That's exactly why I had reservations about _cropping_ in my followup response to Ken's message. I am not that keen on extremely elongated images, unless the subject warrants that (such as a panorama). The scene was backlit, and I had trouble seeing and focusing, so I didn't compose it well. Before you've written this, I actually had thought the exposure was handled very well (and I still think that way). Thanks for looking, Igor, and for your helpful comments. I must, however, point out that Ephesus in in Turkey, not Greece. Oops! That shows my ignorance. I was in a rush, and didn't look up what and where that is. "Ephesus" sounded Greek to me (literally, literally!) So, having seen a bunch of your photos from Greece recently, I just assumed that it was from Greece. Although, now, having googled it, I confirmed that it _WAS_ a Greek city! So, the corrected statement should be: ... you've left Greece already, and so has Ephesus. :-) Cheers, Igor -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: PESO: Arch
Thanks, Igor. I can crop out some of the top, although that will mean either cropping the sides as well, which I do not want to do, or leaving the image a lot wider than it is high (which is not necessarily bad). The scene was backlit, and I had trouble seeing and focusing, so I didn't compose it well. (Also, my wife was already moving on and grumbling that I was spending too much time at that arch.) The image had a bluish tint, so I ignored it on my first go-around of my images from Ephesus. I was looking for something the other day, and ran across it again, and like the detain in the arch (and the Missing Piece), so I played with it and finally got something I like. I will play a bit more with the placement of the arch in the frame, to see what I can do. Thanks for looking, Igor, and for your helpful comments. I must, however, point out that Ephesus in in Turkey, not Greece. Bruce, IMHO this is not as strong as your other recent posts. Great elements are there but they are in competition with each other, competing for my attention. Isolate and simplify. Re: PESO - Arch
Bruce, A few years ago, I paid (dearly) for a guide who, as it turned out, didn't know the location of this spot. I didn't press it. Another example of my lack of persistence (wimpyness) in such things. Like your shot, but it appears sort of incomplete. It simply says "here it is" now bring your camera and go to work. Technically excellent. Re: PESO - Arch
Hi! There is a big portion of Monument Valley that you cannot go into without a guide and good 4 wheel drive for the sand. For this trip, I was able to arrange a private tour for our group in an air-conditioned 4-wheel drive van. We were able to start the tour in the early afternoon and end at sundown. It made it really nice because we could stop anytime we wanted for as long as we wanted to take pictures and got to see the part that is missed by many. It turns out that there are a bunch of arches in Monument Valley. Pentax *istD, DA 16-45/4, Handheld, polarizer ISO 400, 1/350 sec @ f/9.5 Converted from Raw using Capture One LE http://www.daytonphoto.com/PAW/monumentvalley_0354.htm Bruce, this one is slightly weaker than some of your previous PESO shots... At least to my eyes... You see, there is no clear point of reference on the shot. I feel almost like I am standing on top of some hill and I don't really see the ground beneath me, which make me feel dizzy... But then again I am afraid of heights... I tried to crop off the left, so that the path leading to the arch would start at bottom left corner... Now I am feeling better ;-)... Just a suggestion, nothing more. Boris
