Quoting Mark Cassino : Congrats on getting the Q - it is a ton of fun and kicks out pretty decent images as well. I bought a used Q Kit that had the standard prime, standard zoom, fisheye and toy telephoto. I added a K to Q converter right off the bat. The 5-15mm zoom has been my most used lens with the standard prime close behind. Both of those lenses just feel great and perform very well. For the type of shooting that I use the Q for the standard zoom is perfect. I was captivated by the fisheye but had iffy results manually focusing with it. When focused propertly (and I kept my fingers out of the field of view) it was great. I installed the new firmware a few weeks ago and focus peaking is a huge boon to me wrt to using this lens. I expect I'll use it a lot in the future and my problems focusing it will be greatly diminished. The lens that has seen virtually no use is the toy telephoto. I've tried it a few times and it works well. IMO it really should not be called a "toy" lens as that invokes lomography / holga etc (at least to me) and it is a straightforward good performing lens. It just lacks aperture control and autofocus and is not as nicely constructed as the standard lenses. The K to Q adapter is an excellent tool. I've been playing around with an M 50 f1.7 as my working telephoto, and with the updated firmware and image stabilization and focus peaking it works fine. The M 50 / adapter / Q is not at all awkward to me. I did several test shots with the Q and A* 200 f4 macro, D-FA 100mm and other K mount lenses. It worked well and is not terribly difficult to use. For macro the Q's DOF is great. My tests are here: http://www.markcassino.com/b2evolution/index.php/testing-the-pentax-q-and-k-mount-lenses I am eagerly awaiting using K mount macro prime with focus peaking - just haven't gotten out to do any work with it. I'll be adding the telephoto zoom to my kit soon as well, since with the normal zoom it would be a great travel kit. I will also probably opt for the Pentax K to Q adapter with built in leaf shutter to be able to better use flash. Have fun! I'll try! Thanks for that. I'd seen your article on 'Testing the Pentax Q' previously - it was one of the reasons I bit when the $200 bait was dangled. I've ordered the Konica-Q adapter to play with while I decide which K-Q adapter to get and I'll undoubtedly get the standard zoom as soon finances permit (through selling off a bit more of my collection of old cameras). A couple of batteries are also on the way. -- Cheers Brian ++ Brian Walters Western Sydney Australia http://lyons-ryan.org/southernlight/ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

PS: Forgot to add - get a couple spare batteries, as the Q chews through them pretty quickly. The lack of autofocus with the latter option is a concern, my eyesight not being what it was. I'm certainly interested to any experiences that Q owners might care to share. Re: Questions for the Cognes-Q-enti
The raynox 250 has a 43 mm thread on the camera side, the included variable adapter ring is 52-67 mm. You only need a 2 dollar 40.5 - 43 step-up ring from ebay. Also tried a simple 5 and 8 diopter close up lens on the 01 prime. Works fine, the image field of the raynox is less curved and sharper in the corners. Quoting Darren Addy : I would honestly try to content yourself with the standard prime while you get used to the camera and all you can do with it. You are gonna have some fun! The lens that most people seem to say is a LOT of fun with the Q is the fisheye. It is relatively inexpensive, so I plan on making that my 2nd lens purchased. A K-mount adapter is good if you are going to tripod mount stuff (like macro or super-telephoto). I would also make sure that you have the latest firmware that includes Focus-Peaking... that might make focusing easier on you. I expect a wide fast prime to be released by Pentax sometime in 2013 (it is on their Q lens road map). I would want that lens, once it is available. *Eventually* I would probably get a telephoto zoom, but with the Q that just isn't a big priority for me. Your mileage may vary. Quoting Toine : I have the Q kit with the standard prime and 5-15. the fisheye is arriving soon. The standard prime is my favorite lens I think it's a gem. You can find cheap non pentax hoods on ebay. The standard prime works fine with a raynox 250 macro. The 5-15 is very nice at 5-12 mm. at 15 mm it's not so good, no bad. Ebay also has lots of converters like a C-mount en K adapters. I need to make up my mind if I get the original K adapter with build in shutter or the new 15-45mm. Most likely I want the 15-45. A 50mm on a K adapter feels very large and no AF. Played a little with a 100mm macro on the Q. It's fun but very frustrating feels like hand holding a microscope. Thanks, guys. Installed the 1.10 firmware last night. I expect I'll have to get the standard zoom at least - my wife is already showing an interest in getting her hands on the camera... I also expect I'll need a K-mount adapter but I'll hold off on that until I see some comments on the Pentax version - $200 is a big premium over the third party adapters so I'll need to be sure the built in shutter is worth it for the sort of work I do with the camera. While I'm sorting that out, I'll almost certainly spend 30 bucks on the Fotodiox Konica-AR to Q adapter - that could be fun to try out with my old Hexanon 55 mm macro. Toine - how do you mount the Raynox lens on the standard prime? According to what I see on their web site it's designed for 52-67mm filter sizes.
