I don't think I've ever heard of an OS vendor doing something like this before. Surely the only inference one can draw from it is that their OS is not good enough to protect itself properly. That or they're just out to get Adobe. That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing - the latest versions of Lightroom are now too bloated for me to run them comfortably on the boxes I currently have. Microsoft, Java/Javascript in IE. Any console system, every other cell phone except Android and webOS Based phones. In this case, Apple is NOT an OS Vendor, they're selling a box and a way to distribute content to said box, then saying they're not going to give a 3rd party control of part of the deal. It's pretty much standard operating procedure for anyone selling closed systems like a console or a phone. -Adam On Fri, Apr 30, 2010 at 3:49 AM, Bob W p...@web-options.com wrote: I don't think I've ever heard of an OS vendor doing something like this before. Gonna stick my $0.02 in here ... I don't have an iPhone. Don't matter to me if they allow Flash or not, although lookin' in from the outside, I think it's gonna' come back and bite 'em in the butt sooner or later, but that's their problem not mine. The reason I don't have one is because everyone I know who has one spends about half their time telling me what a Luddite I am because I don't have an iPhone and the other half of their time cursing the iPhone because they can't get whatever they're trying to do to work. Meanwhile, if I want to make a phone call, my cell phone works and if I need to run a computer program, I use my computer. I also don't text, I don't facebook, I don't tweet, and I don't blog. For one thing, I already have enough reasons for not being out taking photos. I need fewer distractions from photography, not more ... and if I didn't, I've got plenty of house work that needs doing. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

They are being forbidden to half- ass it. No one qualifies for the Olympic team based on reputation alone. No one gets a bank loan on the strength of nothing but their good intentions. You're right: past history matters. And the history of the Flash experience on OSX (aggressive memory consumption, memory leaks, browser crashes, OS crashes) as well as the history of Adobe's efforts to deliver a stable mobile Flash experience (keeping that four-word phrase firmly in oxymoron territory) demonstrates that Adobe is not ready to qualify. This is an upper- division class and they haven't fulfilled the prerequisites. Flash was the right technology at the right time. It has been a crucial part of the development of the online experience. But that doesn't mean Adobe should be allowed to coast in to every new frontier un-vetted. I detect a not at all subtle subtext from Steve Jobs saying If you had only shown us you had what it takes, it wouldn't have come to this. I think he is actually baiting them to try, but he wants them to bring their best, not something that is barely good enough. Demanding excellence from others you know to be capable of that excellence is not a prohibition on trying; it's an exhortation to try harder.
