Re: K2 Problem

2004-05-24 Thread William Johnson
Thanks for the info Mark. I'll take a look and see if I can't get it
figured out.

Thanks again,

William in Utah.

Could be something as simple as a bad (corroded) battery connection.
When you have no power (dead batteries or some other reason) the shutter
defaults to sync speed. If it really is going to sync speed when you get
your problem the most likely cause is a temporary interruption of power
somewhere, so a bad power switch would be the next candidate.

I think there is none (simple solution). This problem indicates probably dirty
shutter solenoids - that's not a trivial repair, although it can be
done by a competent CLA. Sorry to disappoint you :-(

I do hope it's some simpler error, though. Does it occur only in AUTO
or MAN mode as well?

Both :-(

Thanks. I was afraid it might be expensive.

Hi William. I am sorry :-( But still, try to contact some good
repairman (vis the list of Pentax repairs reviewed by PDML members,
link is somewhere on www.mycroft.de), perhaps it will be some easier
repair. I am not sure about the fault myself. It still could be
something else. The K2 are mostly very modular and welldesigned
cameras, so repairing them is much easier than for example an LX.
Don't give up :)

Hi William and Mark,
this indeed sounds probable. I do not know how but I just haven't
read the part about the shutter sounding like the X speed. I just wrongly
assumed it was the same problem I saw earlier in some K2, which
behaved oppositely - every few shots it opened the shutter for
longer than selected. Must read the nessages I am replying to
   better next time :)
