Very good! Frankly, I wouldn't have expected anyone whose folks named him Cameron to play the ocarina! On the other hand, the mental images of "jazz ocarina" are somehow appealing! You may have known of Tommy Newsome, who was with the Johnny Carson band. One night many years ago I caught him at a Malibu jazz club, and found he played classical flute! Primarily known as a tenor sax man, he was very good on the flute. When he played Bach it brought tears to your eyes. . . Thanks for the entry on the Pentax-using Musicians List! Your training and experience is suitably impressive! keith whaley Cameron Hood wrote: > > On Nov 29, 2003, at 7:40 AM, Bill Owens ejaculated exitedly: > > > How many musicians? was Re: where are you ? and digital vs film > I am a classical flutist, have 2 degrees in music, and have attended > masterclasses with Sir James Galway, Jean-Pierre Rampal, William > Bennett, Louis Moyse, and many others. Used to be the drummer in a local swing band, snare drums in a marching banc and played tympani in a local symphonic orchestra. All I play now is the Bose Wave Radio and CDs. keith whaley Bill Owens wrote: > > This brings a question to my feeble mind. How many musicians do we have > here on the list? He was so incoherent that the club ended up refunding everyone who came to both his shows that night. :( Same here. He knew my old bass teacher up in Boston and showed up at one of his gigs at a local club and I got to shake his hand. He got up and sat in for 1 song (blues band), played way too loud with no cohesion to what was being played. I don't think I've had a musical idol since. His early work was great with Weather Report and I think that his work with Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays, and Randy Brecker on Joni Mitchell's Shadow and Light was brilliant, especially on the few up tempo songs on the album. I especially liked Coyote and the interplay between Jaco's bass and Pat's guitar. Memories... Butch Each man had only one genuine vocation - to find the way to himself. Hermann Hesse (Demian)

Hehe, that's funny. Lots of bass players here. I also play bass and at the same time I do the lead vocals in a band. The band was founded 1991 as a kind of high-school band, but it still exists today. As you can guess, I am a bit younger than most of you here, so the kind of music might not quite be your taste. It is a kind of dark romantic post-punk thingy, if you'd like to have a look: http://www.MurderAtTheRegistry.com We never tried to get into the big business with this, but finally, after years of tapes and CDRs, we finally managed to release our first offical album this year! Also available in the States via "metropolis"...it's music for a small scene, and although we're based in Germany the talk went around and we also might do some gigs in states next year... :-) Keep your fingers crossed for us! ;-) I also sometimes try to combine thos two passions and do a lot of shooting at gigs of other bands. But the shots we have from our gigs are not always the way I wanted them *sigh* Should split myself ;-) ... I guess it might count for at least 1/4 point, right? Unfortunately, I never had a chance to meet him, but that's another story. I like music but I don't play any, nor do I have any musical education... But you asked anyway. Boris
