Paul Shutter lag is not an issue, viewfinder lag is definitely one, especially because the LV feed reset can be in the 200ms range. With the G1 every second frame seemed to fire before I got the LV back to frame the shot. LVIL camera's are NOT suitable for fast action or continuous frame advance. If you shoot single-frame advance and the subject is not moving very fast the lag isn't much of an issue. -Adam -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Is it any greater problem than shutter lag is now? John, it sounds like you've never tried to capture any action with an EVF. I used a Nikon Coolpix 5700 for a few years in my work @ Ford. It was a very, very good camera for what I was mainly using it for - to capture static views of vehicles and parts, with a moveable LCD and great image quality. Initially I tried to capture some action shots - kids, birds etc. I never timed the delay between pushing the release and actually getting the image recorded but it was enough that in most cases the desired subject was almost out of the frame. I could never capture the image as I saw it when I pushed the release. You had to run it in a burst mode and hope one of the captured frame was useable. I actually acquired the Lumix 20mm 1.7 pancake to go with the E-P1. It's a very small package and carry everywhere camera. It's also wonderfully sharp. Pentax has a certain reputation for small cameras and I think this would appeal to there current market, especially given their experience with pancake lenses. I assumed I would hate composing on the LCD screen but adapted quickly. The E-P1 has become the camera I grab when needed and I would love to have a Pentax alternative. Some folks want FF, I was lured to the small body. I know some of you will disagree, and I ask you to please vent your anger in this thread :-) Cheers, --MILCserere There's zero chance of my buying any NX mount LVIL camera. M mount compatibility is a requirement for me and that's impossible with NX mount. Also an NX10-based camera, even with Pentax's PRIME engine, would still lag the competition for higher ISO IQ (although it would no doubt beat the current NX bodies) as the Samsung 14MP sensor simply lags state of the art by a noticeable amount at this point. If Pentax was to use another mount, I'd say using an M variant or E mount would be the best choices. They could easily do M mount with KA-style contacts to drive AF and in doing so get the sort of backwards compatibility that K mount also has and E mount already supports full aperture coupling for a KAF3-style mount (A mount is very close to KAF3 in basic design). I'd love to see weather sealing as a LVIL feature as well. m43 would be another option, but I'd expect Pentax to be better served by sticking to their current APS-C format rather than adding a third format to the mix. -Adam -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I REALLY want a Pentax MILC. My opinion: A Samsung NX10 with Pentax's image processing and menu system/features, plus weather-sealing, and a line of small WR primes would be very successful. The potential of an APS-C sensor in a small body like the NX10 with a bunch of pancake primes is enormous. I know some of you will disagree, and I ask you to please vent your anger in this thread :-) MILC looks a lot like MILF, which is a great acronym. As long as they don't drop real viewfinders I couldn't care less. The world is moving towards electronic viewfinders, and if I could get a little camera like that Panasonic thing that I had with me in Chicago with a compact lens set, I'd probably buy into it, if for no other reason than I like shiny things. William Robb I'd rather an EVF, which are much nicer to work with than APS-C OVF's for anything except shooting action. Note that Sony's got a couple EVF-equipped DSLR's about to be released (they use a pellix mirror to feed the phase detect AF system but otherwise use LV), I'm quite interested, a sub-$1000 DSLR that manual focuses as easily as a Panasonic G1 is a must-have to me. -Adam -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

The redesign of the 14/2.8 at the very last minute (in fact after the first run shipped) seems to have pushed the release of the 35/1.4 back. Actually, we may well see 2 different 35/1.4's at Photokina in K mount, the other being the long-rumoured Zeiss ZK version, which was leaked by Erwin Puts last fall. -Adam -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Pentax to Release Mirrorless Camera? The Answer Might Be YES
I've seen four distinct rumors combining Pentax and a non-SLR/interchangeable lens camera. The NX10 leaves me cold, but I'm open to a good new camera from Pentax. Meanwhile, I'm quite happy with what I've got at present, it's serving me well. -- Godfrey godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

So rich in detail! I also liked the rumors about Hoya selling Pentax. I think we should all chip in.
