A have never heard of a "pro bono" class action.

First, the cost of conducting that type of litigation is enormous -- even
excluding attorney fees.

Second, one purpose of creating a class action is to get the court to award
attorneys fees paid by the defendant to the attorneys for the class.

The chronic problem I've had with using Earthlink with PDML has been that the
server pool in Atlanta where my emails most often go through regularly appears
on the black-hole SPAM blocking service that the PDML server uses. It's one guy
SPAMMING mail lists.

I've talked to Earthlink "tech support" about it and they DON'T CARE.

Re: OT: Test

2014-05-26 Thread John

That's Ok.

Since I was sending from Yahoo, I expected gmail would deliver it to
SPAM folders. I hoped some others might see it in their inbox or PDML
folders.

Which they did.

What I was really looking for was whether Roadrunner would deliver it to
me. It didn't, but roadrunner email does seem to be back online now. I
think I just lost about 24 hours worth of messages.

The only reason I still have the Yahoo is to cross-check PDML for
online transactions that require you to give an email address.

Thanks to all who saw it replied.

If you know someone who's memorized the formula for solving it, and yes,
it is a formula ... actually several of them you use sequentially ...
here's a fun thing to do.

Pry one corner block loose, rotate it 120 or 240 degrees pop it back
on. Thoroughly mix the sides corners and leave it where your patsy can
find it.

Makes 'em completely crazy.

Re: OT Test your Colour IQ

2008-09-16 Thread Paul Stenquist
Calibration matters when you want to match printer output to what you
see on the screen, or when you want to make sure that images you
deliver to clients are color accurate. In terms of this test, it
doesn't matter because you're identifying color shift between
samples. And even if the colors your looking at are not accurate, the
shifts are still proportional.

What time? It took less than 30 seconds a row.

Pick the color on the left, move all hues with that color in them to
that side, closest match first. Adjust order if needed, go to the
right, adjust order of those starting with the closest hue. Done. Go

If you stare at it trying to see subtle differences, you lose the

The News server kept rejecting the messages with a message they were too
old.

Finally figured out the computer date/time got stranded somehow; set to

Evidently the mail server didn't care, cause the date/time was still

Whether there *is* a place for them or not, well, that's definitely not

Steve, if you want to improve the TV news, forget about consolidating
staff positions through hardware, instead - make things faster. Instant
broadcast quality live pics and sound from anywhere via mobile

with minimal fuss will be a big step forward. Forget landlines etc, it
needs to be completely standalone, operating in the field, no

It'll come, I'm sure. The success of videophones in TV news pretty much

mobile phone technology gets properly off the ground, although quality
of service and coverage are issues with that technology. I genuinely
have no inside information on this one, but I'm sure it's being looked

Actually, I never checked that. For some reason I noticed your email's in the past did
that, and I didn't realize it was related to reading the digest. I noticed you used to
reply to your own email messages when you replied to other threads, so I was wondering
why this happened, now I understand.
I guess that is happening with other readers of the digest as well, but as I didn't
keep track of who is reading the digest, I never made that connection.
As I set my email client to thread the messages in my PDML folder, it is an advantage
for me if this works.

Open letter to Cotty!
Why _ever_ do those cameras weigh 25 lbs?
You would think that with the advances in image recording technology in
the past 10 years, they'd be able to shrink the size of those cameras
considerably!
I know the weight helps steady things, but that's what we have IS for!
So it seems to me.

Re: OT - test

2004-06-25 Thread graywolf
Well I can answer that one. They don't weigh 25 lbs. The big fast zoom lens, and
big heavy batteries (remember they need to run that thing for up to a couple of
hours) are most of that weight. The rest is simply ruggedness. Those camcorders
get thrown around and beat up a lot. Something like Adelheid's nifty Canon XL-1
(6 lbs or so) would not last 6 months in heavy news use.

And the advances in technology did lighten them they used to weigh 45-50 lbs.

At Portland last weekend I noticed a small remote camera perched on top
of the catch fencing. The camera body was about the size of a three-pack
of video tapes, and the lens assembly was around the size of a coke can.

Closer inspection revealed this to be an HDTV camera. It was externally
powered (which is how I first spotted it), and had no record capability,
but I was still impressed by the small size as compared to a BetaCam.

On Fri, 25 Jun 2004, Cotty wrote:
You asked about size. Other things that stipulate a camera's size:
acquisition format (tape, basically). Betacam is made by Sony and a
camera tape is physically identical in size to the old Betamax tapes you
may recall that died after JVC won the domestic market in videotape all
those years ago. Panasonic is another contender with its DVC Pro, and
they are smaller tapes, as is Sony's own DV Cam. Surprisingly the high
end cameras using these latter two formats are not much smaller than a
Betacam.
Hmmm, I've been playing with a Sony DCR-VX2000E lately, which is the
standard camera the BBC's issuing its video journalists with right now (a
video journalist is one person doing all the jobs of a reporter, camera
operator, sound operator and producer...) - it's a hell of a lot lighter
than beta; perhaps 12lb including a mounted shotgun mike and two-hour
battery? It's not rugged though; that's probably the difference. I guess
there's news and there's news :-)

Betacam is definitely broadcast-quality though; the smaller formats aren't
really.

(Disclaimer - I now work for the BBC and therefore consider myself
entirely qualified to bore the list with this kind of thing ;-) )
