Re: Sigma Lens - Was which camera to buy?
Yes. With the 4-element Tamron 1.4X image iso not bad at center but becomes noticeably softer at the very edges (on the D), while using the Sigma 1.4X EX you get a very nice picture all over the frame (noticeably better than the one with the Tamron even at center). However, by using the Sigma converter you have to overexpose 1/3-1/2 stop to get a proper exposure. I haven't tried 2X converters. Sigma Lens - Was which camera to buy?
Speaking of Sigma lenses, has anyone owned and used the Sigma 24-70/2.8 or the 70-200/2.8? Thanks, Derek -- Original message -- From: Mark Roberts [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I owned one Sigma lens, the 17-35. I have the Sigma EX300/2.8 APO. Great build quality and optics. I'm sure the Pentax equivalent is better but it's also $1500 more expensive (the Sigma cost me about $2200). Compared to the Pentax FA* 80-200/2.8, on my D at 200mm the Sigma is a bit better at edges and a bit worse at center. Both are excellent and it's not easy to choose which one is above which one. I guess on 24x36mm the Sigma would win, since the Pentax goes down noticeably toward the edges even within APS format. Around 70-80mm, the Sigma is still excellent, but the FA* is undoubtably better (lower CA and higher res). I can second the 70-200/F2.8 EX (also non-DG). Got it as a bargain grade from KEH and have been very happy with it. I have only tested it with the Sigma 1.4xTC so I do not have much experience with the combo. On 3/8/06, Dario Bonazza [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I own the 70-200/2.8 EX (not DG) and it's a gem. Re: Sigma lens oddity
The Pentax 2x rear converter and Sigma 50mm 2.8 macro also give strange readings on the DS. The max aperture goes to 1.4 (guess that's why the converter is worth over $300 :) Although the displayed info is screwy the actual exposers seem OK and you can get really super close macro with this combination. You'd think if Sigma could make it work right with their A compatible lenses, they could get it right for their AF lenses as well. As you no doubt know, this TC does translate aperture setting to the effective aperture when coupled with an A or higher lens. Apparently this does not work so well with the new Sigmas. I don't know what that does for exposure /aperture settings - the other Pentax TC's do not convert aperture data to the effective aperture, and I've used them without problem in the past. - MCC - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mark Cassino Photography Kalamazoo, MI www.markcassino.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Original Message - From: Jostein [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: pentax-discuss@pdml.net Sent: Sunday, April 17, 2005 5:46 AM Subject: Sigma lens oddity A couple of days ago I experimented with the AF 1.7TC, the autofocus teleconverter, on the *istD. No, cause I have no Sigmas, but I am lead to believe that Sigma reverse-engineers the Pentax protocols (as opposed to licencing or sth) with known compatibility issues. Reportedly these have been addressed, but your email indicates (to me) that this may not be the case when it comes to the strange beast the AF T/C is. Just a guess, Kostas

Being from EX series I suspect this one will be even better. And it will be certainly better than DA 16-45 at f2.8 :-P Of course it won't have QSF though. Its construction is very similar to Sigma EX 24-60/2.8, so I suspect it would have price similar to DA 16-45 (about 400USD or Euro in EU) -- Best Regards Sylwek

Re: Advice: Sigma lens on *ist D
If it has an A position on the aperture ring it will work fine. If not it will not meter on the istD. However, going by apparent experiences of others at GFM it may auto adjust the ASA enough to give you proper exposures if you set it anywhere close to the correct aperture and f-stop (no guarantees on this though). I already own a Sigma 21-35mm f3.5-4.2 with 77mm filter size, and in a 'K-PR' mount (according to the sticker on the side of the box, I think it translates to 'K mount for Pentax and Ricoh'). It works well with my existing Pentax 35mm bodies (ZX-5, Super Program and K1000) but I suspect it won't be full-function compatible with the *ist D. Correct, or am I being overly pessimistic? Sigma lens
I visited a camera exhibition show two days ago. When I walked to the Sigma area, I have chance to play some of the high-end lenses. What impressed me came from two new products which not yet released in Hong Kong market. They are 135-300mm f2.8 HSM and 80-400mm f4.5-5.6 with IS function. If the 80-400 is available for KAF mount, it would be the first IS lens used with Pentax AF camera. It would be great if the IS function is also valid for Pentax manual body. The 135-300 is very heavy but the focusing speed appeared reasonably fast with EOS body. The f2.8 constant aperture is great for such tele zoom but uses 90mm front filter (if memory correct). Sigma now offers Pentax users some products which are not available in Pentax line (at least in near future). _ Weight Loss products, Herbal Viagra, and much more!http://www.VitaDepot.com _ Select your own custom email address for FREE! Re: Sigma Lens
Does anybody know if there is a compatablidy issue with a Sigma 24/2.8 Super wide angle II with PZ-1 or PZ-1P. I have an opportunity to pick one up very cheaply and I want it to work with my new to me Z-5 I had the MF version which was excellent optically - sharpness and colour. However, built quality and flare control were quite poor. regards, Alan Chan _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Super Program Sigma Lens
I have a Sigma 28-105mm/4-5.6 zoom with the same features. What I did discover is you will probably get the correct aperture at one focal length. In my case it occurs at 35mm. I am using the lens with my MZ-M. There was nothing in the literature that came withmy lens. steven Date: Fri, 25 May 2001 15:49:02 -0700From: "Richard S. Ross" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: SuperProgram Sigma lens (in)compatability?Hello everyone,I just picked up a Sigma 135-400/4-5.6 zoom and find that it does notgive correct aperture information in Program and Shutter Priority modes.Basically the camera does not know the minimum aperture of this lens. Anyone else have this problem? Is this the lens or my cameras fault?BTW It appears to stop down correctly, it is only the aperture readoutin the camera that is wrong. I still need to run a test role to verifythis.Richard- -
