I really don't know when or even why I first joined. I believe it was after 2001 or 2002 when I was still actively shooting weddings. I used Pentax 645 and ZX-5n cameras, so that must have been the reason. I remember Roberto B. and we correcponded several times off list. I recently found him on the other Pentax Forum and we traded greetings again. He mentioned his cancer and divorce. I left the group once for a few years and then came back after I bought the istDL. I blame all of you for the K10, K20, and all the other lenses I have now, including the famous t-shirt. Unfortunately, it is true that you cannot have too many! :-) The oft mentioned GFM event got me to attend in 2007 and I got to meet several of you, as well as buy a hat from David Brooks. Steve contacted me about helping out, and we ran it together for a bit, and it was his idea to take it the free hosting sites, which then became quite unwieldy, and our good man Igor offered space at komkon. Re: 11 years (was: 4 years)
I've been trying to remember when I came on the list - my best guess is 1997 sometime - shortly after my son was born. My interest in photography was peaked then and I got going with my Super Program and then picked up a ZX-10 and went on from there. Does anyone remember Mark Dalal? I remember he organized the first Norcal PDML at Muir Woods - Met John Francis there, among several others. -- Best regards, Bruce Monday, February 16, 2009, 10:39:30 AM, you wrote: IR> Some recollections about PDML, PUG, etc. IR> I joined the list some time in 1997, when I purchased my IR> first Pentax - ZX-5n. Re: 11 years (was: 4 years)
Boy, all these characters bring me back. We were all thinking that Mafud and Kirkland Ramsey III were the same guy. There were some real roller coaster postings in those days. I still see Rubenstein on Photo.net once in a while - he was doing wedding work in NY shooting Nikon if I remember correctly. I remember Roberto Burgos who seemed like a great guy. Ah, yes. I remember those days well. I remember that incident, in particular, because Mafud stated categorically that it was impossible to spoof emails well enough to avoid detection, and taking this as proof positive of whatever conspiracy theory he was peddling that day. (I don't know how come I saw that post, as he was in my permanent killfile; maybe he'd changed his email address, or maybe somebody quoted his message). Anyway, he shortly made a followup post recanting that particular position. Or, at least, it appeared that he did. But very soon thereafter he was ranting and raving even more than usual, accusing person or persons unknown of identity theft, fraud, libel, and the like, and denying any and all connection to the followup post. But, apparently, the mail was spoofed well enough to make it pretty hard to point the finger at anyone involved. And, in any case, just the injection of that message pretty much deflated Mafud's argument - a fairly convincing proof-by-example. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

That sounds right, as I would have joined soon after mid '99 and The Who was gone but still being discussed.
