 Wow! That's great!

A few weeks ago my 4 1/2 year old Imac G5 started going to sleep
right in the middle of a task (like typing).

 I do that

 I did some research and
learned that they will do that when they overheat,

I'd better take my cardigan off

 and they overheat
when the cooling vents get clogged with dust. (There is a long slot
across the top and a circular vent behind the leg.)

I've got one of those behind my legs

 I took some
canned air to them and blew out an enormous amount of crud.

I tried that but it just made my eyes water and messed up the bathroom

 The
 computer has been fine since.

 Computer?!

much better computer with an excellent monitor. I'm pleased as could
be. Waiting for it to restore all my files from a Time Machine

Other than the disruption time involved, sounds like what you might expect
from a good supplier that wants your repeat business. Glad to hear.

Happy ending indeed. I would have been very frustrated during the
process if I were you. Hoping here that new one will prove at least 10
times more reliable than the old one.
