Its probably the daily blast down 55th ave. Its 5% grade, so i hit around 35-40mph, and it has pot holes, that I don't always miss. I think the other problem is the cranking powe rI have. I've been bmx racing since I was 12 years old, and that sport is all about cranking power. I snap chains, i crush bottom brackets, and explode free hubs. > What are you doing to your poor wheels? It is against the wind both ways often! The george wind rips through the valley during the winter. During the day it blows east, at night it blows west, which puts me against it on the way in to work, and against it on the way home. > Yeah, right. What are you doing to your poor wheels? I'm hard on wheels (~250lbs and not a finesse rider) and I get at least 2-3 years out of a set of machine-built wheels. Well, I remember riding against the wind both ways once. 70 miles in a 35mph headwind is kind of tiring, IIRC. Naw, it wouldn't. I once commuted all winter in Detroit. Everyone knew me, I as the guy with icicles in his beard. My problem has been health, hills, and local helmet law. Not much I seem to be able to do about the first. I am going to regear the 3-speed for the second. And I resent the hell out of the third. I need to rebuild the wheels on the commuter which has no problem with hills, no they never broke, but over 15 years the spokes have stretched (I keep tight wheels) to the point where they come through the nipples. Yes the factory should have used 2mm shorter spokes but I imagine the automatic wheel building machine would have had problems with them. I am also going to put alloy rims on the 3-speed, so another spoking job. Then there is the junk Raleigh I want to do something with. I guess I will have enough to keep me busy for the winter. http://polyhead.net/coppermine/index.php?cat=8 My bmx bikes. Thinking about retiring the S&M bennett. Every tube on it has a dent, the rear triangle is a bit bent, the OG pitchfork that i rode with for years.. it didn't break but for years i had to run gobs of shims on one side to center the tire, as it turns out, the drop outs were welded on crooked. Why it took me 4 years to work that out, i'll never know. I also have a cummuter rig, 2003 gary fisher utopia with the silly fork removed and a kenesis unit off of a lemond put in its place. I do an 11 mile ride home from work every work night. Car free for the last 7 years now. > Polyhead said: > > No need to let snow stop you. Re: Old Honeywell Pentax Gear
That's not exactly true, when the bottom fell out of the film camera market I picked up most of the screw mount gear I wanted. I have a "classic" 35mm kit in screw mount, an SMCT 35mm f3.5, an SMCT 50 f1.4, and a SMCT 135 f2.5 with a Komura Telemor II 2x converter for extra reach.with two primary bodies a Spot F and a ESII (and a H1 as a meterless body just because). I don't have enough time to shoot my K mount equipment, let alone my m42 stuff. I feel guilty about that sometimes. So far I think Chuck has gotten some pretty good advice. Unless he has something really special,. he's better off selling the stuff on e-bay. graywolf wrote: > I can understand your feelings, you come top what claims to be a Pentax > camera > list and find no one interested in Pentax cameras. Chuck, No intent to offend you. A lot of us love the old screwmount gear. The lenses remind me more of the new premium, metal "Limited" lens line. Tom I'm not sure if this is a tounge in cheek response or your serious. Yes most of us here are shooting digital, and yes i made what should have been taken as a humorous response, but to say no one is interested in film cameras is absurd. Everyone here has or still has old film cameras somewhere in the closet. I still have ALL of my m42 cameras and glass. To insinuate that film shooters are"tolerated" is pure BS. I normally agree with 90% of what you post here, i have to majorly disagree with you on this subject., Sorry. Re: Old Honeywell Pentax Gear
A bit of silliness from Tom. But that's okay. In fact, many of us have Spotmatics. I have three and quite a few lenses as well. I just don't need another. And no, most of us don't shoot much film. And yes, many of the pics we take could have been taken with a cell phone. But so too many of the pics folks take with Spotmatics. They're all just photographs, nothing more, nothing less. Re: Old Honeywell Pentax Gear
Yes, I agree with Bob. Don't put it all up as one lot - you'll get a better total price individually. As to the price you can expect, it's difficult to say. The best idea is to do a bit of searching on ebay for the same or similar items and see what they go for. There's quite a bit of Spotmatic gear and Takumars there so it shouldn't take too long to get a realistic expectation.
