please remember and think about the conversation we had while riding down to the meeting, (including the comments YOU made) and other similar conversations. It just pisses me off that you're apologizing for your work. Your work is your own, your vision is your own there is no need or reason to compare it to that of anyone else. Marnie, these are both very good shots. I especially like watch, a different perspective than normal. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I've been working on photos all day since I recovered them. Hi Marnie... When I tried to access (click on) the image of that wild cat taken at the 2004 GM trip, I only got a window from the AOL.hometown site... Shel == This group is very intimidating sometimes because of all the good photographers on the list. My technique, not to put too light a point on it, stinks. Although I probably shouldn't have said anything about it. Also, I haven't quite figured out how to do it, but I sort of want people to know I know it stinks, but I suppose I could make responses on technique afterwards. But, you know, rather than bawling me out, which maybe was not a bad thing, at least once anyway, I'd much prefer comments on my actual PESOs. That *is* why I share them. And I really get more out of that. It gives me something specific to think about; something specific to work with the next time. Also, I am used to having paintings/drawings critiqued, at least, many long years ago, so I really can handle technique and composition criticisms quite well. These two are not that bad technically, but that is partly why I picked them out. Marnie, You spotted two things that I didn't see. Of the two, I like the second one best. It is very well framed to put our attention where you wanted us to. Nice job. I do like all the textures and patterns in the fern, too. Obviously something worth salvaging off the drive. -- Best regards, Bruce Tuesday, March 8, 2005, 12:09:52 AM, you wrote: Eac I've been working on photos all day since I recovered them. I realized the highlights are blown on Fat Watch, but in its case, I don't think it matters very much and I liked the way I could make it look like a picture from the past if I left things out of the frame. Thanks for looking. Marnie aka Doe The much happier (pictures-salvaged) camper. :-)

Hi Marnie, On Tue, 8 Mar 2005 10:25:15 EST, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Also, I haven't quite figured out how to do it, but I sort of want people to know I know [my technique] stinks, but I suppose I could make responses on technique afterwards. Part of the problem with the fact that my technique covers a lot of ground. Some people won't know what you want or where to start. You need to narrow it down more and ask about something more specific, say control of DOF or something. Maybe if you put some information about your technique for the shot, and the goal(s) you tried to achieve with that technique, into the PESO message. Give a short description of the parts of your technique for the shot that you feel might not have been up to snuff. Then explicitly ask for comments on that. That might even get people going and end up commenting on other parts of technique, too. And I really get more out of that. It gives me something specific to think about; something specific to work with the next time. It does, but as I'm sure you know, you have to be careful. Some of the advice you get will be explaining the critic's vision of the photograph, not yours. :-) I'm bad about that when reviewing others' works. Actually, besides the burned out highlights and nothing in focus and terrible orange cast types of comments, it's the only type of critique I know how to do. TTYL, DougF KG4LMZ
