Cotty,

I am gob-smacked!

Never did I imagine I would be listed in this thread. I humbly bow with
reddened face...

I will have to let my parents know that they did allright with the naming...

I reciprocate in saying that I have learned quite a few things from your
posts the least is not the fact that we need to get together. And to that
end, I am trying to line up a two-week trip to England probably in October.
I will let everyone know. I should be based in London, but I can see a trip
to Oxford and even sunny Brighton ;-)

Jumping into a future thread from this original post - I am getting a kick
out of the RV in Scotland...

Cheers!

Whose PDML posts have helped you?
So many! I've found I've got useful and interesting information dozens of
threads that most of the PDML regulars have contributed to.
Special mention has to go to Cotty though - because he knows his stuff,
expresses it well and most always in a cheerful or humorous way. I've found
that's a rare thing.

I do have a complaint though.
When I joined the list I had one camera/lens and was quite happy with it.
Now, less than two years later, I have ten lenses, three bodies, multiple
winders, flashes, tripods, filters, brolly's... most all on advice from the
list. I used to be happy with what I had, now I just need more more more.

I'd choose the Oscar role, if I had the choosing to do. But, what the
hell's a poppadom?

It's a round crispy thing made of chick peas and fried in oil and you eat
them in an Indian restaurant (spicy or plain) before the starters and
main course, but usually too many so that by the time poppadoms the
starters are finished you're too stuffed to eat the main course but
you've had some beer or wine and it smells delicious anyway so you stuff
yourself even more and regret it bitterly the next morning...

Famous quote from UK politico-humourous mag Private Eye editor Ian Hislop
upon losing a libel case: 'If that's justice, I am a banana'.

BTW, I take it back, you are pretty cool :-)

Oscar.

I think I've learned something from *everyone* on the list,
whether in response to my queries about gear or in general
discussions.

I would not wish to single out anyone in particular, nor a
small group of people. Why? For the simple reason that it
is usually *the discussion* that informs, not the individual
replies of individuals or of a clique (such things appear
not to exist on PDML, thank goodness!).

So thanks to y'all!

John

P. S.
I found when assembling a Pentax outfit was that there are
several resources, set up by PDML members, displaying shots
that supported the views posted on here. Now that's
*particularly* useful !

There have been many PDML members who have helped me a lot,
 mostly by
sharing their experience, ideas and, of course, their

stands out. He's no longer on the list but Bill Cornett gave me
extensive hand-holding to get me through my first

was so long ago that many people on the list might not recognize his
name but he was a good photographer and a real class act. I
 have saved

I'll kick it off with a safe nominee (Wm Robb) and a

Hi!

I generally second your opinion. Your list may be missing a person or
two, but generally it fits my opinion too.

I suppose William Robb would get my vote for that nomination too. But
then when it comes to body knowledge, Alan Chan is very strong in my

Anyway, I must admit that I learned a lot since I joined the crew -

Hey, Cotty,

Well, aint' that the truth! When I read the first post in this thread, I
thought, Wow, who could I mention? (I really said wow - it's true: I
really do talk like that...).

Every name I've seen so far (except of course mine - what the hell are you
guys thinking?) would be on my list, plus lots more. And that's the
problem. There are so many people that have so much knowledge to pass on
about Pentax, cameras, photography, nature versus nuture, the mind/body
question, political science, real science, philosophy, pretty much anything
and everything, that I simply couldn't narrow it down to one person who has
helped me the most. I've made many friends off-list, and in person (TOPDML),
which is something I never would have expected when I stumbled upon this
happy little crew a couple of years ago. It's been a great time.

So, upon Cotty's advice, I've gone to the fridge, and opened a bottle of
Amsterdam Natural Blond Lager (a local mini-brew). I am now raising my
glass: TO THE LIST - CHEERS!

regards,
frank
