Hmm. So I guess that, in light of the purchase of Pentax by Ricoh,
this thread about the Ricoh GXR's Leica M-mount module (I believe it
is officially called the Camera Mount A12 or something like that)
was not so off-topic after all.

Even without a dedicated Pentax camera module, with the M-mount module
on the GXR you'll be able to use Pentax lenses on the GXR easily -
Pentax M42 and K mount to Leica M adapters already exist. ]:-)

That would be neat. I was watching one on Ebay ... new in the box with
finder and case for $1000 ... but I decided it was simply too much
money.

Ricoh had their own Leica mount special too, a 28mm f/2.8 IIRC. Highly
prized lens too.

speculated it might actually use the lens' RF cam to talk to the

Of course, I also already have a Pentax M42 to Leica M bayonet

Interesting it looks like it might even have a 24x36mm sensor. But I
guess it's just a mockup so who knows what it will really have when it's
released.

Someone on DPR suggested it has in-focus confirmation and speculated
it might actually use the lens' RF cam to talk to the body. If so,
this will be the most sophisticated M lens adaptation to a digital cam
yet.

Of course, I also already have a Pentax M42 to Leica M bayonet adapter
so I can use my SMC Takumar 135/3.5 lens on it.

This is very close to final product. It's due in stores around October
according to Ricoh USA and three vendors I've spoken with. I've
already got pre-order deposit sitting on one ...

The sensor is APS-C (16x24mm) format, just like the other GXR A12
units. Specs to that level have been announced by Ricoh already:

it might actually use the lens' RF cam to talk to the body. If so,

Of course, I also already have a Pentax M42 to Leica M bayonet adapter

Re: OT Leica M lens module for Ricoh GXR

2011-06-28 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
Bob S is pestering me because I said that I despise advertising when
I'm trying to look at photos in the discussion about photo.wreck.
He's evidently a lover of advertising and photo.wreck. Well, number
one ... this isn't looking at photos. It's looking at a youtube
video. So he's just being a PITA.

But more significantly, I don't see any advertising when I look at the
link I posted, in either FireFox or Safari. The screen capture shows
what I see. I don't have any adblockers installed either. So I'm very
curious as to what Bob is seeing, and why.

I know he's looking with a Windows system and I'm looking with a Mac
OS X system. What are you looking with? What browser?

That's interesting. How do you have w/o Flash?

I just checked Safari's plug-ins and it lists
  Shockwave Flash 10.1 r102 — from file “Flash Player.plugin”
which is installed by default.

I'm running Safari 5.0.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.8. I don't know which
version (flash or HTML5) I'm seeing, how do you tell?, but it's the
same as what I see in Firefox.

Thanks for the info.

Yes It's an add that Youtube inserts before the actual clip plays.

Excited... :)

That's interesting. How do you have w/o Flash?

there are a few ways to do it, in my case i have the YouTube5 extension,
which sends a user-agent string (i assume) to YouTube and Vimeo that
convinces them Flash is not installed, so that they serve up the HTML5
versions of the videos

for other sites, i am also using Click2Flash plug-in, which basically
replaces all Flash with a script that allows me to load the Flash on
demand, eliminating all Flash advertising (and a few hackish
typographical and menu-type things); now and the i load flash in Safari,
but usually i bump Flash-required sites over to Chrome, where each tab
is a process so Flash can't kill the browser

I just checked Safari's plug-ins and it lists
   Shockwave Flash 10.1 r102 — from file “Flash Player.plugin”
which is installed by default.

i've got 10.2.159.1 fwiw; i have the current 10.3 installer queued up,
and i'd be more fastidiously up-to-date if i hadn't hobbled Flash
because of threats like these:

same shorter: http://bit.ly/kT7tsq

I'm running Safari 5.0.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.8. I don't know which
version (flash or HTML5) I'm seeing, how do you tell?, but it's the
same as what I see in Firefox.

when YouTube loads the HTML5 version, it displays a badge on the video
that says something like use original player to revert to the Flash
version (except on iOS); the controls are also a little different, but i
don't recall exactly how

I know a lot of the modules on display were just mock-ups, but the
concept of such a modular system is making more sense to me now than
when the GRX was first announced.

2011-06-28 Thread Bob Sullivan
Godfrey,
You've got to learn to let things go.
You can't always be right, no matter what.
I'm calling you out on the Utube ads because you were so inflexible on
Photo.net ads.
Generally it takes me a second or less to dismiss the Photo.net pop-up ad.
Utube ads seem to be running for at least 3 seconds before they can be
dismissed.
Ads are a fact of life, learn to live with them in peace and harmony.

Unlikely. I've never participated in the PUG. Can never figure out
when or what to post and the sizing always seems so small, or at least
it did when last I looked. That was a while ago.

I prefer to view people's flickr posts, blogs or websites.
